It certainly would have been interesting. If they had to cram all of the Ginyu and Frieza sagas into 12 episodes than I'm guessing that the Ginyu sga wouldhave been crammed into about 4 episodes and then the fighsbetween Frieza and the Z fighters would have been cut a lot! All of the stuff on Earth (except Guru's death and the wishing everyone back) would have been cut and likely some flashbacks as well. Overall it would have been lame compared to what we got but interesting nonetheless.

I'm sure that it could be done, but some script changes would have to be made to bring it all down to 12 episodes. Though, looking at how long the seasons themselves were, I'm guessing that a third and final season of Saban Ball Z would've probably been more like 24 episodes. Just cut out a bunch of random unnecessary filler and stock footage from the Ginyu and Freeza fights and simply cover the portions that are integral to moving the story forward (i.e. no filler) and you might have something near that amount of episodes.

Still, that would take away about half of the third season and might require some script changes, but with how much sheer filler there is in the anime it wouldn't be too hard to cut things down to something manageable. In a way, I would really like to see a version of Dragonball Z that is devoid of filler that could tell the entire third season in half the time it actually took in the actual series.

People have always thrown the idea around of cutting the filler out of the series by way of editing.

I personally would love to see if someone could edit down the whole Namek/Ginyu/Freeza thing into something movie length, and still see if they can get it to make sense.

...but it's probably impossible without dialog changes.

They'd have to start off with Kurririn, Gohan and Bulma on Namek ASAP
They would also need to cut the shit and have Vegeta go directly after Dodoria. I think it's possible, they would just need to shorten a LOT of details.

The hardest thing would be keeping track of the Dragonballs throughout the "movie" seeing as how they do change hands quite a bit.

Goku would also have to arrive quickly, to leave us enough time for a quick battle with Ginyu, and the resulting peril in the battle with Freeza as they wait for Goku to heal.

Things could be edited together to skip the Ginyu Tokusentai, and have Goku arrive on Namek as the fight with Freeza begins..though that would make the whole crazy "Zenkai" thing even more far fetched.

It's an interesting idea, but it would be pretty hard to boil all those episodes to their bare essentials AND manage to keep them coherent when edited together.

..I guess we could always cheat and change some of the subtitles

People have always thrown the idea around of cutting the filler out of the series by way of editing.

I was wanting to do this, but I can't figure out how to get the episodes off my DVDs.

That would be pretty interesting to watch (are you going to use Daizenshuu EX's Filler Guide for Reference?), all of the episodes would come out different lengths!

To get the episodes off of you DVD's you need some video editing software, but don't worry, it can be pretty cheap if all you are looking to do is remove certain scenes.

It could easily be done as a recap that fans would easily understand, but for someone new itd be harder to do.
