Who exactly is Arale?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

LMAO
I don't think anyone that Mr. Toriyama made is normal. Arale is an android that starred in Dr.Slump, a gag manga that was made way before Dragonball. She made a cameo later on in Dragonball during the General Blue saga.

Well, she was the STAR!

She appears as a poster in one of the Z movies too in Gohan's room, I can't remember which one.

That'd be movie 4, I wonder if there's any more of those kind of homages in other movies.

Yea, you think Dragon Ball is weird with the dinosaurs and flying cars, just check out Dr. Slump. The sun talks and the coils of poo have eyes and a mouth sometimes.

She hides all over the Dragonball anime, her picture was in a frame in Bulma's capsule house. She also made a very brief appearance when Muten Roshi was watching the ladies work out when Goku went to him for some training. She’s basically the Pandaman of the Dragonball universe.

In DBZ movie 8, when Kame-sennin is shifting through different masks when "confronting" Broli, one of them is an Arale mask.

Not a movie, but the mask Grandpa Gohn wears during the Baba arc is the same mask that one of the classmates of Arale's wears.

I also remember in the second Dr.Slump series, Arale is in some room and I guess she birngs Volume 42 of DragonBall to life. Goku and Kid Boo come out and begin fighting. That's all I remember.

I tend to think of the show Dr.Slump as a kind of reason why all the drug propaganda I push is proabably wrong. In a nation like Japan you have very little to no marijuana* use or stuff like peyotl* (Peyote), LSD, mushrooms* (chichinanacatl) which are part of life for many of the idiginous peoples of the world. It was mostly fear and a strong sense of superstition that motivated the Conquistadores of Mexico to ban these drugs. That is with the notable exception of LSD, a modern chemical which is very harmful. The drug is what I think of when I think of Dr.Slump. Lots of colors and bizzare images that would only make sense to a person who is tripping. Traditional drugs of the psychotropic variety are not as harmful and produce different effects. The effect of the more traditional drugs are more spiritual and with great effect to sensing Dios. The proud Mexica warriors did have brutal sacrifices in honor of the Gods (teotl) but this pales in comparison to modern times. You (The USA) may not offer sacrifices of human hearts to gods of the sun, war and other objects and phenomenon. YOu send your young men to die in a foreign country for a cause that is laughable in the lightest and a holucaust and a blood bath in the worst. Even the so called war on drugs is not founded on science any more than the Crusades were founded or the fear of the Conquistadores. So yeah , as you can tell I love Dr. Slump and all this will probably go over your head so...back to topic. I don't really like it and I think that it is a waste of precious time. We do not have much time left for such simple things as Dragonball or videogames. Forget I even said anything, I am probably rambling again.

...

Dr. Slump really is a flimsy pretext for an anti-USA pro-drug rant.
Seriously dude, get a blog or something..

Anyway, I personally don't know much about Dr. Slump, and have never bothered picking up a volume of the manga, mostly because I'm yet to do that with Dragonball, but no doubt when I'm thirsting for more of Toriyama's stuff I'll end up splurging on it.

I love Dr. Slump. One of my favorite manga. It's so silly and weird, I love it. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes early Dragon Ball or Neko Majin Z. Also, Goku and Arale Vs. Tao in DB movie 3 is one of the most entertaining battles in the series. (It rocks in the dub too. That's real.)

I'd disagree with that as in that dub she wasn't that much like her character. She's truer in the dub of the crossover eps of DB though, despite mispronouncing her name, though I admit I did that too, only differently.

"Splurging" is US slang for "to spend money on something, especially a pure entertainment item".

Yup. It's my favorite DB/Z/GT movie/special/etc, the third Dragon Ball one. I like all four DB movies more than most of the DBZ ones, even if they are just repackaged stories from the manga. And I also have a special place for the movie in my heart, as it was my first exposure to some of my favorite Dragon Ball characters - Tao Pai Pai, Bora and Upa, and of course (back on topic) Arale.

I guess it's slang for something else in England...

I've never had any exposure to the Dragonball Anime, just Z. For some reason, this makes me want to get it now. I guess I've been missing out.
