I think people tend to think of the arena the way it was in the Buu Saga and in the modern games (not counting Super DBZ). But yeah, the old arena (before Goku and Piccolo blew it up) wasn't exactly a grand arena. It was a big slab, a wall for audience protection, and that room somewhere around back for warm ups and/or preliminary elimination matches. Heck, that pic could fit well for one of those.

I like Dragonball very much because I read it when I was child, so when I got to audition I begged the director to “Please give me any small part, like a man carrying sandbags behind the screen.” (laugh) Furthermore, there is Chow Yun-Fat who is my hero from when I was child. This is a dream role for me.
Glad we finally get some more info about Goku's character in the movie, and I'm excited and a bit relieved. Plus, Kamehameha.

Do you really believe those information, even if they were officially announced by fox...?

When he started filming DB on his first interview he didn't knew who Goku is and now he is honored?
C'mon...I might be wrong but I am 99% convinced that its just a false try of rising some hope about this mockery...

There is a Pilaf figure in another movie he did. So yeah, I do think he knew who Goku was before this film started. Who doesn't know Goku is?

Honestly, this isn't total proof that Chatwin knew who Goku was, but there is a chance that it was related to his next major role.

And I'd agree with what SSj_Rambo said, it might be that it was related to his next major role, even though he didn't even had a clue what the hell is that doll doing there...

And PLEASE don't say that he wanted to sound humble so he didn't want to say "Goku is the main character of DB", because I've witnessed his humbleness on some Japanese interview...

Nothing against him personally, but he clearly don't know anything about DB and he's of course NOTHING like Goku....well who from this world looks like Goku...?

Posters like you are what the Internet Anime Community thinks all Dragonball fans are. I refuse to NOT give this movie a chance based on the fact that it isn't what I know the series to be.

In all fairness, that snippet of an "interview" that you're referring to was probably a bit jarring to Chatwin. He never seems that articulate in interviews, anyway, and in that specific one, could barely understand the interviewer (who had a heavy accent and couldn't speak English very well).

Anyway, I'm sure he knew of DBZ before hand (he's my brother's age, and back when DBZ was super huge in the U.S., everyone my brother's age was at least vaguely aware of the cartoon with the violent fights and "ripped" characters), but, really, he doesn't have to have been a fan to play Goku. (He's seems to understand Goku's basic personality well enough from Wong's script.) I mean, Rossum never even heard of DBZ prior to filming, and said she didn't look into the original series, because she thought the script was sufficient enough . . . and no one really seems to roast her about that. Just sayin'. *shrug*

This trailer here looks like it has some legit images played to FUNi's extremely overplayed opening DBZ theme. It has some new posters and an image with Goku's gi., more standard look. Might make some of you happy.

What? Goku trying to steal Chi Chi from another man? Chi Chi didn't even have a boyfriend before she met Goku, and Goku wouldn't do that.

I don't think that really proves anything at all. Its just a little figure to the side.

Even though I am a Goku/Chi-Chi fan, I'm hoping this stupid "Carey" stuff isn't true. Also whenever I read that name I instantly imagine Drew Carey which brings it to some bizarre TPIR level of weirdness that somehow involves the dragon balls and the plinko machine. o_O

I think the giant bike looks cool. Of course with that bulk it probably drives slower than an ice cream truck, but nonetheless.

That bike looks alright to me.
That stunt double is pretty muscular, though.

I wouldn't take Bulma for the muscle type of girl.

And earlier, when I said I hope it isn't legit, I was talking about the Carey thing.
