THREAD/DISCUSSION INFORMATION

Q: What is this thread?

A: This is the singular/dedicated discussion thread for Dragon Ball Daima episode 18. All content regarding this specific episode would be great to include here in this thread, rather than a dedicated / larger / all-encompassing ongoing thread. Posts that are specific to this individual episode in another thread with no relevance to the larger series or discussion taking place there will be reported and/or removed.

Q: When will this thread open?

A: This thread will be opened by a Kanzenshuu moderator when the episode is available to watch, through official channels, in its entirety.

Q: What is the history behind a [blank]-specific discussion thread?

A: We established episode-specific discussion threads beginning with Dragon Ball Kai in 2009, followed by the Dragon Ball Super television series in 2015. These episode-specific threads allowed people to discuss just that: those specific episodes, without being interrupted by other discussions regarding general production, promotion, etc. This is in contrast to, for example, other things on our website like our podcast reviews, which generally tackle story arcs as complete wholes.

Q: OK, but... so what's the point?

A: At Kanzenshuu we believe in history and preservation. It is worthwhile to future versions of ourselves and entirely new future fans to be able to dig back and find real-time reactions to specific productions (such as a specific episode or chapter). It's much easier to do this when the discussions are separated into these unique threads.

Q: When will new threads be created?

A: Threads for new/upcoming episodes will be created by a Kanzenshuu administrator at an appropriate point in time. Please do not attempt to create episode discussion threads of your own.

Q: What kinds of "sources" can we discuss?

A: You can discuss whatever you want, so long as it lives up to the community guidelines. It is recommended that you link to / discuss actual sources of information, rather than second-hand accounts. Random Twitter users are not "sources" of information. Shueisha has its own official Dragon Ball website and weekly news broadcast on YouTube, and then there is of course Dragon Ball Daima's own official website, which will in all likelihood be your actual primary sources of information leading up to an episode’s release.

Q: What if I have something to say about another episode that's not this episode?

A: Is what you have to say/ask/post even tangentially related to this episode? That's fine. Does it have absolutely nothing to do with this episode? Post it elsewhere. These episode-specific threads do not automatically close after a new episode comes out; you are free to keep discussing a specific episode for as long as you all feel like talking about it.

Q: How does this relate to [insert example here]? Why isn't [insert example here] lining up with [insert example here] from [insert example here]?

A: We don't know! We're all learning along the way! Maybe everything counts! Maybe nothing counts! Maybe only certain things count!

LET THE CANOHAOS COMMENCE

Alright alright... Well... WELL...
I don't know what to say even. This is wild, even by DB standards
Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku, I GUESS!

But for real? Animation, well... it was very effortful, but I'm not a fan of all this camera spinning and these fights of modern. I wish it was more calm and peaceful like the original SSJ4 had against Baby.

But well, sure this was an episode alright.

The cliffhanger at the end is super predictable though, good for Glorio being relevant, but Arinsu shouldn't be redeemed after trying to backstab everyone now.

2 episodes to go, Fusion is next, most likely.

Incredibly baffling episode and series overall. This felt like a watered down Heroes episode, where things just happen and transformations are gifted randomly for the sake of selling merchandise. There is no story being told here.

If Gokuu and Vegeta both have this new form by the end of the series the amount of shipping art is going to be wild. ♥♥♥

Notably, Series Director Komaki Aya only storyboarded this episode. I wonder if she's storyboarding #19-20, too? Or if she'll personally direct either of them?

I knew that was going to be the transformation and I was admittedly excited for it, but I think my hype was a little bigger than my eyes, because that was…disappointing.

Like, I knew neva’s magic was going to be the key to unlocking it, but the way it happened was just so sudden and didn’t have any of the impact at all that the transformation first had when it appeared. No foreshadowing or build up either.

I was also kind of hoping it had noticeable differences from the real thing. Pointy ears, fangs, etc? It just seems like that “full power” version you keep seeing in heroes. Plus him being a toddler makes it worse. I hope he pulls it out again when he turns into an adult.

I think the one thing I like is that the fight scene is great. A decent amount of moves and animations that I’d love to see in the games, which was more than I can say for SS3 Vegeta. That reminds me, I heard Vegeta spends the whole episode on his ass and is the only fighter that does so. I haven’t seen the whole episode but I hope that’s not the case.

Yeah, this. Golden Oozaru, and Pan working herself up to turn Goku back was emotional. This was just another one of Neva's asspulls who I guess can just do whatever at this point, breaking the canon included.

They have a Pan expy in Panzy, why not just let her do the same now? Not like they're afraid of "callbacks" at this point.

I enjoyed the Ass whooping SS3 Goku gave to Gomah and the stuff with Duu where he mimics Goku's SS3 transformation was hilarious. Goku getting SS4 was a huge surprise. But Canon SS4 looks just like Limit Breaker SS4 from DB Heroes. I guess they didn't want the hair and eyes to be 1:1 with the GT version. Still the transformation sequence of SS4 Goku was awesome and the fighting Chereography of SS4 Goku vs Gomah was good too.

Someone that speaks Namekian please translate that wish lol but I think it's pretty obvious glorio wished to reverse the child wish (especially that last word has child in it).

The Dragon Ball canon just got even more confusing lol. god I wish people hadn't ruined this ahead of time it was really over the top this week too. Even just everyone saying be careful of spoilers and all the warning, made it too obvious.

Crimson hair though I wonder why they went with that choice.

One of the most gorgeous episodes we've had even if Goku looked a little strange as SSJ3 at times. I think this episode might single handledly save Daima for a lot of people.

And yeah I'd have to agree with above post, GT did it better. Goku still magically got this full gi back when Gomah made him revert back, I guess Gomahs magic might be a factor there though.

And yes I forgot about Duus transformation. That was absolutely hilarious. I don't feel like Dragon Balls shocked me in a very long time but that did it.

Okay so i new Goku was getting a new form based on credible leaks months ago but i didn't expect it to be a copy and pasted mini version of ssj4

If he was an adult it would be a little better but again i can't take him seriously as a kid, it just screams the lack of creativity within dragonball beast gohan and now this, a canon ssj4 can they not come up with new ideas?

Also i really really dislike Gomah's powerset, we are in the demon realm with supposedly lots of magic but he's essentially a raid boss, no fancy techniques other than throwing rocks around at people then he gets even bigger. The 3rd eye should have really given him some powerful magical abilities instead of just a generic power up that makes him a giant.

Daima as a whole has been extremely disappointing

Although i am glad this episode confirmed that Super Saiyan god is canonically stronger than SSJ4

I have nothing to say except what I've already said for the past few weeks:
AliTheZombie13 wrote: Sat Feb 08, 2025 1:32 pm I'm predicting SOMETHING will usurp him soon, be that Neva suddenly revealing he was evil all along, or Arinsu stealing the DBs and making a wish to make her all powerful, or IDK, maybe Glorio will surprise everybody and become the final true last boss.

But Gomah felt very much nonthreatening this episode. That the episode was titled after him just like Degesu, or that Goku waited an entire episode to turn SSJ3, and that's not even counting the fact Vegeta didn't transform yet, is a very good indicator that he is not a threat and he will not last.
AliTheZombie13 wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2025 11:23 am20 episodes of a poor excuse of a story, with plot threads ranging from Pansy wanting to be a hero, the poor slavery conditions of the 3rd Demon Realm, Glorio struggling with his loyalties, Neva faking being senile, Arinsu apparently having much bigger plans for the Demon Realm... And it all boils down to "LOOK HOW COOL AND AMAZING AND BADASS SSJ4 IS OMFG!!!!!!! AREN'T YOU HAPPY DB FANS????!!!!!!"
And then, next episode will reveal Glorio's OMFG SUPER IMPORTANT WISH HE BETRAYED THE TEAM OMG is really just him wishing to make Goku even more powerful. This show is really not that subtle.

As always, Koo and Doo remain the one saving grace of this whole show... Too bad Doo, too, gets Goku Time'd.

So uh... Does this mean GT is canon or whatever? Or at the very least, a very similar version of GT will happen somewhere in the future of Super's continuity?

On its own, I think the episode was really fun to watch. Probably one of the coolest Daima episodes so far. The animation is amazing and I found it really funny how Doo tried to imitate Goku's transformation.
Now, how this episode affects the franchise as a whole and its implications, I don't know.

I knew SSJ4 would make a comeback in Daima, except this time, it's an asspull!

I still haven't watched single episode of Daima, but i now see kid SSJ4 everywhere so i might as well discuss what just happened.

That is kinda ironic, last thing Toriyama does before passing away is making SSJ4 canon in series he was far more involved than in Super apparently. It's ironic because of how since DBS debut there was a lot of bs spreaded by people like "Toriyama hates GT", "DBS is Toriyama's apology for GT", "Toriyama doesn't take GT into account". But then he basically creates "GT 2.0" which was a meme when Daima was announced but turned out to be true and officialy confirmed to be inspired by GT.

I just wonder what will be official name for this form. Will they stick to SSJ4? Or come up with different name? Cause original name never made sense.

This episode... completely subverted expectations for me. I never would have imagined them actually listening to fans and introducing SSJ4. Never, ever. But it begs the question, will they actually explain what that form is and how Neva managed to unlock it, or was this just random fanservice for the sake of?

As for Glorio, the last word he said was "chilldopp", which sounds like it could be referring to "child." He wished for them to be adults again. We will finally see them as adults in the next episode, I predict. I'll laugh if they never use the fusion bug.

Lastly, Gomah's form is so effing lame. I was hoping the third eye took over his body and transformed him into something cooler.

I understand it like this. If Shin and Kibito fuse at the end to keep the continuity with Super, or there is a memory wipe ending, then everything stands as before except now we know that SSJ4 exists in the Super timeline now too.

If there is no effort to keep the continuity, then Daima is a separate timeline UNTIL they mention something related to Daima in DBS were it to ever return (but that still wouldn't be Toriyama-approved now.. so also debatable.)

I loved Duu's copy SS3
But I am very annoyed Goku gets his awakening by Nvea simply giving him a power up, how underwhelming. Respect to GT for doing this much better!
I like the color scheme of the new form though, always felt red color in the hair too was better than black hair. It would have been perfect if it was Gogeta's red though, but oh well.
Of course the wish isn't going to be what Arinsu wants it to be, so it is most likely the wish Goku and co wanted; to have them returned to their adult bodies. I expected that or Gomah getting the 3rd Eye removed from him, but it doesn't mention his name, so it probably won't be.

2 episodes to go and I just want this to be over.

How powerful is Neva? This Namekian:

1) Created the Dragonballs in the Demon realm.
2) Created the Tamogami's, and can give them power ups
3) Restore other Dragonballs that are already turned to stone and activate the Dragon at his will
4) Unlock Goku's Super Saiyan 4 form, I believe he can also unlock a fighter's potential, similar to Elder Guru.

This is a sorcerer the likes of which we have never ever seen in Dragonball; no one comes that close not including the Zeno's. I wonder how they explain his absence in Super, he's super helpful during a major battle. Wouldn't be surprised if he can heal too.

GT can still exist in it's own continuity pocket, my headcanon is it's just another timeline like in Xenoverse

But...if Glorio wished for the Child Wish to be reversed, we may see Adult SSJ4 Goku

if you hate the show so much why are you commenting week after week on episode threads? If I hate something, I would ignore it entirely.
