Great news for Spanish fans. Also nice to know that now all three of the classic anime series have Blu-Ray releases. They may not be the best, most pristine releases on the format, but still an upgrade from the DVDs at least.

It's interesting that foreign country release classic TV series, BEFORE Japan.
Toei really dropping the ball for not releasing them in Japan already; I hope original series would get Blu-ray release (HD remastered or SDBD; latter seems likely) next year for anime's 40th anniversary.

I guess that international distributors were waiting years for TOEI to do a HD remaster and just gave up, opting to do it themselves.

It only took a few years after the original series 30th anniversary for it to start seeing releases in Spain (2019), France (2022), Germany (2023) and Italy (2024).

Will be interesting to see what territories get GT on Blu-Ray next. Maybe Germany and eventually Italy since France gave up.

Although I think it's highly likely that it's an upscaled version of the Dragon Box masters, since If I remember correctly, GT was the only anime of DB that Toei didn't distribute using 16mm film copies, instead they distributed using videotapes.

It's always been bad upscales, except for the French boxes, of any Dragon Ball release. And Toei's own recent release on Hulu is bad as well.

Yeah, and probably will be completely un color corrected so.... just not worthwhile. If one NEEDS an official GT physical release, I guess the only real good options are the FUNimation singles or the Dragon Boxes.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Funimation singles were pretty poor quality, weren't they? I remember noticing the compression artifacts all the time. Seems like there's only one choice and it might be pretty rare and expensive (especially depending on where the person is).

There's also the Seed of Might option, which is both free and far superior to any official release we've gotten from these companies.

And what's that? The Japanese dragon boxes aren't really superior in quality.

Yeah, that's my route. Just saying some people really want a physical release and... we only have two options that are decent there.

I go with Seed of Might for the viewing experience but I also bought the green bricks as its important to support the industry, if you can, and they're not terrible releases, far better than any complete releases Z has had other than the Dragon Boxes.

Aren't the GT season sets supposed to be pretty decent though? They're 4:3, and aren't as heavily DNR'd as the Orange Bricks.

I know I've seen people on this forum say they're a better option than the singles, due to better encoding.

Anyway both OG DB and GT are long overdue a widely available Blu-ray release. Hopefully Crunchyroll will make it happen.

I believe there's light DNR on the green bricks (although it's barely noticeable) and they don't have the macroblocking issue the singles have. They're more cost effective and shelf friendly too.

Main advantage the singles have is the content, as you get the Japanese title cards, NEPs, and I believe the dub has its original OP and ED from Toonami so both versions are presented faithfully.

You don't get the dub with the Japanese score on the singles if that's your thing though.

I'm not a fan of Funimation's GT dub (and I've seen it in full with both the Menza and Tokunaga scores) so my choice to buy the green bricks over the singles was purely for the aforementioned convenience factor. I thought about getting the singles at times though.

They are okay but, there's still smudging of finer details, especially in dark places. I remember SSJ4 Gogeta's fur having lost all its texture.

With the 86 anime turning 40 and GT turning 30 it would be nice to see.

And we know Crunchyroll has already acquired the blu-ray Dragon Box upscale for OG Dragon Ball and mixed in with the 2001-2003 Funimation dub audio. So they just need to do a physical media release and get their hands on the one for GT

This is a major factor, particularly the shelf space. Lately I've been running out of space for my DVD/Blu-ray collection.

I personally never cared for "Step into the Grand Tour" all that much, so no big loss there. I really enjoy Funimation's cover versions of the Japanese opening/endings on the other hand, so that's another big win for the Season sets.

I'm kind of indifferent to the Menza score. I don't hate it like a lot do. There's a couple of good tracks, but it's pretty bland and forgettable overall.

I am pretty fond of Tokunaga's score though, so it's nice to be able to have it along with Funimation's cast. For Z's dub I pretty much stick to the Jonson/Faulconer scores, but for GT I gotta go with Tokunaga.

The Spanish version on TV has the same soundtrack as the Japanese version. As far as I know only the English dub changed soundtracks and music.

I think that's how most fans feel about Menza's score. It's just.... too dark for Dragon Ball, especially a series with such a nostalgic and sentimental feel to it as GT.

It isn't only the English dubs that have altered soundtracks. The Speedy Malay dubs of Dragon Ball Z movies 1-4, 6-7 and 10 used tracks from Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, and the Indian dubs of Dragon Ball Z seasons 1-2 use the Ron Wasserman score. The old English dubs are the most known for the practice though.

Never knew this. That's pretty insane. I remember the horror film Re-animator using the main theme from Psycho.

I also remember Jackie Chan's Snake in the Eagles Shadow using a track from one of the Bond films (I think it was from Thunderball).
