SuperSaiyaManZ94 wrote: Sat Oct 28, 2023 12:53 am I already had a gut feeling that this wasn't going to be a long series the way the OG anime run, or Super was. Daima is apparently being done as a short run novelty kind of thing in order to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the franchise's beginning with that being the manga's debut in Weekly Shonen Jump back in December 1984. This isn't even the first time Toei has done a Dragon Ball animated project around an anniversary. As we previously had the Path to Power movie in 1996 to celebrate the anime's 10th anniversary (also contemporary to GT having premiered on TV just weeks earlier) and the JSAT/Yo! Son Goku and His Friends OVA in 2008 which was in honor of Shonen Jump's 40th anniversary in publication. There was also Kai being billed as such given it came out around the 20th anniversary of DBZ. So that is what this is in a similar vein, a fun short series to mark the big 4-0 of the original original version of the story.
There's nothing that suggests that Daima will be some short count series, Ajay flat out said that the 15 episode thing was false and that the animators of Daima themselves don't even know what the actual episode count will be.
SuperSaiyaManZ94 wrote: Sat Oct 28, 2023 12:53 am Overall, the concept of this series isn't one that could be sustained over a long amount so it's fitting for what Daima is intended to be.....a series to mark a big anniversary of the franchise as a whole.
You're telling me that "Goku's adventures in space" a limiting concept?

Meanwhile the longest arc of the original run could be summed up as "Goku and friends fight a wizard and his pink genie for a day" while the longest arc in general is just "Goku and Co. train for 2 days, then fight in a 48 minute tournament"
There's also nothing that suggests Daima will be a long running TV anime.
Likewise, there's no indication that it will be a short series ether.

No, there isn't but if Toriyama isn't pushed he's tended to prefer making shorter series.

What other series are even comparable to this for you to try to establish a pattern?

Toriyama's other non-DB or non-Slump works are one volume long manga or 2h long movies.

To be fair, the Broli movie was almost 3 hours long before it was trimmed down for the silver screen, wasn't it?

I've said it here before, but I'll say it again
I think it makes sense to believe that this might only be around 13 to 16 episodes, if the series is made to celebrate the 40 years of DB, then maybe they won't try make it past 2024, that is, maybe we won't have episodes in 2025 for example, if we consider this + the fact that it will be released in Fall 2024, then we would have 1 episode at the end of September and 12 more episodes until the end of 2024, in case If the series starts at the beginning of September then there would be 16 episodes, of course, considering that the series will have weekly episodes, maybe it won't even be like that in the end.
I simply wouldn't want to imagine my life without Dragon Ball, thank you Akira Toriyama (1955-2024), you are now immortal.

Correction, Toriyama dislikes drawing long manga after getting burned out working on DB, hence why every manga series he's drawn since then have been short formed.

This means nothing for an anime series like Daima , Unless he's storyboarding the show himself.

According to Daniel Castañeda, Toei Animation licensing director in Latin America, there are plans for a international release of Daima in October 2024.

The territories that will get this international release are USA, Canada, LATAM, South Africa and Oceania.

October 2024 sounds right. The 'Fall season' in Japan is usually October, November and December.

This is putting it shortly. In this article we learned Daima will last 20 episode and the release will be worldwide.

Yes, that was my point. True enough that it might be about the fact he's drawing but nothing proves it's only about that either although he's expressed it's exhausting having to constantly draw on deadlines. He's however always wanted to do short Mangas and stories, so I dunno. I'm not expecting Daima to be long.

They didn't mention any European countries yet. Presumably the deals for those have yet to be finalized. I would be very, very surprised if Shueisha isn't actively trying to get this published in as many territories as possible.

So the initial leaks got it almost correct, which were saying it's around 15 episodes.
20 is well enough for one arc, I guess some hijinks, cliffhangers and then the last boss fight will probably last 4 or 5 eps.

I'm kind of excited to get a DB dub without Sean Schemmel in the lead role...but I also hope they pick someone else than Colleen Clinkenbeard, I never liked her Kid Goku.

I'm not quite trusting a Spanish website to have it right. I'll wait and see what happens.

I believe it is true. In one paragraph it says there will be 20 episodes. In the second paragraph it say 26 episode. The word that I don't know the meaning is doblajes.

They mention Digimon Adventure 2 movie, which looks accurate.

That's contrary. The word means dubs.
