The voice of Vegito in the 1st Tagalog dub of Dragon Ball Z

Post by TheRed259 » Tue May 20, 2025 9:25 am

In the 1st Tagalog dub of Dragon Ball Z there is a different approach to Vegito's voice (eps. 268-273) which can not be found in any other dub in the world.

There, one line of Vegito is said by Goku's VA (Jefferson Utanes) and the other one by Vegeta's VA (Richie Padilla). Together they do only the screams and a few lines. Imagine, for example, the line "You're wrong Buu, I'm destined to destroy you", the first part being said by Schemmel (You're wrong Buu) and the second one by Sabat (I'm destined to destroy you).

A really strange approach that I don't know how to feel about it. Note that this happens only with Vegito's voice and only in the 1st Tagalog dub Dragon Ball Z and with no other fusion characters in this language. Some TV rips can be found at archive.org (Dragon Ball Z: First Tagalog Dub - Some Episodes) in case you want to check this out.

What do you think about this concept?

Not a fan of this approach, defeats the point of it being a fusion. I prefer what Ocean did in the Westwood dub by having Brian Drummond do a single voice for Vegito.

That must've been a nightmare to record.

I second DBI's opinion and yeah, not my favourite take on the character.

It'd have been more preferable they either did it like in the Ocean dub with Padilla trying to imitate Utanes or, like in German dub, get a separate voice actor whose voice has some similiarities to both Padilla and Utanes.

Yeah I think anything other than double voices like the original is just lame tbh. It's just so cool hearing both character's voices, so when dubs ruin that, I always get super disappointed.
