Episode #0138! VegettoEX, Meri, and Julian discuss the upcoming DBGT boxsets from FUNimation with godofchaos, and then dive in to a large batch of e-mails. Future boxsets, character ages, Japanese honorifics, dramatic effect for the sake of dramatic effect... we cover it all. Referenced sites:
Go ahead and grab it. Big thanks to godofchaos for hosting the kinda nice *one-hundred-thirty-eight* episodes, now.

Huh. Go figure. Another attempt at a short episode ends up being a regular-length episode. It's impossible for us to not provide valuable content! :D

Another great episode but you guys never said what you thought of The Dark Knight !
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

Ah just what I needed to help me sleep tonight. (Not saying you're boring but there is nothing on T.V and noise helps me sleep). I'll come back with my opinion in the morning.

Mike, about that XBOX:

Whatever good things can be said about the 360, the customer service is terrible. If the other person is a horrible idiot and/or has the thickest accent you've ever heard.

It took me a couple weeks to even get somebody to send me the freaking box to send the 360 back to me. It took about four weeks longer than they predicted to get back. Now, I have to give it to them, the one I got back does work.

But I worked with them for months after months to get my digital purchases re-validated. I didn't get anything done until they finally automated the process. Make sure to use the robot process rather than calling customer support, the robot is a million times better. The robot can do in like, five minutes what it takes the support team more than half a year to NOT do.

With the Funi GT boxset, it’s worth pointing out that the Japanese singles release also had SSJ4 Goku on the cover from the very start, far before he actually appears, and on pretty much every cover. So it’s not just something unique to the American release.
On Fake Namek: I actually kind of enjoyed that part, though I had already read the manga and so I knew it was all fake from the start, so that probably helped. The funny thing is I think Fake Namek is much more interesting a planet than actual Namek, simply because the geography is much more varied. With the real Planet Namek, every single place on it looks exactly like every other place. After awhile it drives you crazy. It’s one of the things I really don’t like about that whole arc. At least on Fake Namek they have forests, swamps, mountains and deserts. And I thought that forest of birds was cool.

On Goku being able to teleport back from Kaio’s planet: while he and Kaio may talk for a minute in the anime, in the manga Cell pretty much explodes right away. As Julian points out, Goku needs some amount of time to focus when he teleports long distances, even though the movement itself is instant. Manga-wise it doesn’t seem like he has enough time to do that.

Yeah, but even if it wouldn't be so in the manga would you expect Goku to teleport back and let Kaio die along with his planet and apologize later or would he rather go down with the ship.
And maybe Goku had already decided that him dying and staying in Other World would be best for earth? At least, that is what I like to think.

I really hate all of this. It makes no sense. Goku should have been able to save King Kai and himself. Theres plenty of examples where he didn't take time to focus to use the technique. For example, when he took Roshi's sunglasses. Or during the Cell fight. In general, I don't like Instant Transmission, because it makes no sense when Goku doesn't use it in the most practical situations. Like when he sends Trunks to get the radar. Or when he flies towards Goten, Trunks, Piccolo
and Gohan (to save them from Buu), and plans to use Instant Transmission.
And maybe Goku had already decided that him dying and staying in Other World would be best for earth?
This bugs me too. For one thing, not everyone was after Goku. And even if they were, its because they were already villains in the first place. In which case, Goku can't be blamed, since he had to be there to stop them the first time. But also, since characters like Android 16 were created to kill Goku because of things Goku has done in the past, it seems a little late for Goku to "stay out trouble" now, since there would probably be more guys after revenge in the future. It seems like Goku is just heading off into the sunset, and leaving a huge problem behind for everyone else to deal with.

Having said all that, I accept the reasoning behind all of this; dramatic effect.

I like to think he figured this out for himself during the Buu saga. He was kinda proven wrong when he had to be bought back to life.

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and i have one question i would like to ask.

In this podcast (Episode #0138) it was said that the new dragon ball gt season one trailer was available on the Dragon Ball Z: Bardok/Trunks Double Feature on Blu-ray dvd as an extra. Would it be possible for someone who owns this dvd to post the dragon ball gt season one trailer online (on youtube maybe) since there is no trailer available for the public to view (not including the one filmed at the Anime Expo).

The reason i am asking this is because i would like to view the trailer with sound and not with people talking over it.

Thanks Dean.

Kame-sennin was at least on the same planet, and Cell had gigantic ki and was very close to Goku already, so it probably wouldn't take him much time to lock on to him. On the other hand, Kaio is all the way in the afterlife, and his ki is not very strong compared to the main charactes at this point. When Goku teleports to Kaio's planet while looking for New Planet Namek, he needs to focus for a whole panel (muttering "Kaio-sama...Kaio-sama"), and when he teleports Cell there he's again shown focusing for a panel.

Doesn't Goku charge up or do something before getting Roshi's glasses? I thought I remembered him having some aura or electricity around him for a few seconds before going.

Another great episode with just about two topics. I just have one question about the GT boxsets: If GT was full screen would anyone buy it anyway? FUNimation knows GT isn't there popular franchise, so are they banking on everyone wanting full screen and therefore buying it? It all seems too similar to the "lost episodes".

One more unrelated question. How many of the DBZ sets are there supposed to be? I keep hearing 8, but that doesn't seem possible with Cell Games being 6.

By the episode numbers and saga-grouping trends so far, it's looking like a total of nine sets. GT's going to have two, and DragonBall would fit in about five.

I would eventually buy it if it was 4:3, though I'm pretty doubtful that it will be in 4:3 seeing how the DBZ sets weren't. The good thing is, that I bet that if they do release the GT sets in full screen that they will eventually also re-release the DBZ sets in full-screen, though sadly that wouldn't happen for at least another 5+ years, if ever.

Here you can read about a lot of other people opinions on the GT sets and whether or not they would buy them and what it would take for them to buy them: http://db.schuby.org/daizex/viewtopic.php?t=8208

There should be nine sets released in all. I'm assuming that the last one will be delayed from it's assumed release date of Sept. 2009 to Nov./Dec 2009, since it will probably be the most popular set and Funi will probably want it on the shelves for the holiday season.

Here you can look through what sagas are left and try and guess which sagas will be put on which of the three remaining sets: http://www.daizex.com/guides/dvd_guide/dbz_tv/
