Producer confirms Daima was made for GT fans
Re: Producer confirms Daima was made for GT fans
That doesn't make much sense, because it assumes DAIMA was made for people in their early 30s who grew up watching the show, or even specifically GT. But why does the story seem like it's meant for kids under 12? Not that GT was super mature, but at least it had some darker moments, blood, and death. But DAIMA? They even go easy on the villain's henchmen. Anyway, then he tries to explain that it's supposed to be something parents can watch with their kids, but it doesn't work like that. The premise is just too weak, and unless the ending proves me wrong, this might be the worst Dragon Ball animated series.

You can create something that appeals to kids and their adult parents who grew up on something older, too. That's what Dragon Ball Daima is doing.Noah wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2025 7:03 pm That doesn't make much sense, because it assumes DAIMA was made for people in their early 30s who grew up watching the show, or even specifically GT. It doesn't work that way, because kids nowadays use YouTube, TikTok, Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, etc. Not just on smart TVs, but also on smartphones and tablet devices. They don't watch traditional broadcast TV anymore.Noah wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2025 7:03 pm That doesn't make much sense, because it assumes DAIMA was made for people in their early 30s who grew up watching the show, or even specifically GT. And I seriously expect Gen Beta to be born with electronic devices, social media, and AI.

If its for GT fans, then why has it given fodder for people to claim that Daima proves that SSG and SSB are stronger than SSJ$?

Because it's not for people obssessed with battle power nonsense, it's for the 30-something parent introducing Dragon Ball to their kid and going, "Oh wow, I remember in Dragon Ball GT when Gokuu turned into Super Saiyan 4!!"Hulk10 wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2025 10:24 pm If its for GT fans, then why has it given fodder for people to claim that Daima proves that SSG and SSB are stronger than SSJ$?

Re: Producer confirms Daima was made for GT fans
This is for GT fans the same way Cell Max was supposed to be for Cell fans. It's not what any of the fans they claim they were pandering to wanted. Not all, but many GT fans want parts of GT's narrative/lore or GT in its entirety legitimized. This delegitimizes GT even more than Super did IMO. This was heroes-level blink and you'll miss it level pandering. Sure, ssj4 was there...OK...and now what? Does Gomah merge with the dragon to form an omega shenron look-alike next? Well GT fans, he's there! There's the guy you've been waiting for. (Again sorry if I come off as snarky or presumptuous, It's just the way I communicate)

I can't speak for all GT fans (obviously), but I literally just wanted the same plot beats and themes, but done right.Extreme_kai wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2025 11:14 pm This is for GT fans the same way Cell Max was supposed to be for Cell fans. Daima felt like it was heading that way the initial first episodes, and I was happy.

This isn't for the nerdy fans who have memorized every little thing, this is for the parent who is a casual fan who grew up on GT and is now going to tell their kid, "Woah, I saw this when I was your age!"Extreme_kai wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2025 11:14 pm This is for GT fans the same way Cell Max was supposed to be for Cell fans. I'm not saying this is perfect or anything, but it's not like they don't know who exactly they are targeting.

Re: Producer confirms Daima was made for GT fans
I don't think it was a good move, because Daima is so poorly paced it would lose both parent and child after the first few episodes. I don't buy the idea that this was made for kids and parents, because the same could be said for any of the products made after Dragonballs original airing. If I was a kid and I enjoyed the original Dragonball, young kids can enjoy that with their parents too, not whatever Daima is. I wouldn't dare to bore my children with something like Daima, they deserve better.JulieYBM wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2025 11:59 pmThis isn't for the nerdy fans who have memorized every little thing, this is for the parent who is a casual fan who grew up on GT and is now going to tell their kid, "Woah, I saw this when I was your age!"Extreme_kai wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2025 11:14 pm This is for GT fans the same way Cell Max was supposed to be for Cell fans. I'm not even really saying that I agree with the decisions that they've made, but I also just would not show my kids Dragon Ball in general lolExtreme_kai wrote: Sat Feb 15, 2025 1:00 amI don't think it was a good move, because Daima is so poorly paced it would lose both parent and child after the first few episodes. Yeah, db's not something I'd go out of my way to introduce to the kids (no matter how much they independently of db enjoy monkeys and karate). They stumble into it on their own, cool, I won't stop them, but there's plenty of newer shows and franchises out there with way less baggage.
On hiatus.

Re: Producer confirms Daima was made for GT fans
You're right I was rambling without thinking. Even the edited version is too risque nowadays. I look back at many of the 'gags' and cringe. I guess, I mean I'd show my children any other Dragonball media rather than Daima. I think Dragon Ball Z Kai would be a good starting point for a preteen-teenager. If they want to check out the original db on their own when they are a little older that would be on them. If it makes you guys feel any better, I don't have kids nor want them lol. (Sorry if I misconstrued your comment, I thought you were referring to just the og db) My Nephew got into Dandandan through his father, and I told my brother he's way too young to be watching that show.Chuquita wrote: Sat Feb 15, 2025 1:14 am Yeah, db's not something I'd go out of my way to introduce to the kids (no matter how much they independently of db enjoy monkeys and karate). *sigh*
If the most recent news and content concerning Dragon Ball has made anything clear to me it’s that someone needs to put down this old dog of a franchise because it can’t help itself from continuously pissing itself and shittng the bed.
The more I hear about Daima, the more I wish it never existed.

I’ve just lost all hope of Dragon Ball innovating. It’s clear that the franchise will never move forward.JulieYBM wrote: Sat Feb 15, 2025 2:15 amThere's a greater chance of better writing happening than the franchise being 'put down' lolLord Beerus wrote: Sat Feb 15, 2025 2:08 am *sigh*

Honestly nowadays I primarily enjoy Dragon Ball more through fan works or video games. Heck Sparking Zero did much more interesting stuff with it's what if Scenario.Lord Beerus wrote: Sat Feb 15, 2025 2:28 amI’ve just lost all hope of Dragon Ball innovating. Dragon ball actually has a lot of potential now with all the Lore expansions, more than when Z originally ended.
The problem is that Toriyama clearly didn't want to put more effort than a "casual continuation" and corporations don't get art and they are unoriginal af.
So I'll.just wait for the franchise to go to slumber after Daima (unless Toyotaro does something interesting or super 2 gets adapted) and hope that whenever it gets picked up again in the future actually DOES something fun with the franchise.
And if not.......well Legend a Dragon Ball Tale was hella fun, so I can trust the fandom in doing fun stuff
I really miss ma boy, Black
