This is something I just noticed and I wonder what else they could have censored or what they will censor since this dub is still ongoing.

Interesting! The edits on Kale and Yurin aren't bad, but Caulifla is really obvious lol.
Re: The Arabic version of DBS is putting extra clothes on female characters
LMAO.
And before anyone will run to warn/block me for laughing at muslims, I will state that I'm partially Arabian, descending from Pre-islamic Arabs. But I gotta give them some credit for cover-animating the whole sequences.

TIL there is an Arabic DBS dub and that it censors revealed female skin…
I imagine the dialogue doesn’t sound like a medieval Arabic poem now, right?

That's pretty neat! Does anyone know if the Arabic dub has been/will be released on home video, and if any such release would contain these edits? I'm kind of interested in tracking down this version of the show.
Re: The Arabic version of DBS is putting extra clothes on female characters
I don’t even know what to say besides I find this deeply disturbing.
Re: The Arabic version of DBS is putting extra clothes on female characters
Respectfully, why would anyone block or warn you for speaking your mind? That kind of mentality is what got the arabs in this mess to begin with. No one dares argue against it. This censoring is absurd and people have all the right to be embarrased about it. And you're not "laughing at muslims", you are expressing your incredulity at the way they manage this whole women body stuff, which is completely obsolete, outdated, and just plain wrong.Geraldo wrote: Wed Dec 07, 2022 4:34 am LMAO.And before anyone will run to warn/block me for laughing at muslims, I will state that I'm partially Arabian, descending from Pre-islamic Arabs. Disturning that woman are sligthly more clothed? Like these edits are nothing agregious.Aim wrote: Thu Dec 08, 2022 12:49 am I don’t even know what to say besides I find this deeply disturbing.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.
Re: The Arabic version of DBS is putting extra clothes on female characters
Slightly more clothing? Give me a break. It’s disturbing that a country with men who are one of the most frequent viewers of porn are the ones who are trying to cover up women’s bodies in an anime show.Neo-Makaiōshin wrote: Thu Dec 08, 2022 10:43 amDisturning that woman are sligthly more clothed? Yes, this is kind of censorship is standard in every production that Studio Venus (the entity in question that dubs Dragon Ball, among many other popular anime such as My Hero Academia, Digimon, Hunter x Hunter) localizes. The company is based out of Syria, and is notorious for editing anime in ways that allow it to be acceptable for Muslim audiences, particularly children. Any female character that exposes skin will have it digitally painted over, as this is viewed as offensive to many in Muslim communities in the Middle East.
From what I've seen, their censorship has relaxed somewhat in the latest crop of shows they've put out over the past few years, including Super. In the past, they used to do censor the Oozaru transformations and Digi-volving, as it displayed evolution in a way that conflicted with Muslim beliefs on the subject. Though I haven't seen them censor something like that in a quite a while. I will say that crosses, or cross-like images are still censored though.

Well, at least they didn't digitally alter the body dimensions of female characters to be smaller like the Chinese dub of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid did. The vast majority of gags involving boobs either ended up not making sense or being cut in jarring ways.

I wonder how they treat the dragons and deities, then.wjbraden wrote: Thu Dec 08, 2022 8:53 pm From what I've seen, their censorship has relaxed somewhat in the latest crop of shows they've put out over the past few years, including Super. Re: The Arabic version of DBS is putting extra clothes on female characters
Haven't spoken here in a while, but what the heck.
Not an Arab nor do I speak Arabic, but I've seen some clips and heard some things from people more knowledgeable. IIRC Shen Long was completely censored out from the Pilaf saga (the Arabic dub didn't go further than ep 52 of DB I believe) and the Saiyan saga, but the dragons were kept in the Namek/Freeza saga, in Kai etc. Even then, I don't believe there are explicit references to resurrection. Dunno how the DB movie trilogy handles Shen Long.
Also "Super Saiyan God" was renamed "Super Saiyan Hero" I believe?

This almost reminds me of the bad 4kids edits that they used to do.

Re: The Arabic version of DBS is putting extra clothes on female characters
The shows used to be edited for the U.S. (even the broadcast version of Kai gave us blue Popo). It shouldn't be surprising that other countries still edit DB to adhere to local standards.

I hope anytime Goku loses his shirt in big fights is also edited out. A guys chest, with his pecs all out ? Too unproper.

Nah cause in reality, fights rip clothes and they get taken off when people get into battles too. they are not intentionally doing it to show skin to arouse.Soppa Saia People wrote: Sat Feb 11, 2023 7:00 pmI hope anytime Goku loses his shirt in big fights is also edited out.
