What does the Z stand for?
I know the Z only exists in the anime, not the manga. But what does it mean?

It was just Toei's way of dividing the series when they didn't have to.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

I've heard it means "Zeta", but yeah, it doesn't really matter. Just a way of saying "Dragonball 2".

Yeah, pretty much. Here's a link to a rather, IMHO, authoritative site.Thanos6 wrote:I don't think it "stands" for anything, just as a symbol that the series was going to end fairly soon. (That's what I've heard, anyway)
Yeah, that worked out well, huh?

I also think it was mentioned in a podcast, but I can't remember which one.

This is from page 67 of the tenth daizenshuu, TV Animation Part 3:
What is Toriyama-sensei's desire hidden in the “Z”?
"Dragon Ball” ended on April 19th, 1989, and the following week on April 26th, “Dragon Ball Z” began in the same timeslot. The “Z” is actually Toriyama-sensei's pun on the name of a certain energy drink, and signifies multiplying power!! Or so you've read up until now and thought “that makes sense”, but you're still too naive. In fact, it seems that the truth is that sensei simply added it on because he thought it sounded good. Saying that it signified “ultimate” or things like that were actually thought of afterwards.
[caption to a picture of Gohan from Z's beginning] Apart from “Z”, there were plans for many other titles like “Dragon Ball: Gohan's Great Adventure”, “New Dragon Ball”, “Dragon Ball 2”, “Dragon Ball Wonder Boy”, and “Dragon Ball 90”
Kanzenshuu: Is that place still around?

I always thought it could be because the Z kind of looks like a 2.
Is it true that GT stands for Grand Tour?

Thankyou
I know there is no plans, but I still cling onto the hope that maybe... Just maybe, they may have a new series one day
Cmon Toriyama! Pretty Please!

Heh, sounds like I had it reversed there, eh? Thanks for the clear-up, though.Rocketman wrote:Ah, "Zeta" means "Z". It's the name of the Greek letter that migrated to the Latin alphabet as "Z".Saiyavenger2941 wrote:I've heard it means "Zeta", but yeah, it doesn't really matter.
Exactly, as it's been mentioned several-a-time in this thread.Nick wrote:I always thought it was a way of saying that this second series is when Goku was an adult.

The Reminds me, is Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam just called Z Gundam in Japan?Rocketman wrote:Ah, "Zeta" means "Z". It's the name of the Greek letter that migrated to the Latin alphabet as "Z".Saiyavenger2941 wrote:I've heard it means "Zeta", but yeah, it doesn't really matter.
I've heard it as Zetto (Z) and Zeta in the original Japanese, and I could never decide.
GT doesn't mean Grand tour does it? Or is it something like Nintendo DS, doesn't mean anything?

Developers' System is the most official, but it still stands for many things. Some games have their own meanings like Deadly Silence.Rocketman wrote:DS = Dual Screen. The Time Traveller wrote: GT doesn't mean Grand tour does it? Or is it something like Nintendo DS, doesn't mean anything?
And yes, GT does mean "Grand Tour".
