Cool Promos from places OTHER than Toonami

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

Cool Promos from places OTHER than Toonami

Post by Cure Dragon 255 » Sat May 18, 2024 8:05 pm

I think Toonami is awesome and all and it REALLY sold DBZ well, even with the crappy dubs they had to promote into looking hardcore as fuck. But I think there have been some underrated promos, especially by Nicktoons, even if I dont really have any at hand because I dont know how to find them. But some were REALLY creative and Nicktoons was a cool home for DBZKai even if it eventually returned to Toonami.

Also, sorry for making more threads, since I had promised I would only make one per month, but I wanted to see if I can make good threads and not just make terrible threads and just make a terrible one per month.

CNX promos were great like this one where they referred to the short-lived 2002-2003 Cartoon Network UK sister channel as "the only place to catch new episodes of Dragon Ball Z", which was true at the time, or the Freeza saga one, which was quite unique playing the song The Host of Seraphim by Dead Can Dance in the background, and has more of a chilling, sombre ring to it.

CNX promos also seem to be the only surviving evidence of the Funimation dub of the Fusion saga airing (though I can confirm it did happen), as we can briefly hear Kara Edwards as Gotenks as well as Justin Cook as Super Boo in this cross channel promo between Cartoon Network, Boomerang and CNX, which was a neat idea to show viewers different options they had at the same timeslot depending on which of the three shows aired at 5.30pm they preferred.

I wanted to Ban Cartoon Network and CNX because they are basically Toonami, but I am glad I DIDNT because these are very interesting.

Fair enough, I guess the Turner channels and blocks do get a bit too much discussion at the expense of other broadcasters.

Here's some from the CSC Media era of UK airings:

Kai on Kix (2012-2015) Super on Pop (2019-Present) Hopefully someone out there recorded more of the Kix and Pop promos (ideally all). They are rarer than any of the Cartoon Network, CNX and Toonami, which I think are all out there in some form (or at least almost all of them, may be one or two here and there that are lost, like the A.K.A promos)

There are a few Fusion saga promos from the launch of CNX that are lost. You posted the one with Gotenks saying "Hope you enjoy it!" and Mystic Gohan flying, but there were 3 others that played in a cycle along with that one leading up to the launch of CNX.

One had Super Buu staring at the hour glass before screaming "No more! No more waiting!"

Another had Piccolo reacting to the Super Ghost, saying "What.. the heck.. is that thing?!".

And another had Base Gotenks doing the Spindletop punch on Super Buu, saying "How about a chopper on your chops wimp?!", before hitting him.

Also there was this other CNX Fusion saga promo that aired a bit later, which got recycled by Yorkiddin in the Netherlands. The CNX version is lost, but the Yorkiddin version is basically identical;

This DBZ promo from the defunct Argentine channel Magic Kids.

I really like how DBZ was announced on this one.
[LatAm Spanish dub of Chala-Head-Chala sounds in the background]

A little too late but yeah, I've been officially active in Kanzenshuu for ten years :)
