Sorry if this is old but anyone notice that you can spell Devil with Videl?

No, his name's kinda-supposed'ta-maybe be pronounced "Dabra," as in "Abracadabra," a pun keeping with the whole "magic word" theme he and the other villains had in the Buu saga.Fossilgojir wrote:Can't Debura's name be rearanged to Devil (or devila, whatever) since the whole r/l and b/v thing?

Dabura? No. For one thing, his name is written with the katakana for da, whereas the katakana spelling for the English word "devil" is written with a de. Dabura's name comes from abra-cadabra, as confirmed by Toriyama in DragonBall Forever.Fossilgojir wrote:Can't Debura's name be rearanged to Devil (or devila, whatever) since the whole r/l and b/v thing?

How exactly did they handle Blue's homosexuality?Super Sonic wrote:They might've but thought, it was no big deal. Or made it subtle as they did Blue's orientation.

They had Blue making reference to the one Penguin Village boy he comes across (the name eludes me) as looking just like his little brother that he loved so much, rather than the pedophilic homosexual attraction that was apparent otherwise.
Apart from that and just finding Bulma's flirts disgusting, they didn't really do anything at all regarding his orientation (neither allowing anything to support or deny his homosexuality).

That's the one of the only times I agree with Funimation's changes. If parents had found out about that, Dragonball would have been pulled from shelves and TV.Herms wrote:How exactly did they handle Blue's homosexuality?Super Sonic wrote:They might've but thought, it was no big deal. The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Only because devout Christian housewives see homosexuality as immoral, and have nothing to do between lunch and dinner but ruin other people's shit.
FUNimation were wise to ditch the whole pedophile thing, I actually found it creepy in the Japanese version, rather than humorous.

If Funi did one thing right it is that, the animation company must have been under the impression all homosexuals are boy loving pedos just like how all black people have big red lips and pitch black skin (although that's more on Toriyama).Captain Awesome wrote: FUNimation were wise to ditch the whole pedophile thing, I actually found it creepy in the Japanese version, rather than humorous.
EDIT:Sorry for that horrible typo.

The pedophile part was filler, btut other than that, as Darkprince said, he was done rather subtle in a way where younger kid might not notice but someone older can see it. He was still rather flamboyant and Sonny Strait's voice for him was hilarious. Also remember some guys saying how Funi did him was how Uranus and Neptune should've been done.

The only difference is Blue wasn't rubbing up on men and constantly chatting up boy toys. Uranus and Neptune were always flirting with each other.Super Sonic wrote:The pedophile part was filler, btut other than that, as Darkprince said, he was done rather subtle in a way where younger kid might not notice but someone older can see it. I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.
