We shouldnt take Toriyama's words as gospel, given his memory and how his depicted feats clash with his "words of god"

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

I think it's more likely that Toriyama was just playing favorites. He considers Kuririn a main character, so if Tenshinhan is MIA then Yamcha will start talking about how Kuririn is the strongest Earthling. I doubt that would have flew had Tenshinhan been around.

If they actually had a serious fight between Krillin and Tenshinhan at this point in the story, I wouldn't discount the possibility of Krillin winning. It could go either way TBH.

I wish this fandom didnt treat Dragon Ball like comics aka think Dragon Ball is theirs and not just belongs to ONE author who has FULL rights on how he writes his story and characters. Also he's a writer who only hoped to finish each week's issue at one time. He cant be expected to worship his own 20 year old work and remember and learn by heart every single name and numbers written in some FANWRITTEN databook and some FAWRITTEN anime series made to milk money from his work.

Who has to live with that similar to how he wanted to make Freeza live with the fact he'd been beaten by what he considered trash, and have to live with that shame? Goku.
Freeza got the perfect revenge.

That's possible. Going by their last given power levels, the difference between them was pretty minor so Tien would likely still win with his Kikoho. It was only a video game but DBZ Kakarot has Tien stronger than Krillin in the Cell saga so maybe whoever came up with those numbers also assumed Tien wasn't fully human.

No... no, it really isn't.

Funny how Toriyama's memory or knowledge of the series rarely ever gets called into question outside of the context of "strength-related trivia I don't like."

Like, omigawsh, who is going to stop someone from ignoring something said in Chapter #69 of the original comic thingy?

We shouldn't, like, take anything as gospel because, like, there isn't, like, any way to enforce anything.

Krillin being stronger than Tien does seem odd from a narrative standpoint. Tien was always shown to be this super dedicated guy who put training before everything, while Krillin was initially in it to get girls, slacked off during times of peace, and ultimately settled down to become a family man.

You could make the argument that Tien was just as dedicated as Goku, with both going as far as sacrificing their social lives for martial arts. Had Tien been born a Saiyan he'd be right up there with the best of them.

Tien is also shown to be braver, charging in head first against Nappa with only 1 arm, and jumping in to fight the Androids while Krillin stood by too afraid to act.

This is my main issue with the assertion of Krillin > Tien. If it wasn’t for the possibility that Tien is not pure Earthling because his grandpa was a tricloptic alien, it would have made him look like an utter joke. All that training to be weaker than a dwarfed failed-monk? Get outta here...

Exactly. It's like saying Ken from Street Fighter is stronger than Ryu, even though the former is a family man while the latter lives to fight.

It is weird that no matter how much Tien trains, there is no statement of him surpassing Krillin. However no matter how much Krillin stopped training since the Cell Game his powers isn't stated to have gone down.

However when Buu Saga Gohan stopped training his powers went down, while Vegeta continued training he was able to surpass Buu Saga Gohan without getting possessed.

In BoG Vegeta was able to surpass Ultimate Gohan by training.

"We shouldnt take Toriyama's words as gospel, given his memory and how his depicted feats clash with his "words of god"".

We should, because it's his work and he can do whatever he wants with it. He said many, many stupid things and only few good things, but we as fans have to agree with them, it doesn't matter if we like them or not. We can complain (I do it a lot in DBS thread, because I find it to be extremally bad) but at the end of the day, our (fans) word can not change a thing and means absolutly nothing.

There's also the fact that Tien actually was much stronger early on, consistently doing better in tournaments than Krillin. Krillin did get the Guru unlock on Namek, but Tien trained with King Kai for much longer than even Goku. Tien was also one of the ones who wanted to fight the Androids from the getgo, while Krillin was clearly hesitant to go along with it.

Things would be so much easier if fans realized that at the end of the day, they're only customers. Spectators to another person's imagination.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

Funny how Toriyama's memory or knowledge of the series rarely ever gets called into question outside of the context of "strength-related trivia I don't like."
It still does get called into question, with an example being when he admitted how he forgot about the character of Launch, and her absence from the gang was a question mark throughout pretty much all of Z.
