Dragonball Movie Update! What is UP with this?

Apparently a newspaper in Japan just published the first official look at Goku's dougi. . . . Here's the pic, though it's pretty low quality, since it's just a screen capture from the Japanese news on T.V.

I'm not too sure what to think, really. The dougi looks really nice, but the other elements of the pic (the hair, the glow-y dragon ball) are kinda cheesy. XD I mean, DB itself is cheesy and has funny hair and bright colors . . . but I thought this movie was trying to go all serious? Or maybe they're aiming for the cartoony look instead, kinda like Speed Racer.

Anyway, thoughts?

We can only hope so. A lot of the work happening right now is post-production special effects, so there might end up being a lot of Speed Racer-esque stylization going on.

Looks colorful. I don't hate it.

EDIT: If they do go the corny cartoony Speed Racer-esque route with this movie, I'll watch it simply for that alone.

Though I don't believe it'll be such on the same level as Speed Racer, I really am starting to get that kind of vibe from from the recent promotional shots. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

It's seemed to me, for awhile now, that the producers can't make up their mind, if they want something serious or something like a live-action cartoon. While this isn't wholly bad, considering being the bridge between serious and cartoony is where DB is most comfortable, I'm still skeptical.

That said, I like the Kame gi. The dragon ball needs less glow, however.

That's probably/hopefully just for promotional purposes. I'm thinking in the movie, they'll only really glow like that when gathered together.

I've looked ALL around and I guess there isn't. But the scans do look sort of promising. It's slowly getting better and better.

That haircut does look better from the back.

You can kinda see some bangs.

BTW, does anyone have a translation for the poster? (Besides the logo, obviously.

Little bits like this piss me off. They completely change my view on the movie. Every time there's a sign that the movie's gonna bomb, there's always some sort of counter attack. Damn you FOX!.

This is definitely a good look for the film. I agree with most of you, Chatwin's hair is starting to look pretty good, for a live action movie. I have to admit though, I am really missing the orange matching pants and the blue belt, but oh well, the gi still looks very nice. The other thing that kind of bugged is that the glow from the Dragonball looks a little pink, but I'm sure that's just for this poster and I'm just being nitt-picky, so long as it doesn't stay so pinkish in the film.

Looking at that poster again, I'm now wondering where Chatwin is supposed to be standing. It looks like he's in the middle of some desert wasteland. There seems to be something in front of his right foot, but I can't quite make it out.
