I'm glad you almost immediately got on the fact that this movie doesn't really look like a movie, and how Battle of Gods also didn't really for most of its run. There was that special anniversary screening of Battle of Gods in cinemas here not too long ago that I went to... a week after having also watched the "movie" of the Attack on Titan finale (aka, that thing where they just took the last two TV specials that wrapped up the story, stitched them together and threw them on the big screen)... Despite AoT being specifically made for TV and just slapped into cinemas more-or-less as-is, that was far more cinematic in both its direction and animation quality than Battle of Gods. And Battle of Gods was still more cinematic than Resurrection F. RF really is just the most unimpressive-looking thing.

Also I still take pride in the fact that I came up with "Resurrection F" as a title translation independently, before that was revealed as the official title. (Mostly due to me thinking that the title is a pun on "Freeza" and "Fukkatsu" both starting with F, that it's both "Revival of F" and "The F in Fukkatsu".)

It's hard to believe that this film is already ten years old. I can't even remember 2015 lol. I think you two basically said anything I could have said, but I will say that every time I watch Gokuu jump back in and kill Freeza is so fucking hilarious to me for some reason. I think it's because of the musical cue—it just feels like a Toriyama gag accidentally brought to life.

I do wish the film had just focused more on Vegeta, though. This could have been for Vegeta what Battle of Gods was for Gokuu.

A good and through episode, guys. I appreciate that you could be blunt with the movie out of the spotlight for so long, but kept the movie in its own critical pre-Super context.

With minimum possible melodrama, there is a joke to be made that "The worst wish, the beginning of despair" did indeed come full about, for creative reasons. The movie was dead in the water for me. It was bad enough that Battle of Gods' tease of new things to come had been cast aside in the very next production, replaced with tacky new Super Saiyains and an inevitably wet noodle Freeza revival (he has to die again, this is Dragon Ball, there is no plan) before the movie even released. But then the titular "F" was wasted in both implementation and tone, and most of it didn't even look good! If a bad 90's Z movie with only Toriyama's character flourishes to its name is the best thing he could devise left to his own devices, his being lead by outside suggestions for most of the subsequent Super material makes a lot more sense, doesn't it? It's the only 21st Century movie I didn't see in theaters, there was just nothing to compel me. And I don't want to say about a Freeza movie.

Well... watching Nakao and subsequently Ayers (rest in peace) get be stars of the show and eventually lose their heads in the last act was a treat, I can't deny that!

Maybe not the best movie, but certainly an important one to set the foundation for Super - having SS Blue, Golden Frieza, Goku and Vegeta training at Beerus' Planet ... and Jaco in anime form. But yeah, interesting retrospective.

A little idea - since you guys are planning doing manga reviews of the earlier Super arcs:
What about a podcast about the "Fukkatsu no F" manga version?
- like taking a look into the 3 promotional chapters
- extra Toyo material from that time in VJUMP (I think there was one colored drawing of Frieza looking at Goku footage from Namek)
- how the events are mentioned afterwards in the DBS manga (like in U6 or Future Trunks arc)
- the reused panels in Chapter 32 (and new scenes from Frieza's perspective there as well).
- maybe "Volume F"?
- and how a DBS "Kanzenban" down the line could look like.

Just a thought. Anyway, happy having more podcasts again this year
