Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread
Because Granola said the Saiyans were destroyed not long after they conquered his planet, some have speculated it was the last planet they conquered. Minus shows us the last planet they conquered:
Doesn't mean they couldn't have taken Granola's planet earlier that week, but it wasn't the last.

Well to be fair, as we have seen from Planet Yadrat two very different looking species can live on the same planet. Who’s to say those creatures in the Manga panels aren’t Cerealian Creatures. Its not the craziest idea in the franchise at this point.batistabus wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 1:43 pm Because Granola said the Saiyans were destroyed not long after they conquered his planet, some have speculated it was the last planet they conquered. So to sum it up; Granolah is an avenger of his race against Freeza and the Saiyans [Goku and Vegeta]. He needs more power to accomplish such a feat. So he will grow; being birthed as the strongest, giving Goku and Vegeta their "strongest" enemy story plot.
Alright, I'm down.

I really wonder if Universe 6 is going to be involved in this arc. Freeza knows it exists, there the Cerealians probably survived (since Universe 6 Saiyans are good and Frost isn't a genocidal maniac like Freeza), there's a bunch more Saiyans to take revenge on in there and the Oracle Fish did prophesize the rise of the strongest warrior in Universe 7 only. Probably not, though.

Definitely possible. There's enough different to suggest that's not the case, but that could be cool. But if we assume it's a different planet, we also have the idea that Freeza is using the Saiyans to conquer a bunch of worlds quickly before he gets rid of them, which is delightfully conniving. If they were conquering worlds more frequently than usual, that could be part of what tips off Bardock into suspecting something's up.DiscountDabi wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 3:44 pmWell to be fair, as we have seen from Planet Yadrat two very different looking species can live on the same planet. I could see the story resolving with Granola living with the Cerealians in Universe 6. I wonder what favor they'd have to offer Whis to pull that off, unless they earn it some other way.Draconic wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 8:32 pm I really wonder if Universe 6 is going to be involved in this arc. I’m getting serious Garou vibes from Granolah. I suspect we will follow along with him while he grows stronger to beat Frieza before he actually meets Goku and Vegeta Proper.

Man, I don't even know why they created the other universes concept, DBH has done far more with the other universes that the main series did. Hell even Dragon Ball Legends be involving otherworldly characters.
This arc is going is to take two years to be finished like the Moro arc. And I will be surprised if anybody cares about any of the villains of this arc besides Granola, hell just look at the Saganbo gang, first hype then nobody cared about them, Saganboo is stronger than Gohan and 17 working together and nobody cares about him at all. I am almost 90% positive the Heata gang is going to end up the same.
The next arc will most likely take place in U7 and only Goku and Vegeta will do anything to. Buu was the only character last arc to show anything new and it shows, Goku, Vegeta, Buu were the only Z fighters to get medals last arc highlights it lol.

Granola's design looks like a pain to draw but I'm looking forward to seeing more of him and his story. I do wonder who the main enemy of the arc is going to be, though, because I don't foresee Granola being anything more than a new enemy-turned-ally.
Also, hope he and Merus become boyfriends.

It's a wonder how the guy who designed Moro, Merus, the Galactic Prisoners, 7-3 Moro and the Heeters also designed Granola.
He showed potential with the Gods of Destruction, even though only one is truly great (Liquir), but Granola is on another level.

Granola is great, and really looks like a Toriyama design. However, I feel his design is too similar to Kintoki, a Toriyama one shot manga.Draconic wrote: Mon Jan 25, 2021 4:09 pm It's a wonder how the guy who designed Moro, Merus, the Galactic Prisoners, 7-3 Moro and the Heeters also designed Granola.

I'm sure Granolah himself is going to be pretty good.
And that is a good point, him living with his people does seem like a good end to this arc or him getting them back.

It really is a shame that this isn't an official figure because I would buy this in a heartbeat.

I wasn't sure about Granola's design at first, but he's one of those characters that definitely looks far better in colour! I absolutely love the shades of green on his design, especially his hair, it's very soothing to look at. Some characters who received official colour schemes after they debuted in black-and-white, I imagined completely differently (i.e. most of the Galactic Patrol prisoners; I refuse to accept that OG73-I is that shade of teal), but Granola just looks perfect. He definitely seems to be more of an underdog anti-hero rather than an all-out villain, though the Oracle Fish's prophecy that hints towards him taking the throne as Universe 7's top dog seems promising (though as always, best not to make premature assumptions). I liked Merus as well but some aspects of his characterisation felt underbaked, namely his relationship with Goku not having quite the right amount of chemistry. If Granola goes in a similar direction as a supporting player, I hope this is one thing Toyotaro improves upon.
There's been some rather confusing things thrown around in this thread lately, namely this resurgence in hope that Super Saiyan 4 will make a return... I have no idea where this came from or why everybody's so into it all of a sudden.

Yes, having random characters from other universes show up to fight in pointless battles is very thought-intensive and shows how creative these writers are!DevilKing99 wrote: Mon Jan 25, 2021 2:39 pm Man, I don't even know why they created the other universes concept, DBH has done far more with the other universes that the main series did.
That's obvious sarcasm, if you couldn't tell.
This is Dragonball 101. At least Akira Toriyama's Dragonball. He introduces concepts, uses them for an arc and then ditches them to do something else. It's why Dragonball is never repetitive and is always doing something different. Super's already used characters from other universes and that's been the crux of the 3 first real arcs of Super.
This is them doing something different.

I acknowledged this, but like I said, his modern characterization leans far more into his role as the smart fella of the group than the original series did. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Piccolo's skill as a strategist was never pointed out in-universe before the modern material.Cipher wrote: Fri Jan 22, 2021 12:38 amPiccolo’s always been that way. Even in Super, his moments in the spotlight include barely managing to cause Frost some exertion and being rung out by a bug in a semi-comedy beat.Yuji wrote: Thu Jan 21, 2021 6:38 pm On the topic of Piccolo, if Toyotarou chooses to integrate the character into this story, I hope he improves his character writing. Piccolo felt distinctly "off" last arc: being outsmarted by the Macareni gang, caught off-guard by OG73-I after being warned by Jaco a few minutes prior, and his speech characterizing Vegeta. While Piccolo in the original series always was hilariously a bit of a klutz and numb-skull, all of this still feels at odds with his modern characterization, which has leaned farther into his title as a "tactician" (as displaced as it may be).
Piccolo is destined to always deliver weird, baffling bits of exposition and screw up in fights, only for the universe of the series and fans to proclaim him a genius anyway. That’s why we love him; that’s who he is.
(But yeah—I genuinely only think the Piccolo of the Moro arc feels off if you choose to misremember everything else Piccolo has ever actually said or done.
Even speechifying about other characters’ personalities and moralities (positive or negative) isn’t new. He does both in the Boo arc. Along with ... delivering weird, baffling exposition. And that’s his smartest arc!)
Either way, I feel like Toyoatou's writing has always been iffy on Piccolo. His line in the U6 arc referring to himself as "Piccolo Daimao" seems distinctly at odds with post-God fusion Piccolo's personality. I'm aware that the intent is to give a powerful one liner and curb the previously placed doubts about Piccolo's performance in the match against Frost, but he could have said something much more adequate instead: calling attention to his identity as the nameless Namekian, son of Katats; or his status as a being containing both God and demon. While I wouldn't call it character regression necessarily, it is a bit odd he would just forget he's part God too.

Definitely not the typical DB Design.. He feels more like a character from Dragon Quest or Chrono Trigger.
It's not too late. One day, it will be.
