THREAD/DISCUSSION INFORMATION

Q: What is this thread?

A: This is the singular/dedicated discussion thread for Dragon Ball Daima episode 17. All content regarding this specific episode would be great to include here in this thread, rather than a dedicated / larger / all-encompassing ongoing thread. Posts that are specific to this individual episode in another thread with no relevance to the larger series or discussion taking place there will be reported and/or removed.

Q: When will this thread open?

A: This thread will be opened by a Kanzenshuu moderator when the episode is available to watch, through official channels, in its entirety.

Q: What is the history behind a [blank]-specific discussion thread?

A: We established episode-specific discussion threads beginning with Dragon Ball Kai in 2009, followed by the Dragon Ball Super television series in 2015. These episode-specific threads allowed people to discuss just that: those specific episodes, without being interrupted by other discussions regarding general production, promotion, etc. This is in contrast to, for example, other things on our website like our podcast reviews, which generally tackle story arcs as complete wholes.

Q: OK, but... so what's the point?

A: At Kanzenshuu we believe in history and preservation. It is worthwhile to future versions of ourselves and entirely new future fans to be able to dig back and find real-time reactions to specific productions (such as a specific episode or chapter). It's much easier to do this when the discussions are separated into these unique threads.

Q: When will new threads be created?

A: Threads for new/upcoming episodes will be created by a Kanzenshuu administrator at an appropriate point in time. Please do not attempt to create episode discussion threads of your own.

Q: What kinds of "sources" can we discuss?

A: You can discuss whatever you want, so long as it lives up to the community guidelines. It is recommended that you link to / discuss actual sources of information, rather than second-hand accounts. Random Twitter users are not "sources" of information. Shueisha has its own official Dragon Ball website and weekly news broadcast on YouTube, and then there is of course Dragon Ball Daima's own official website, which will in all likelihood be your actual primary sources of information leading up to an episode’s release.

Q: What if I have something to say about another episode that's not this episode?

A: Is what you have to say/ask/post even tangentially related to this episode? That's fine. Does it have absolutely nothing to do with this episode? Post it elsewhere. These episode-specific threads do not automatically close after a new episode comes out; you are free to keep discussing a specific episode for as long as you all feel like talking about it.

Q: How does this relate to [insert example here]? Why isn't [insert example here] lining up with [insert example here] from [insert example here]?

A: We don't know! We're all learning along the way! Maybe everything counts! Maybe nothing counts! Maybe only certain things count!

Cool animation, but Gomah's design is so lame =_=
Why did they approve of this, smh.

Nice to see SSJ3 Goku back, much to my surprise he did appear in this series! Now Vegeta should do it too so they tag team him, seems he's gonna be having difficulty with one SS3 so two would definitely take him out - until he transforms further that is.

Hoping he isn't the final boss, we still got time for someone else.

What the hell was this fighting choreography? What the hell was this animation? The NEP promised me more. Liars!

And WHY DO WE NEED EVEN MORE EXPOSITION ABOUT THE THIRD EYE??? Why do we need even more pointless information repeated to us???!!!! Please, Daima. Just shut the fuck up about the Third Eye already!!!!!

All this build up and Gomah was yet another "nothing" threat. No, I'm serious, he doesn't evoke any bit of tension whatsoever.
And how dare this show throw me yet another section of fake tension until Goku decides "Enough playing around. Next episode, we'll fight FOR REALSIES!!!!!!!"

I'm flabbergasted. How come this is the 4th to last episode and almost nothing happened?!?!

I'm betting Gomah is going to use the Terrain to become some kind of Rock Titan thing

Then Goku & Vegeta (and Piccolo perhaps too? I think bugs might be a 3 way fusion) fuse into a strong Warrior and defeat him

Not all characters have the same information as the audience does, outside of Glorio, no one in Goku's gang knew what the Third Eye was until now.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

We didn't need the flashback sequence and the drawn-out explanations.

So does the new video preview that released just flat out state that Gomah is the final boss after all? RIP surprise Degesu return I guess.
And what about Arinsu, she's becoming good after this? Or dying in the crossfire.

it was a good episode but i really wish Gomah had a better design he looks too much like Jiren and i really wish whenever someone gets a power up in dragonball it's only stronger punches and kicks make them have some actually strong abilities

Gomah throwing rocks around isn't impressive and doesn't make him feel like he's a huge threat

Man I was really worried about the animation the way goku and Duu started, thankfully it got better from there. Fight choreography for this series is still fairly bad though.

The fight with Goku and Duu was pretty bad. I think the worst in the series. But the one with Gomah and everyone else was amazing, saved the episode for me. It’s a shame that it was only like 3 minutes though. 6.5/10

Just watched it. Not sure if the imagery of Goku/Vegeta fighting the Tamagamis are reused animation, but it looks like Neva will be the surprise final villain.

EDIT: Never mind, it was reused animation from the past episodes lol
Well, shame on me for giving Daima the benefit of doubt that anything remotely interesting will happen in this finale, this show is doomed.

Gomah has a personality, not similar enough

This was a fine episode, the fusion bugs are definitely coming up in the climax.

Regardless I'm also very tired of hearing about it. That's the third time basically the exact same thing has been said? Maybe the fourth?

Fun episode, it's hard to judge gomah's power. Base Vegeta seemed to put up a decent fight against him but then ssj didn't go a thing. He stomped everyone fairly easily so hopefully SSJ3 can put up a good fight.

Was some bad animation this time which was a bit disappointing to see for the first time in a big fight episode.

All this talk about Jiren is funny... it reminds me that it was a demon who killed Jiren's parents and mentor. Of course, with only 3 episodes left, I don't believe Jiren will be mentioned or shown in any way.

Just some food for thought. :)
At his core Zamasu is good like Shin, though I guess you could say he was so fastidious that it backfired. But you know, for this "Future Trunks Arc" you had to depict Zamasu and Trunks' inner conflict, right? If this was back when I was drawing the manga myself then I doubt if I could have done it. I mean, I'm not very good at depicting the characters' psychology on the page. So this all came together because now I only have to think up the story. [...] On my own, I doubt I would have been able to express Zamasu's fall to the dark side.

Finally, an episode of Dragon Ball. Really enjoyed this one. Hybis being dodgy once he realized he fucked up was funny. Gomah wanted to test his strength by fighting, you love to see it. The action was very reminiscent of both Geran and Broli. Seeing everyone team up against him was cool.

A few days ago on Discord I was musing about an alternative setup for Daima:
but imagine?
Knowing that the universes were made at the behest of the Supreme Demon King...the current Demon King thinks they belong under his jurisdiction, and wants to invade the universes, take them over, and rule them
so in order to weaken their main line of defense (the people who beat Boo), he wishes them to be young weaklings, and steal their Dragon Ball daddy
prompting some of the cast to take the fight directly to the Supreme Demon King in the Demon Realm
So I thought it was funny that Arinsu seems to have that sort of thing in mind.

Glad to be wrong about it taking until the end of Episode 19 for Goku to use Super Saiyan 3

17: They fight the Boo Brothers, and Gomah starts making things scary
18: They fight Gomah and turn Super Saiyan 1 or 2 by the very end
19: They continue to fight Gomah and turn Super Saiyan 3 by the very end
20: They continue to fight Gomah, use the join bugs to defeat him, wish to return to normal, and try to go home (until their plane breaks down just before the credits roll)

They spent less than a minute repeating information, relax. The frequent drawn out staring throughout the episode was way more egregious.

Pretty fun overall.

Goku definitely seemed to be better at handling Majin Duu's whole shenanigans than Tamagami #1 was, probably due to his more free-spirited fighting style and experience dealing with Majin Buu.

And it seems Dr. Arinsu has pretty lofty goals to turn the Demon Realm into a force to be reckoned, albeit I don't think she'd get much success when the Gods of Destruction are a thing. Makes me wonder if she'd know about that sorta stuff, since we know Shin/Nahare didn't for the longest time.

But of course, Gomah here reminds everyone that their plans need to be put on hold since he's got the Third Eye and uses it to great effect, even making use of some neat magical powers in addition to the usual flying Ki-throwing brick that is the series' staple.

SSJ3 Goku looks off in this art style. Can't put my finger on why but both Gotenks in dbz and Goku in GT looked way better as chibi SSJ3.

I have the sneaking suspicion that the series' lack of action animators and action-specialist directors is catching up with them. Well, that and the bizarre use of animators in general.

Whoops, forgot to mention: Oonishi Ryou turning in a three and a half minute long fight is killer stuff.
