how could a movie few ever saw kill a franchise to that point had basically been over? I'm guessing the only people who have actually seen the film are already fans of Dragon Ball to begin with.

If anything, DBE probably catalyzed the revival of the franchise, if the urban legend about Toriyama being dissatisfied with the film thus subsequently getting back into DB is true.

It's not an urban legend - Toriyama straight up said it at a Q&A. He said Fox didn't listen to any of his suggestions and that got him pssed enough to work on BoG.

Afaik that isn’t true. I mean I think Toriyama did get more involved because of his lack of creative involvement in DBE but a revival was going to happen regardless. Yo Son Goku and His Friends Return came out a year before DBE. Kai was probably in preproduction before DBE came out. Pretty sure Battle of Gods was planned by Toei back when the setting was Kuririn and 18’s wedding and Beerus was named Virus and Super Saiyan God had a cape and then Toriyama got involved to make it more Toriyama’s Dragon Ball and less Toei’s Dragon Ball

God the wedding would be neat tho untoriyama esque but for Goku to batter his own friends easily to just worf effect em to show off god when he's already stronger than everyone except Gotenks and Gohan anyway.... And a magically appearing Cape and form that looks like SS4 yuck

Everything else about the idea sucks. I wonder why they never did reuse any of those concepts or designs tho. They did allude to Beerus mind control in the filler episode with monaka but that was it.

Has this been officially confirmed anywhere? I understand Disney has the rights to it now and it makes sense that they would put it on Disney+ but I haven't heard anything concrete. It's actually steaming on Starz right now so I wonder how long that will last? If it is coming to Disney+, I say bring it on!

It's only confirmed for regions getting the STAR channel (not to be confused with Starz) on the app later this month, which doesn't include the US. Basically a bunch of 20th Century Fox titles are getting put up, DBE included. I'm not sure if other studios' titles will be put up as well, though.
