I really find that sad.

I agree completely, American cartoons today just aren't what they used to be. I can't even believe some of the stupid shows they allow on television these days.

I actually remember learning in school how one of the first motion pictures was of a train, and one of the camera angles used had the train steaming towards the audience. The people flipped out and ran out of the theatre, thinking the train would really hit them.

Well, do remember hearing how in the late 60s-70s parent groups were mad about violence in Lonney Tunes and Tom and Jerry. Heck, saw on first season He-Man set, they said some parent groups were protesting violence in the show before it even aired, and that's why they put the PSAs in the eps.

Wow... people were complaining about He-Man? I'm surprised they didn't go after Thundercats, what with Cheetara's semi-nudity in an episode (the first?)

Anyway, I recall reading somewhere that the issue to some isn't the quality of the cartoons - it's the fact that it's only these cartoons being shown. When I was a kid, Cartoon Network was still showing Scooby-Doo in primetime - or my own as-a-kid definition of primetime, 7:00 every weeknight. Now, all you see are cartoons made in this era, and that's the issue. Even Boomerang is suffering, showing garbage like THE Batman.

I grew up on reruns of Thundercats, Flinstones, Scooby-Doo, and many others. So I missed the original runs, big deal! What matters to me is that I remember so much about these cartoons.

edit - also, I love how Tom and Jerry has to be censored because apparently when they blow up, it shows blackface. I am PROUD to say that - along with my friends when I tell them of situations like this - I had no idea what blackface was until I looked it up. Maybe I'm naive, or maybe I have a group of naive friends; but that's how the world is now. These forms of racial humor have evolved to become less offensive, and more in a line of parody. I don't possibly see how a cat having a black face after an explosion is offensive :/.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
From what the guys said, after the show actually aired, it died down, because let's face it, He'Man wasn't that bad, though it was able to shwo more action that 70s cartoonsw due to FCC relaxing things.

I can't see it either. There seems to be one common point to all of the comments here: The shows that were being censored or people were trying to censor are the ones that people remember for being great, and the ones that are being politically correct and censoring themselves are garbage.

Heck, I'm black(Well, half, but still) and I don't find it offensive. It's the same with that lady who whined about Popo's lips being removed. It's a freaking cartoon, stop PMS'ing about it and get on with your life.

Just to be fair, I'm looking at a list of their current programming and I'd say it is far from "down the shitter," The Batman no withstanding (and I dont even think thats a bad show, though I hated it at first).

For example, to balance that, they have Batman: TAS. They have Hong Kong Phooey, Jabberjaw, Johnny Quest, Cow & Chicken, Duck Dodgers, Huckleberry Hound, The Jetsons, The Flintstones, Captain Planet, Swat Kats, Snorks, Yogi Bear, Voltron, Dexter's Laboratory, etc, etc, etc.

Batman TAS is on Jetix. Now, Toon Disney I have a love-hate relationship with. I love some shows on Jetix (Oban Star-Racers), but I hate that it takes away from my 90's Disney cartoons (Chip & Dale, anyone?). Toon Disney should just rename itself Jetix already.

I know Batman's on there, cuz I actually get that channel (unlike Boomerang). I just read that it was also on Boomerang.

From what I hear, they edit Batman and Superman on that channel, which is something CN never did. Makes me glad I have the entire series of Batman on dvd, save vol. 4. Am mad they still edit older shows on Jetix like PR, Digimon, and both Spider-Mans because of buildings blowing up/on fire. It's been almost 7 years, get over it.

Bah. Looked it up, and they do. Good job Disney, once again you screw up a good show. They did the same with OSR - I mean, not even the UK got the edits we did for that show. Which IS saying something, believe me.

edit- wait, they screwed up Digimon too? How can they do that when Saban already edited the HELL outta that?

THey haven't seemed to have touched Tamers as like it originally was uncut except for buildings in peril, but they keep skipping that episode of BlackWargreymon and Wargreymon's fight. Likely due to buildings in peril, though I haven't seen that ep in years.
