I really was hoping this was a hoax, but unfortunately it's not.

RIP Mr. Toriyama. Thank you for everything.

This is beyond awful. 68 is fairly young these days.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Jesus Christ man, RIP to an absolute legend.

Genuinely thought he had another decade or 2 left in him.

I wanted to think this was the same cruel and insensitive hoax we've got every year...

But now it truly happened. The man behind this big world of adventures, battles and stories we know as Dragon Ball has left us...

Thanks for everything, Toriyama-sensei.

Yeah, I just found out thru TVB News. This is so sudden. Kind of in a loss for words right now. If it had not been for him, I'd still be illiterate. Dragon Ball had been so influential for me to the point that I learned how to read Chinese in a country that doesn't teach Chinese literacy that effectively (Canada). This is such a downer.

My heart sank when I saw the headline on another website and I'm unexpectedly inconsolable about this.

Rest in Peace.

Had to pay respects. If there's a Valhalla for authors, Toriyama's more than earned his place. Thanks for all the fun times.

Hey, welcome back! Sad it had to be under these circumstances.

But yeah, if there's an afterlife, I hope Toriyama fiddling with his model kits right now.

You know... this January, I finally took the time to read Neko Majin, and I can't even begin to describe how hilarious it was. Like, you could tell the man really was a gag manga writer at heart. I feel like Toriyama's non-DB works don't get enough credit.

I don't think its at all an exaggeration at this point to cite Toriyama as one of the single most influential and globally impactful Japanese Manga artists of all time. Top 5 without question, alongside Osamu Tezuka, Go Nagai, and Leiji Matsumoto.

Zephyr wrote:And that's to say nothing of how pretty much impossible it is to capture what made the original run of the series so great. I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Absolutely devastating. I'm at a complete loss for words.

For me, Dragon Ball is over now. Rest in peace (and in power) to one of the greatest creatives to ever do it.

I'm still having trouble processing this. This came completely out of left field. It's the first I've heard of him even suffering from an ailment.

Rest in Peace.

This is a truly sad day for the fandom.

Of course my selfish brain goes to what does this mean for a series I have loved since childhood made possible by Toriyama, but thats more than I can say about others who have died I never met in person.

RIP one of the greatest authors in history.
