I know, for I had to make such sounds when I took martial arts. But it's the WAY the dub actors make the noises that are what ultimately sound so...bad. And whenever a character turned his or her head, they HAD to make some kind of noise. Maybe they all had chronic neck pain from strenuous training. I don't know...

I hate Tien and Chaiotzu (spelling?)

No one else really, they just annoyed me Tien's old arrogance and ugly facial expressions. and Chaiotzu's self destruction in the Saiyan Saga.

But my favorite character has to be Yamcha, he is awesome in DB, kinda lame in DBZ but has that pimpin yellow suit later on, and I don't believe he is in GT at all but I believe thats for the best since they woulda screwed him over even more.

._. What's wrong with Chao-zu's explosion? Admittedly, it was ultimately futile, but it was something.

Anyway, Yamcha is in GT. He's in the group shots in the ending sequences, and, in the very last episode, he was shown fixing his car in the desert where Goku first met him.

I gotta say I like Tenshinhan. He has a lot of powerful attacks that no other human could do. Yamcha got killed by a sabamen (spelling?)
GT ending sucked Yamcha deserved more than that and Tenshinhan and Chauzo comming out of a waterfall, still training. I think GT just screws over all DB charecters with Chi-Chi Bulma and Goku as exceptions. :(

At my Tae Kwon Do school, nobody does yells. The most you'll hear is our breath hissing out on the impact or move. And trust me, it doesn't make our technique any less powerful So, "kiais" aren't as important as one might think in martial arts.

I never understood the concept of shouting with every single move. Isn't it all about controlling your breating? How can you control your breathing when moving quickly if you're emptying your lungs with each shout?

Well with Karate they are important, so it might depend on whichever style you use.

Some martial arts stress that it's important, mine doesn't. We believe in just letting our breath out controlled and fast as we make the move or break something. Proper release of the breath and correct timing is more important to us. Of course a lot of new students have asked me how come they aren't hearing all the shouts and grunts at our school that they'd been expecting to hear. Sometimes I think it can definitely be overdone and just be a stupid "machismo" thing, and I don't just mean guys only with that term. I've seen a good number of women in martial arts who acted all tough "machismo" too. I hate martial arts practioners that are like that. It seems the strutting around and giving a tough "air" is more important than the techniques themselves. :? But I think the "kiais" have their place if they help a person focus better and draw up that little extra bit of power they need. 8)

I agree with ya Jersey, about technique being more important than acting macho, but that actually plays its own part. War fare and fighting is based on a certain amount of deception, and to that extent intimidation. A properly delivered blow with a shout can not only intimidate your opponent(s), but also pump you up.

Yes I agree with you. But silence can work too. It can give an air of "calmness" to your persona and make the opponent think you are in complete control and aren't flustered easily and that you have no fear. That can scare them too.

Yup pretty much! I took some Karate,Kenpo and Tae Kwan Doe and its all about controlling your breathing, its basically so you can conserve your energy regaining your breath quickly, instead of expending yourself and having to pull back and catch your breath. Its pretty much a technique you need to learn to master your body.

I think Kendo school's have you do the same thing, my local community college has a Kendo class and I was thinking of signing up. I love these martial art classes!

BTW, I think it is spelled "Kihei" I'm not too sure though. Thats how its spelled in Rurouni Kenshin though

No. It's "kiai". That's just wrong in Kenshin as far as I'm concerned.

Don't forget that a well-timed shout or grunt can scare off some people before the fight even begins. That's something Bruce Lee once said.
