The "revival" of Dragon Ball has been going on since 2013, when will it end?

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

I disagree about the 2013 thing. for one KAI started in 09. for 2, even after the anime stopped airing in the west(and even japan for that matter) video games kept the series alive and making money. The gravy train never really ended, they kept making new db media since the 80s pretty much constantly. The modern anime and manga will probably end in a few years, but who is to say that there wont be more or spin offs after that? and we all know the games wont be stopping.

dragon ball has become a modern media cash cow, i dont know if it will be allowed to end honestly

Doesnt nozawa have an understudy ready to go in case she dies already? coulda sworn i saw that somewhere. and toriyama, well his successor is already working on the manga

I wonder if it's possible for a thread to exist discussing modern Dragon Ball without people who seem to have a fetish for shitting on Super swarming in to do just that? Probably not..

I think either it will continue on beyond Toriyama through Toyotaro or just unofficially end at a point where everyone goes, "oh, I guess there isn't going to be anything else!" but I don't quite see that happening any time soon. As emotional as it was, I don't think GT's conclusion really fits the series. I think we're at the point where Toriyama wants to just be able to jump back in and squeeze just another storyline somewhere. If not through his own design, perhaps there's pressure by the powers that be to keep it that way so new stories can always be made in the future. That was my read on the end of Super and the Broly movie didn't even hint at any sort of finality whatsoever. I'm quite interested to see where the new film goes obviously, in terms of pushing the story forward, whether it relates at all to the ongoing manga, and what its ending hints at in terms of the future. One of my quirks is that my interest in the series is evergreen (for over twenty years at this point) and I would probably continue watching and enjoying to some degree new episodes if they were made indefinitely, so obviously my hope is that it leads into another series of Super. Like many here I lived through the dark ages between the end of GT and Battle of Gods, wishing to return to that time period seems crazy to me. If you "think it should have ended after X arc", you are welcome to not watch any more new material and the rest of us can enjoy it. It's a win/win for everybody.

To answer the thread's question though, it will end once the net financial gain is not worth continuation.

I've heard that period between GT and BoG called the "dark ages" and "drought" but I don't know if that's really accurate since that implies the series was supposed to return and we've been waiting since then. This is a revival rather which only happen years after a series is over. Since the Tarble special in 2008, every storyline has taken place between the Buu saga and EoZ including the four or five arcs in Heroes. That's like 14 or 15 arcs taking place within a midquel before the original ending.

I'm not against that or anything and I think it's better than most revivals that ignore the original series was over and continue after its ending. I'm not sure if any revival in history that has done that has ever been considered having a better ending than the original. I'm more comfortable with what DBS is doing since it doesn't really need an ending and only needs to transition to EoZ when Toriyama decides to end it. It could be a while before that happens but I like believing there's an ending in mind at least.

Never.

Especially considering the big wigs are considerably more wise about what to do with the franchise and now know that the market in the west is insanely profitable. It also helps to understand that the online-western fandom is an insignificant fraction of DB's true fanbase.
