THREAD/DISCUSSION INFORMATION
Q: What is this thread?
A: This is the singular/dedicated discussion thread for Dragon Ball Daima episode 12. All content regarding this specific episode would be great to include here in this thread, rather than a dedicated / larger / all-encompassing ongoing thread. Posts that are specific to this individual episode in another thread with no relevance to the larger series or discussion taking place there will be reported and/or removed.
Q: When will this thread open?
A: This thread will be opened by a Kanzenshuu moderator when the episode is available to watch, through official channels, in its entirety.
Q: What is the history behind a [blank]-specific discussion thread?
A: We established episode-specific discussion threads beginning with Dragon Ball Kai in 2009, followed by the Dragon Ball Super television series in 2015. These episode-specific threads allowed people to discuss just that: those specific episodes, without being interrupted by other discussions regarding general production, promotion, etc. This is in contrast to, for example, other things on our website like our podcast reviews, which generally tackle story arcs as complete wholes.
Q: OK, but... so what's the point?
A: At Kanzenshuu we believe in history and preservation. It is worthwhile to future versions of ourselves and entirely new future fans to be able to dig back and find real-time reactions to specific productions (such as a specific episode or chapter). It's much easier to do this when the discussions are separated into these unique threads.
Q: When will new threads be created?
A: Threads for new/upcoming episodes will be created by a Kanzenshuu administrator at an appropriate point in time. Please do not attempt to create episode discussion threads of your own.
Q: What kinds of "sources" can we discuss?
A: You can discuss whatever you want, so long as it lives up to the community guidelines. It is recommended that you link to / discuss actual sources of information, rather than second-hand accounts. Random Twitter users are not "sources" of information. Shueisha has its own official Dragon Ball website and weekly news broadcast on YouTube, and then there is of course Dragon Ball Daima's own official website, which will in all likelihood be your actual primary sources of information leading up to an episode’s release.
Q: What if I have something to say about another episode that's not this episode?
A: Is what you have to say/ask/post even tangentially related to this episode? That's fine. Does it have absolutely nothing to do with this episode? Post it elsewhere. These episode-specific threads do not automatically close after a new episode comes out; you are free to keep discussing a specific episode for as long as you all feel like talking about it.
Q: How does this relate to [insert example here]? Why isn't [insert example here] lining up with [insert example here] from [insert example here]?
A: We don't know! We're all learning along the way! Maybe everything counts! Maybe nothing counts! Maybe only certain things count!

Good:
- Majin Kuu and Duu are the best things this show had to offer so far.
- At least all the Tamagamis are defeated, the villains are onto each other, and the endgame will finally be here.
Bad:
- "Vegeta can go Super Saiyan, why is the show even trying to make this seem like it's a big deal? Why end in a pretty avoidable cliffhanger and make us waste time when we all know the conclusion: Vegeta will just activate the 'Fuck it, I'm a main character!' transformation and be done with it?" I didn't know it'd be SSJ3, but I called it. Boring, predictable fight scene is predictable and boring.
- The ship seems in bad condition... My patience is running thin, Daima.
Misc:
- Apparently, Episode 13 will only come January 10th.

Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta was not on my Bingo card.
Also Kuu appears to be way smarter than what we were led to believe.

So, Episode 13 is gonna be like GT's Episode 6 with an island of big animals and all?

SSJ3 chibi Vegeta looked....weird with his hair sticking up.
I would prefer it just looked like it did in RB2:

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 12 - Official Discussion Thread
I LOVE the dynamic between Majin Kuu and Duu. Clearly, they have the right combo of brains for the former and brawns for the latter, with Kuu being extremely good with intelligent matters and Duu just being very unpredictable and overwhelming to fight. With Dr. Arinsu now having the First Demon World's Dragon Ball, this will expedite things and let the Dragon Balls be brought together quickly.
Of course, that brings into questions Glorio's loyalties, as it's clear that while he may work for Arinsu, he's come to enjoy the company of Panzy, Goku, and Shin.
Also interesting how Neva enhanced Tamagami #2 to become even stronger than he'd presumably be ordinarily, superior to SS2 Vegeta even. So when that doesn't work, you use SS3! First time he's ever done it in canon! And hey, that means Future Trunks was actually correct in assessing that Vegeta could've shown off SS3 to him, retroactively. I imagine they'll probably retroactively justify its absence by the BoG story arc via Vegeta dismissing the form as useless beyond a quick and draining power boost.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 12 - Official Discussion Thread
Fantastic episode. And, as I recalled from the Buu saga, Vegeta doesn't like bugs, this is indeed going to cause some shenanigans if they'll actually need to fuse (and I think they'll do).
Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 12 - Official Discussion Thread
The Vegeta stuff was honestly really boring. I know I haven't been sleeping lately, but this episode kind of put me to sleep. I think my favorite bit was Kuu once again just being the most enthusiastic aniki as possible.
I'm not invested in Vegeta's arc...because he doesn't really have one. This fight was like watching paint dry.

Seems like they went with an alternate Toryama concept art for SSJ3 Vegeta. Pretty cool.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 12 - Official Discussion Thread
Leave it to Toriyama to swerve us with not only giving Vegeta SS3 but giving him his own unique design to boot, I think it’s a reference one of his earlier drafts of what SS3 Goku would look like! Pretty cool stuff, solid episode. I think next week is gonna be the cool down epsidoe from basically two episodes of fighting.
So moving forward I think any game that wants to include SS3 Vegeta will have to follow this design.
EDIT: I’m sensing a hint of potential betrayal with the Majin’s eventually rejecting Arinsu and doing their own thing (probably merging).Kuu wanted some acknowledgment for his assistance in helping Duu get the Dragon Ball but not only was he dismissed, Ariana didn’t even notice. Him(Kuu) thinking to himself about it is probably just an ever so slight chink in the armor that we’re gonna see more of, little by little.
I’m also wonder just how loyal is Degesu to Gomah, he seems to not really want to go against his sister but she and Gorman are definitely gonna butt heads at some point with Goku and the gang just being kinda thrusted into the middle of it all.

Yay! Vegeta did use Super Saiyan 2, after all!
And in many shots, his hair was visibly sharper. This is actually the first time I could easily tell the difference between the two forms without having to rely on the appearance of lightnings when it comes to Vegeta! Isn't always great whenever they actually put some effort into animating things correctly!?
This is the first episode to display some noteworthy soundtrack, the one that played during the Majin fight against Tamagami, I like that one.
... Oh, and Vegeta got Super Saiyan 3, which chronologically makes sense, but at this point? After thirty years since the end of Majin Buu saga? After fourteen years after Dragon Ball Heroes gave it to him? Too late to cause any kind of impact. Also, why didn't Vegeta use Super Saiyan 3 against Beerus?

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 12 - Official Discussion Thread
Kuu and Duu were once again Amusing. Now I like the fact that writers made sure to make Vegeta's fighting style against Tamagami 2 look different than Goku vs Tamagami 3. Now Vegeta going SS3 was a surprise and it is contradictory since in BOG he had a Rage boost on SS2 which put him above SS3 Goku in terms of power. So giving him SS3 now is just weird and doesn't make any sense, but then again Dragon ball already has contradicted itself multiple times like when Goku suddenly went SSG in the Anime's tournament of power arc after not using it all even though he had absorbed SSG's power in him during the BOG arc and was strong as his SSG self in SS. This was even stated by Beerus in the Anime. Typical Toei

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 12 - Official Discussion Thread
My kid self would have lost it at the sight of SSJ3 Vegeta. Never expected it after Super skipped it.
I'm glad they didn't dwell in any manufactured hardships and Vegeta quickly powered up. The fight was fine, the SSJ3 portion was the best.
Neva giving a power up seems like something the characters should tackle. He actively tried to sabotage their quest. Might have been for fun and an excuse for SSJ3 but it has implications in the story; or it should at least.
The Duu fight was great because it utilized in full the unique characteristics of their physiology. That headbutt was stellar.
Kuu continues to be the MVP.
Seems like next episode Gomah enters the fray. Curious about his treacherous magic.
I like the angles to mystify Glorio's state of mind, in this episode when Kaioshin mentions going to the First Makai.
Seems like the ship will break again.
PS: At this point it seems obvious Daima disregards Super. It takes elements from it but doesn't bother about the details which would just bring down the current product with limitations. It's just another branching path and that's for the best in me opinion.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 12 - Official Discussion Thread
I like Vegeta's fight being differentiated from Goku's by having modifiers...like the Kraken being a stage hazard and Neva boosting the Tamagami's strength.
Unfortunately it wasn't as interesting as it could've been. I don't know why Vegeta really needed to get SSJ3 here...but at least it looks distinct for him.
Due to the nature of these fights there's no way they could've made giving Vegeta SSJ3 actually satisfying, there are no real stakes in this scenario other than his own pride and that didn't really come up here either. It doesn't help that the fight itself was a little lacking, I think if the Kraken kept playing a part instead of peacing out...this could've been cooler.
---
Based on last episode I was wondering if Duu could actually stretch his body...and wasn't just very gelatinous. I happy to see that he does have that ability. They did a decent job at showing how his abilities were playing a big part in catching him off guard...it's not enough to be unpredictable in your actions (Kuu could only fight head on)...have an amorphous body helps as well.
Though he did say "I give up", I like how Duu did effectively dominate/knock out Tamagami #1...the others at least still looked like they were in fighting condition.
Not much to say plot wise...Obligatory fixing the ship moment.

That would be difficult to explain because Vegeta completely lost it against Beerus, in that situation he would probably use the highest SSJ form he could access because he wouldn’t be thinking all that clearly.PerhapsTheOtherOne wrote: Fri Dec 27, 2024 2:03 pm I imagine they'll probably retroactively justify its absence by the BoG story arc via Vegeta dismissing the form as useless beyond a quick and draining power boost.
I also never understood the idea that SSJ3 was useless, it increases your power output substantially. Is that a Super era retcon I'm not aware of?
Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 12 - Official Discussion Thread
I had the opposite reaction to the episode. For me, the Majin Duu stuff felt a bit underwhelming, especially with how little they utilized Tamagami No. 1. Vegeta’s fight started slow for sure, but the reveal of SS3 really hooked me. It raised the stakes in a way I found compelling. And the way Vegeta solved his mental test recalled how his IQ used to be a lot different from the other Saiyans. Different perspectives though.JulieYBM wrote: Fri Dec 27, 2024 2:06 pm The Vegeta stuff was honestly really boring. I know I haven't been sleeping lately, but this episode kind of put me to sleep.
