THREAD/DISCUSSION INFORMATION
Q: What is this thread?
A: This is the singular/dedicated discussion thread for Dragon Ball Daima episode 13. All content regarding this specific episode would be great to include here in this thread, rather than a dedicated / larger / all-encompassing ongoing thread. Posts that are specific to this individual episode in another thread with no relevance to the larger series or discussion taking place there will be reported and/or removed.
Q: When will this thread open?
A: This thread will be opened by a Kanzenshuu moderator when the episode is available to watch, through official channels, in its entirety.
Q: What is the history behind a [blank]-specific discussion thread?
A: We established episode-specific discussion threads beginning with Dragon Ball Kai in 2009, followed by the Dragon Ball Super television series in 2015. These episode-specific threads allowed people to discuss just that: those specific episodes, without being interrupted by other discussions regarding general production, promotion, etc. This is in contrast to, for example, other things on our website like our podcast reviews, which generally tackle story arcs as complete wholes.
Q: OK, but... so what's the point?
A: At Kanzenshuu we believe in history and preservation. It is worthwhile to future versions of ourselves and entirely new future fans to be able to dig back and find real-time reactions to specific productions (such as a specific episode or chapter). It's much easier to do this when the discussions are separated into these unique threads.
Q: When will new threads be created?
A: Threads for new/upcoming episodes will be created by a Kanzenshuu administrator at an appropriate point in time. Please do not attempt to create episode discussion threads of your own.
Q: What kinds of "sources" can we discuss?
A: You can discuss whatever you want, so long as it lives up to the community guidelines. It is recommended that you link to / discuss actual sources of information, rather than second-hand accounts. Random Twitter users are not "sources" of information. Shueisha has its own official Dragon Ball website and weekly news broadcast on YouTube, and then there is of course Dragon Ball Daima's own official website, which will in all likelihood be your actual primary sources of information leading up to an episode’s release.
Q: What if I have something to say about another episode that's not this episode?
A: Is what you have to say/ask/post even tangentially related to this episode? That's fine. Does it have absolutely nothing to do with this episode? Post it elsewhere. These episode-specific threads do not automatically close after a new episode comes out; you are free to keep discussing a specific episode for as long as you all feel like talking about it.
Q: How does this relate to [insert example here]? Why isn't [insert example here] lining up with [insert example here] from [insert example here]?
A: We don't know! We're all learning along the way! Maybe everything counts! Maybe nothing counts! Maybe only certain things count!

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 13 - Official Discussion Thread
Weakest episode of Daima so far (next to Episode 9, the thiefs one)
The ship malfunctioning YET AGAIN, Goku/Vegeta/Piccolo sandbagging to keep the "tension", Glorio rats out on the cast again as per every episode. The giants being so much powerful is absurd, nobody should complain about GT Worms after this anymore.
Best part was the Degesu stuff with Warp, episode should have focused more on him and, Gomah. Characterize your main villains already.
And when it comes to Giant-centric episodes, I like GT's Episode 6 "Like Pulling Teeth" more. It felt more vibrant, colorful and optimistic, with Goku taking it easy because these kind of things were a non-isuse to him.
At least preview for the next one is promising, Goku is gonna be defeated, by whom? Most likely some kind of a trap that catches him off guard. But they spoiled it so early, so I expect that by Episode 15 he recovers out of it.

Checked crunchyroll, not up yet. But it's up and running on Viu TV in Hong Kong. What's the delay?!
Decided not to wait in crunchyroll and went with Viu TV. Goku and gang dealing with giant dog. Blah! Back story on how these alien ships work. Yay! Episode was kinda meh....

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 13 - Official Discussion Thread
... What was this episode... It felt like it had a completely different director or something, had such a different feel from the entire series, and not in a good way I would say.
We basically got no plot progression, no interesting lore (I guess the giga planet thing was good for a laugh) and the tension they were trying to build just failed so poorly.
The dialogue was so uninteresting as well. If it wasn't for the last minute which was actually really nice visually and kind of heartwarming as everyone just enjoyed the sights in silence, this would be the worst episode for me, but 9 still takes it.
What a come down after the SSJ3 hype. The editing was atrocious as well, fades to black or just straight cuts, and it felt like most of the time there was no soundtrack either when they're probably should have been. This felt like a fever dream.

Shin is so fruity.
I thought this was probably the strongest episode of Daima in a long while. I really liked how off-balance everyone spent the entire episode, but I also really liked seeing the girls bond over the repairs and we even got some new info on Majinlite. I'm not the biggest fan of world-building, but I do think that if Blooma gets some of it they could probably give her an interesting storyline.
The Megaths challenging Gokuu, Vegeta and Piccolo so much is exactly what I wish we had gotten more of in the series. Let's see these people sweatin'!
I don't think this would have been nearly a strong enough episode if Series Director Komaki Aya hadn't storyboarded and directed it. I really hope she's involved with the final fight and that's why she hasn't worked personally on previous episodes much. A fun fact about this episode is that her husband, Dragon Ball veteran Hisada Kazuya, was the top credited key animator. I don't think Hisada has worked on Dragon Ball since the PS2 video game openings twenty-two years ago?

I thought it was a fun episode, but yet again it spent too long on this (not) little side adventure when it opened with the deactivation of Warp.

It was just a fun episode, seeing the gang have to deal with such gigantic powerful things.
We don't get enough of the cast going up against kaiju-level obstacles in the series, but this episode shows how fun that idea can be.
Also some good worldbuilding with Majilite and Planet Mega, and I especially loved how scared Neva was to be there compared to his usual composed and carefree self.
And Planet Giga being a thing is just a fun joke to cap it all off.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 13 - Official Discussion Thread
Really feels like this episode should have happened before Vegeta fighting Tamagami 2. It also seems kinda weird to have both the ship having problems (again...) and the Warp being deactivated happen in the same episode. But it was fun and beautiful. Certainly managed to give a better sense of scale than when GT did the same idea. It was odd to see Neva so scared, but I guess I can buy an adult Mega would be that dangerous to him. It also led to my favourite scene, of having them hype the planet so much only to be attacked by an army of cute hamsters.
It was also nice to see the entire cast actually doing stuff together finally. I guess it's just a fun yet unremarkable episode- it can get old fast if we get more episodic adventures like this, but as it stands now, it's harmless and a good break from the previous two episodes.
I will say, the Giga joke kind of falls flat tho. We already know they have just met a child, so it's up to the viewer to imagine how the adults are. That's cool and works. Saying there are even bigger beings in a close planet just undermines it, and not even for a good joke. I was expecting a more Toriyama dumb reason for another planet to be considered more dangerous, not just "it's the same but worse"

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 13 - Official Discussion Thread
Another beautiful animated episode, but nothing much important for the plot happened, so I already predict some posts like 'this one felt like filler' lol.
• Disabling Warp-Sama might lead to something that messes with their journey, curious to see how they’ll deal with that
• Since 'Came from the Demon World' is the new 'Beerus did it,' I honestly wouldn’t mind the retcon that Dr. Gero somehow had access to the Majinlite and used them when making No. 17 and 18, explaining why they’re so strong
• Even though Dabura was the King of the Demon World, he never dared to fight the Tamagami, let alone mess with the Mega beings' territories? Interesting, since many would expect him to be the strongest just because he’s the King
• Neva reveals that 'Giga' is an even worse territory than the Mega one lol, I wonder if that’s where they’re heading according to the NEP? I don’t think so, two episodes in a row with a plot about giant beings would be kinda lame

I don't see how that makes the joke fall flat. The giga children would be even bigger than this child and the same with adults. They kept it a mystery all episode too which worked in there favour.MisteryOne wrote: Fri Jan 10, 2025 1:55 pm Really feels like this episode should have happened before Vegeta fighting Tamagami 2. I think if this happened before episode 2 it would have been too long a stretch of these 'episode adventures'. People were pretty down on Daima before SSJ3 Vegeta reinvigorated some life for what seems like the majority of the fan base (at least in terms of Internet presence and sentiment)
Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 13 - Official Discussion Thread
Glad we have returned to a more leisurely pace even if the excuse, yet again, is ship problems.
Overall it was a fun with a bit of lore.
- Glad to see Bulma interact with Panzy.
- The Majinite lore reinforces the oppressive role of the Supreme Demon King. Bulma wants some, probably means nothing but perhaps?
- The Kraken was connected to an even bigger threat. Megas which are only secondary to Gigas.
The scene when everyone discovers about the Giga planet and Goku looks out the window, happy at the prospect while everyone else is still stressed, perfectly encapsulates his character.
I also enjoyed during the final scene, everyone is illuminated, except Glorio who's in the shadow. They have been giving us these shots all show, the payoff for the character better be worth it.
I would have liked to visit Nahare's home but it seems we'll be at the passage to the First Demon Realm next episode.

In before planet Tera.
Meh episode. Goku and friends being stupid as usual, they forget they can fly and (at least Goku and Vegeta) can turn into Super Saiyan 3, though I can see Goku's reasoning for not wanting to harm the hamsters.
The only nice scene was Hybis being used as a stool while Bulma and Panzy chatted nonchalantly, interestingly enough this even isn't the first time Bulma did something like that, remember when she used Oolong to peek into a window of the Tenkaichi Budokai building?
Also, with Warp-sama disabled, it looks like they're going to take the tunnel route after all. I might be wrong, but it looks like that Goku is actually falling into it in the NEP. We'll see, hoping that the next episode can be better than this one. I mean, it would be hard for it to be worse, but...

Felt like filler. Daima has some boring episodes that I don't imagine anyone rewatching.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 13 - Official Discussion Thread
The episode wasn't great, but I liked it. It's the first time Daima has actually felt like a real adventure so far, with unique visuals, and believable environmental obstacles, even if it's borrowing a lot from one of GT's episodes. Demon Realm 2 is proving much more interesting than 3.
The concept of a "unexplored planet/realm with beings so powerful it makes Goku & co look like ants" (in this case, literally) is what I expected Super to do when they revealed the 12 Universes, sort of like the Dark Continent concept in HxH. I'm glad this concept is being explored somewhat with the demon realm.
I know we're not out of Realm 2 yet, but I have no idea what was the point of bringing Piccolo along if he's doing nothing.

Not a fan of this episode after a 2 week wait. The adventure vibes are totally fine and the lore, but I was hoping for the plot to progress more since we have only 6 episodes left in the series. The gang have not been to demon world 1 yet, and the gang have not met any of the major antagonists yet.

Some of the scenes from the intro where Piccolo is helping fight and powering up with Vegeta have not occurred yet, so we shall wait and see. I've sadly accepted that Gohan will not appear in Daima.Yuji wrote: Fri Jan 10, 2025 3:38 pm

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 13 - Official Discussion Thread
There is something pretty backwards in this show's narrative that these ancillary creatures are able to really push the main characters vs the main story where they just sweep through everything. The Kraken has finally been outranked by the giants that hunt and consume them...
A pretty boring episode overall. I do actually like seeing the designs for these new creatures and races but I just wish it was in support of a more engaging story. The animation was great though.

I'm dropping my "Good/Bad/Whatever" thing, because at this point, it's just not worth it anymore.
I thought the plot was going to go somewhere. Then, BOOM. Filler ship problems.
Actually, no, I called the filler ship problems last thread, so Daima is just being its regular, predictable, boring self.
This was yet another "nothing" episode that exists primarily to throw unnecessary exposition about the Demon World, a lot of which I'm wholly uninterested about. Glad to see capsules back, though.
And by the next episode preview, I call that Toriyama is dusting off the old "Oh no, Goku was knocked out, is this the final end of our hero- Ha ha, just kidding. Goku is really overpowered, he was just hungry, now he'll fight for real and humiliate the enemy in 2 seconds. Isn't Goku so amazing, kids?
" that he hasn't used since the original Dragon Ball.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 13 - Official Discussion Thread
Because something doesn't have the same impact when you tell it twice. What difference does it make that Gigas are even bigger than Megas? Unless Giga children are even bigger than Mega adults -which is that was the case should have been stated- it doesn't make much of an impact. The episode sets up the joke at the start by blatantly stating its the second worst, but then the joke is just "it's just the second biggest". The joke of Mega itself is repeated but without the exageration or scale to work twice. It's just a bad joke delivery. You set up a mistery about how Mega adults may be, then ruin it inmediatly by saying "btw there is something even bigger than that unseen thing we left to your imagination". It also makes the dialogue and descriptions of the planet feel incredibly artificial and forced.nato25 wrote: Fri Jan 10, 2025 2:12 pmI don't see how that makes the joke fall flat.
I think if this happened before episode 2 it would have been too long a stretch of these 'episode adventures'. People were pretty down on Daima before SSJ3 Vegeta reinvigorated some life for what seems like the majority of the fan base (at least in terms of Internet presence and sentiment)
I also fail to see why the series should work in accordance to how the fandom reacts to it. We didn't really have a long stretch of adventures after Goku defeated Tamagami 3, and the Tamagami 1 fights could have still hsppened without Vegeta fighting 2 in the meantime. I really want to know what you consider "long", and why you think it's a good idea to instead have them have adventures in the second realm *now* after already picking up the Dragonball, specially in the same episode the Warp is disabled so they can't go to the First realm. If you are going to make filler, it's better to not make it so blatantly obvious as in "they have all the DBs now, but oh no ship malfuction again! Now watch this unrelated episode where they don't even get to the deactivated Warp!" This is even the first episode that genuinely felt like an adventure to begin with.
Let's not forget Daima was supposed to be a web series. And most importantly, if they cared that much about the fandom reactions, they would have never placed it before Super and more importantly turned the characters into children. That has already alineated a lot of the fandom that is not going to come back just because Vegeta got SS3- it wasn't even its animated debut. And even going by your logic the people who would have done that would have been put off by this episode now happening after all the hype as you said yourself. There is lots of ways this could have worked better just by simply reestructuring the two Tamagami fights to not happen at the same time. But above all I just can't subscribe to the idea of judging a story by what reaction it has in such a big fandom, specially on one that is not even interested in an adventure like original DB and that genuinely argues the show has worst pacing than the original animated run.
I would gladly rewatch this episode rather that most ones of the Super anime, specially from the BoG and RoF arcs or certain parts of the ToP. It's not even a contest in terms of pacing and boredom.FortuneSSJ wrote: Fri Jan 10, 2025 3:13 pm Felt like filler. Daima has some boring episodes that I don't imagine anyone rewatching.
Seeing Neva is only in the party because of the bad excuse of knowing Namekian, I doubt there was any reasoning for bringing Piccolo along. But then again you can say that for most of the bloated cast. Bulma is completely redundant with Panzy around, there is nothing she adds to the plot as proven now that they have propertly interacted. Panzy could have easily exposited about the energy to Goku, Shin or even Hybis.Yuji wrote: Fri Jan 10, 2025 3:38 pm I know we're not out of Realm 2 yet, but I have no idea what was the point of bringing Piccolo along if he's doing nothing.
I was at least hoping Vegeta and Piccolo would be forced to have some kind of interactions before meeting up with the Goku group, but alas that ship has long sailed by now. Had this not been after Super Hero and the first weekly DB anime in years, I wonder if either of them would have even been included by Toriyama/Toei.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 13 - Official Discussion Thread
Them not transforming until the last part of the episode pissed me off more that I thought it would.
