You're welcome to be salty about my views, but don't act like criticism isn't warranted when this release isn't going to be for many average viewers because they can't compress due to an inadequate PC or don't know how.

If you take a look at the amount of seeds and leechers this has, it's pretty much the top result for DBZ when searching for it.
But if you want to make excuses as to why this can't be for the average viewer, be my guest.

And? it's a valid complaint and quite a sizeable (pun intended) one.jjgp1112 wrote: Mon Dec 29, 2025 12:29 pmDude, your beef with this revolves entirely around storage space. That's simply the cost of wanting to put this out in the highest quality possible. With this beng a free release by the fans, for the fans...simply wat for the inevitable re-encode that will only exist because of fans taking it upon themselves to put this out in the first place.Diccolo-420 wrote: Mon Dec 29, 2025 3:53 amI'm sorry but x265 encodes are hardly butchering, this is just a misrepresentation. The whole point of what Seed of Might does is to preserve the classic era of the franchise in the highest quality possible, not necessarily reach the largest number of fans. Fans who are interested enough will either wait for someone to reduce the size, or simply find a way to download it as is. We already have Funimation butchering these series with the excuse of reaching as many people as possible, we don't need fan projects making the same mistakes.
They can literally make two releases, one for x264 and one for x265.

I could say you're just as entitled for thinking fans should automatically bow down to a release that is only capable of being enjoyed by a fraction of the audience

Re: Seed of Might: Dragon Ball Z Color Correction trailer
Ok, so that Color Correction + NR upscale has to be the best the series is ever going to look, right? I'm almost tempted to sync up the Buu saga to this footage.

They did make a 16mm model version, but I kinda liked what they had, looked very 35mm. In fact, the, I assume movie singles upscales are close in detail to the HD Toei remaster! That makes them the definitive versions for me, being open matte. The Dark Knight wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 2:01 pmI would wait a bit to see if a better upscale can be done, but as far as the original 480P version is concerned, this is indeed the best it'll ever look.DHM211 wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 1:57 pmOk, so that Color Correction + NR upscale has to be the best the series is ever going to look, right?

As stated earlier in the thread, I am in the midst of upscaling this release to mostly great results.
Very close to the level of detail found on the Selecta blu-rays much (though not all) of the time except mine still looks like a cel-animated production photographed on film instead of some digipaint monstrosity.
Will try and post comparison pics soon as I continue finessing and perfecting the workflow. Every episode has shots that need a little extra TLC to look their best, and as such it takes me a day or two to fully polish each one.
Thinking it will likely take 3-6 months to fully produce an HD version of the entire series that meets my personal high standards. Or least worthy of sharing with others.
I do have a Discord account but am rarely on the platform.Trickster wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 11:09 pm Do you have any news about your upscale? A discord server or anything that we can follow?
Will likely confine updates to this forum for now, eventually making my own thread once the first “level” nears completion.
PS what is the best method of linking/sharing images here?

Complaining about a free labor of love having too big of a file size is not actual criticism. A critique would be about the colors, the encoding quality, the subtitles, etc, not "This isn't convenient enough for me to illegally pirate the show." File size is a take it or leave it thing.Diccolo-420 wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 5:28 pm

Imagine somebody nabbed a shipping truck full of furniture and was giving the haul away for free, and somebody walks to wherever they set up shop complaining that the couch is too big for their pickup truck and demanding they cut them down to size. Better hope them dudes ain't got guns.
And like, you'd have something if they released this in shit quality and expected fans to make a better version, but what youre doing is basically complaining that a PS5 game doesn't have a PS4 version too.
"Your audience" doesn't apply to this. Seed of Might are not a licensor distributing something for sale. They are fans. The "audience" are their peers, not customers. They did work on their own time for free and put it out for free. They're not doing what Funimation and Toei are doing, demanding we pay for shoddy releases when they could put out a product they'd buy, instead basically leaving it up to fans to do their own projects like this. The file size isn't a flaw, but a consideration that fans have to make if they're choosing this alternative.
It's other fans' prerogative to make a lower quality version of this release just like it was Seed of Might's prerogative to pour at least seven years of their lives into this shit to begin with. The "work" was done when they exported episode 291. That's it. Anything else is up to whoever wants it enough.
There's no Better Business Bureau for Boosters. You want free shit to fit your capacity, you either make it fit or you don't. And given the nature of this space, somebody will and thus everybody will be happy. This is a community.

As has been the case when sticks and rocks and leaves were the only products around, YOUR capacity is YOUR problem, not the problem of the one handing it out. Anybody who wants what this release was intended to be either has the space or is willing to make it.Diccolo-420 wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 7:43 pmAll I read from this yap was just gatekeeping because you don't like criticism and therefore are discounting whatever you don't like.jjgp1112 wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 6:43 pmComplaining about a free labor of love having too big of a file size is not actual criticism. More cherrypicking, maybe you just don't like it and therefore don't want to count it as criticism?
Nice way to discount anything just to satisfy your own views.
Most of y'all just don't like criticism and either insult me for it or just say it's not criticism, straight comedy over here.
"Imagine demanding your audience to do the work for you, especially since they may not actually have the means to do it"
Imagine somebody nabbed a shipping truck full of furniture and was giving the haul away for free, and somebody walks to wherever they set up shop complaining that the couch is too big for their pickup truck and demanding they cut them down to size.
If you want to do all that mental gymnastics that's fine, I've presented my case and this just reads you're upset because I'm providing a valid criticism of a release that is noted as a top release for DBZ and how many people might not get access to it.
"You put it out in the best quality possible" isn't a critique.
If shrinking this down to something less then what it is soooo easy, then get off here and look at the final frame of a Nike ad if youre unsure of step 2.

This is literally gatekeeping in a nutshell, and a strawman fallacy to add to boot. All I did was say this is too much of a size problem, y'all attacked me for it. I'm just here defending my viewpoint meanwhile you guys have done nothing to prove me wrong other than ad hominem or cherrypicking and gatekeeping.jjgp1112 wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 8:14 pmBrother you can't gatekeep something that's FREE. Size is a huge issue in general, there are others outside of this echo chamber that have said the same thing.
If you can't handle criticism of something that isn't even yours, maybe you should consider whether the internet is for you.

Re: Seed of Might: Dragon Ball Z Color Correction trailer

Okay... this is something that legitimately disappoints me... I don't know if they used Toei's BD release for movie 8, or if the streaming versions also "corrected" the animation errors too, but seeing the animation error where Piccolo's left hand was not drawn not being intact... kinda is a bit disappointing to me on a preservation standpoint.
