Dragon Ball Z dropping on Netflix in India

Post by Dragon Ball Ireland » Mon Jun 23, 2025 3:59 pm

Just announced:
Netflix is listing the Dragon Ball Z anime for release in India on July 15.
The anime premiered in April 1989 and aired for 291 episodes.

The most recent Dragon Ball franchise anime Dragon Ball Daima premiered on October 11. Crunchyroll began streaming the anime in India the same day the anime premiered in Japan. Netflix then began streaming it in India on October 16. Crunchyroll began streaming the Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu dubs of the anime on November 9. The anime ended on February 28.

The Dragon Ball Super television anime series premiered in July 2015 and aired for 131 episodes until March 2018. Cartoon Network India aired the anime in May 2022. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, the second anime film in the Dragon Ball Super franchise, opened in India in August 2022.
Apparently it's going to be Japanese with English subtitles only, which is a little disappointing as I was hoping for another chance for the old Indian dubs to be recorded, but it will be nice for sub fans in the region at least.

Nice. But I predict it'll just be either Season BD footage of DBZ or the footage used on Crunchyroll.

And speaking of the Cartoon Network Hindi dub of DBZ, it's the only non-English dub of DBZ to be based on the 1996-2003 FUNimation dub (1996-1998 FUNimation/Saban/Ocean dub (episodes 1-53/1-67) and 1999-2003 FUNimation in-house dub (episodes 54-276/68-291)), inheriting the censorship, replaced music (except for episodes 54-276 as the Hindi dub of those episodes use the Kikuchi BGM instead of the Faulconer Productions BGM), alternate SFX (episodes 1-53 only), and rewritten scripts and dialogue. I could be wrong on any of this, though.

Oh wow, that's great. Maybe a few other Asian territories will get it too?

The Hmong dub from T&T Productions is also based on the Saban dub with even more cuts, although that is an illegal production like the Albanian, Kurdish and Uyghur dubs.

Most likely Taiwan and Singapore as well. I hope they somehow include the Cantonese and Mandarin dub tracks but somehow doubt it will seeing the copyright to these audio tracks are locked into their respective TV stations.

That's unfortunate, but expected. I wonder if DEX Company still has the Thai Dragon Ball Z masters? It's probably been a long time since it aired as they dubbed Kai too.
