Abilities never fully explored...
So I'm sitting here, enjoying my night off and I decide to watch some Namek saga stuff.
Goku arrives on Namek, surprises the HFIL out of everyone, and Kuririn feels the need to explain all that has gone on in Goku's absence. Goku instead places his hand on Kuririn's shiny noggin and reads everything important there is to know, ala Grand Elder.
Why do we never see this again? To find out about how Gohan defeated Garlic (I know, filler), get to know his new son Goten, or any other reason to use said ability that I can't think of at the moment?
Ginyu's body change is another one I'd like to get into. As we know, Ginyu changes bodies with people so that he can become stronger and stronger; has he always known this technique or was it recently discovered? If he has had for quite sometime, do we know if the purple, horned man known as Commander Ginyu to be the original body of said character?
Thoughts?

It always seemed like Toriyama added that in just so he wouldn't have to draw a whole load of panels explaining what we had already seen. But doesn't Goku sort of use this technique again in the Android saga, when he sees all that has been happening through his dreams.Haseowolf wrote:So I'm sitting here, enjoying my night off and I decide to watch some Namek saga stuff.

His dream isn't exactly showing him what has happened, just what his brain is interpreting with his heart condition (#17 peircing his heart as soon as he gets his heart ache).
Like when you have a dream and something very specific happens to you in it, like your arm is broken. Then you wake up and your arm is actually hurting because you lay on it funny.
It just so happens Akira forgot that Goku hasn't even seen #17, #18 or even that they were travelling in a van. I'm not even sure it is canon, unless someone with the manga at hand could find it.
And I don't even remember hearing it, but I think that it isn't Ginyu's original body.

I wasn't talking about the dream where the androids kill everyone. I meant after he woke woke. In the dub (yes, I know, the dub
) after Goku has recovered from the heart virus he says "In my dreams I could see what was going on, we're in a lot of trouble". He also knows that Vegeta wants to ascend beyond a SSj. Does he say that in the manga?

None of Goku's dream is actually shown in the manga. He just wakes up and says that he could hear what everyone was saying and knows what's gone on.Vegeta Jr wrote:It just so happens Akira forgot that Goku hasn't even seen #17, #18 or even that they were travelling in a van. According to Daizenshuu 4's page on the unique abilities of invidual Saiyans, Goku's ability to telepathically talk to Gohan during the fight with Vegeta, to read Kuririn's mind on Planet Namek, and his dream in the Android arc are all different manifestions of the same basic physic ability, which is a result of Goku training his spirit.
With Ginyu, the fact that Jheeze doesn't say anything like "Oh, he's trying out his new technique" does imply that Ginyu has body-switched before, but other than that it is left kind of vague in the manga. Daizenshuu 7's bio of Ginyu says that few people know his true form, due to him switching bodies so much.
Kanzenshuu: Is that place still around?

If memory serves, Roshi did mind reading on Namu back in the day, and that was just by standing near him. So fanboy explanation can be Goku extrapolated it from Roshi's teachings.
Then, I think filler only, Goku does it to Fat Buu when inside Super. I think Vegeta does too, inexplicably. Although I guess fanboy explanation there can be Vegeta figured out how to do it after fusing or something like that.

Toriyama's notorious for injecting gag comedy even in the most serious situations. Most of the stuff that is introduced as serious earlier becomes a literal joke later on.
I also never liked the part of Goku reading Kuririn's mind.

Most obvious plot device to move the story along ever.TheGreatness25 wrote:By the way, I think that Goku putting his hand on Krillin's head and reading his thoughts was the worst crap in the entire series. Made Goku look more spiritual than he should've been.

Somebody should make a list of all the "lost techniques" from the series, just for the hell of it. It should include techniques that were either used only once by a single character who never used them ever again, or techniques that were used frequently in the past, but never seen again in the later episodes. Anyone up for it?

I think it was a bit more than a simple plot device. It always seemed to me like Toriyama was hammering in the idea of how super bad ass Goku is now (now being after his training in space and landing on Namek). And the ability was simply forgotten by Toriyama as time went on. It isn't like Goku doesn't do crazy, unexplainable shit all the time.Sonofdex wrote:"Please allow me to place my hand on your head in an attempt to understand what has been going on up until this point so we do not waste several panels explaining it."NeptuneKai wrote:Most obvious plot device to move the story along ever.TheGreatness25 wrote:By the way, I think that Goku putting his hand on Krillin's head and reading his thoughts was the worst crap in the entire series. Also, my most lamented lost attack is Tenshinhan's Volley Ball Fist. I would've loved to have seen him bust that out against Daimao or Nappa.
Come to think of it, Tenshinhan had a lot of cool techniques that he only used once or twice.

Obviously I was joking. . .Rocketman wrote:It requires him to knock the enemy around.
