Seems like a Remaster more than a Remake, the angles and shots were the same as the old anime, just better animated, it's like what they did with that one One Piece arc

Was it really necessary to make Battle of Gods for the third time?
What else can it really contribute that it hasn't already done in the movie and Super?

It's an enhanced edition, not a full on remake, it's like what they did with One Piece Fishman Island

It makes sense.
Old Super looks like shit at the start. And they want new fans caught up before Super 2 comes back. It makes sense commercially to do this.

This is indeed a remaster, rather than a full remake, as it's being called an enhanced, reconstructed edition. This will very likely be a shorter version that cuts out the filler like material.

Where are you guys getting this remake stuff from?
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Well, you were right! Which I don't mind. If anything, I don't need to go back and watch the terribly animated Super! So, I guess all of you saying the remake/remaster wasn't happening were wrong. And as I've said for a while now since the DBS remake rumors started, I don't mind a Super remake/remaster. I kind of think it's needed. It's been almost a decade since Super ended and more than a decade since it started! If you want to bring new fans on board, you kind of having to redo Super to lead into the Moro arc, which almost certainly isn't coming until 2027/2028 now.The Dark Knight wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 10:57 pmWe still have one announcement, so it could still happen. Considering One Piece is getting a movie and seasonal anime this year, and Moro is getting adapted next year, what else could it be ? I doubt we're getting a new Dragon Ball movie with all that in production.mecha3000 wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 10:52 pm Well, I'm glad they're not doing a DBS remake because this means I can binge Super (manga and anime) in its entirety because I've never exactly done that before.
Also, they were SMART to lead with the Galactic Patrol announcement.

LOL well.. this complicates things.
Hopefully Moro arc is 2027 and not like 2029.

The livestream. And it's an enhanced edition, not a remake

Better animation and even flashier fights, of course! But the question is, can you sit through yet another batch of retellings? Can you endure Universe Survival saga for another entire year!?M16U3L2015 wrote: Sun Jan 25, 2026 12:19 amWhat else can it really contribute that it hasn't already done in the movie and Super?

The original Super anime is so ugly, so I'm glad that they're giving us a shorter, better looking version that can lead directly into Moro. Leave the original Super anime in the trash can of history where it belongs.mecha3000 wrote: Sun Jan 25, 2026 12:23 amIf anything, I don't need to go back and watch the terribly animated Super! Iyoku said that there would be new animations and rreshoot all cuts, in addition to making a version more faithful to Toriyama's draft.
Honestly, it's a waste of resources, and having better animation is not enough justification.

According to Ajay, the Resurrection F arc will be getting the same remaster treatment and both arcs will last 6 episodes

This will likely only be half as long as the original Super run, so the tournament won't be anywhere near as long as it originally was.Grimlock wrote: Sun Jan 25, 2026 12:26 amBetter animation and even flashier fights, of course! Yeah at this point Demon Slayer, One Piece, and Naruto might as well be “the big three”Scsigs wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 11:48 pmOne Piece is at a level of fandom in the US that rivals Naruto, imo.WittyUsername wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 11:08 pm One Piece’s popularity in the states has been picking in the years since the 4kids dub ended, but I don’t know if it’s on the level of stuff like Dragon Ball and Naruto over here.
Yeah I imagine a Funimation dub of One Piece circa 2004 would have been approached the same way they did original Dragon Ball and Yuyu Hakusho faithful in its presentation but heavily reworked in its dialog to be “funnier” and appeal to a “broader audience” this was still the Barry Watson era of Funimation.(thank fuck. I can only imagine the unfortunate timeline where FUNi got it over 4Kids & that wasn't there to make sure FUNi could change anything in terms of the dialogue. 1 of the biggest strengths of the FUNi One Piece dub is how accurate it is to the original dialogue.
And, like someone else said, the Netflix series did a LOT to bring on new fans for the brand. It was talked about for a while after it came out because of how good it was. With the anime also being on Netflix, I assume a lot of people started watching the anime after they finished the live action series. 2020 also allowed more people to get into it, since a lot of people found themselves with a lot of free time on their hands due to COVID.
It took a bit of time because Toei & 4Kids fucked it up the first time, but the franchise is pretty big over here.
Yeah, anecdotal of course, a buddy of mine got into The One Piece anime because of the Netflix series. I have no idea how common that was but I don’t know how popular the live action series would have been if the anime series wasn’t already a popular IP.

That's perfect, as a streamlined version of the events will go a long way in improving everything. I can't wait to see how long the U6, Zamasu, and Tournament of power end up being.Lord Beerus wrote: Sun Jan 25, 2026 12:28 am According to Ajay, the Resurrection F arc will be getting the same remaster treatment and both arcs will last 6 episodes

They should start with Champa's arc. For Battle of Gods, there's the movie if animation is a problem for people. The Dark Knight wrote: Sun Jan 25, 2026 12:27 amThe original Super anime is so ugly, so I'm glad that they're giving us a shorter, better looking version that can lead directly into Moro.
