Am I the only Gohan fan who hates Beast?

Am I the only one who sees the Son Gohan Beast transformation as an asspull? Because it was never explained in the film how he got the Beast form.

Not at all. I'd agree, and if anything that has been the consensus in this thread. It just feels like Beast was thrown in to tick the "New Transformation" box that seemingly every new Dragon Ball movie has to have.

I mean Super Broly did have a new transformation, Vegeta's hair going green was not at all subtle, I wouldn't be surprised if that was done to test the waters for a new level of Super Saiyan God.

I think it's safe to say whoever is the main character in the next movie there will be a transformation that is either a palette swap or a cheap throwback to an existing form.

Broly's Rage transformation might be (similar to) Super Saiyan 4 depending on what you understand Super Saiyan 4 is supposed to be.

If you think Super Saiyan 4 is the power of Golden Oozaru being used in a humanoid form, then that's what Rage is. Conceptually it is nearly the same, the only difference is that for Broly it isn't Golden Oozaru, it's just Oozaru.

To be honest, Super Saiyan 4 should be the only sensible way for Gohan to get a new form, instead of this uninspired non-sequitur "Beast" garbage. His Ultimate state is already bringing out all his underlying power, but if that's presumably just the gold-haired human side of his power... then regrowing his tail and bringing Great Ape back into the mix would reasonably be the only other power source left to tap into.

But I firmly reached the point of "I don't want Super Saiyan 4 getting dirtied by inclusion in Super" like halfway through its run, so it's not like I'd actually want to see it happen. Heroes has that angle for Gohan covered instead.

It was explained in the movie that that form is Broly using the power of Oozaru without having to transform into it. Maybe they took away Broly's tail because otherwise they would have been FORCED to make him a Golden Oozaru and Super Saiyan 4 once he went Ssj for the first time.

It seems a lot of forms are functionally the same as other things. There's not much difference between Ssj Rage Future Trunks and Beast Gohan besides aesthetics and strength.

I hate how the Beast Form looks and frankly I dislike the whole idea of characters needing new transformations all the time.

Ideally it wouldn't exist, but I do hope to be proven wrong. I'm hoping that Goku having UI, Vegeta having UE, Gohan having Beast and Piccolo having uhhh orange would at least let each character contribute a different form of battle tactics to fights.

Only basing this on UI being very defensive and UE basically being a tank that gets hurts a lot, but maybe Beast will prove to offer something cool that doesn't just make the characters Goku but less powerful. Though this is optimistic.

I liked it.

The movies are the only thing I like from the DBS franchise.

Gohan needed a reboot and since Cell games Gohan was the most beloved one by the america population, they took that one as a base. Yes, it is a little bit silly that the hair is that big, but it is a movie so everything goes I suppose. Gohan was lame in DBS and DBGT and his fans got enough of it, it was something necessary they way I see it.

It was also my impression that due to the mystic power acquired by Gohan he would not need to go SSJ again, but in GT he did it. Now I am thinking DBS and battle of the gods and broly movie happen in one universe and DBZ cellgames + dbs super heroe happen in another one.


Funfact: Since they were not giving Pan a SSJ transformation, I have her a beast transformation when she is 16 yo:
