The more series that become exclusive to streaming, the more often I'll be running into captains Jack Sparrow and Edward Kenway.

I just hope this doesn't mean that whenever Crunchyroll releases the new delayed versions of the box sets, they're not inferior to the ones released this week. At least, the few that were released this week. Ridiculous. I mean, I get issues come up, but this type of thing never really happened with Funimation before it got swallowed up by Crunchyroll. And apparently, now it's being released on JULY 3RD!!! If that's true, WHAT THE HELL???
Like I said, I remember this happening a couple years back with one of the One Piece two-in-one collection sets. The discs were the correct discs, but they had the labels for the "Voyage" sets on them instead of the "Collection" labels, which was noticed by the few people who managed to get a copy before they were held back. When the set eventually did come out, they started by shipping out whatever stock they already had, so the version I got had the incorrect labels on them. It seems like a safe bet that, whenever Daima actually ends out shipping out for everyone, they're gonna clean out the old stock first with whatever's wrong with it.

Assuming you're talking about Collection 30, I ordered it 2 1/2 years after it was originally released and received one with the Voyage labels. Maybe I was just 'unlucky', or maybe they never actually corrected that? I know that there was a similar case with Amazon UK a few years ago, when a Doctor Who set had disc labels for the wrong season (so the listed episodes were incorrect, unlike the One Piece example) and the publisher definitely did a stock recall, but Amazon sent the bad sets out anyway. Probably because Amazon is so maddeningly automated at this point.

This Reddit post says that "discs one and three were stacked on each other", so I guess that Disc One wasn't actually placed in a hub before it was sealed? Maybe that production issue caused the delay?

Man, if I had a nickel for every time a disc was floating around the case when I opened it...

I wonder if this is a Toei specific issue, since Solo Leveling season 2 is still set to come out in a couple weeks, but we've heard absolutely nothing about future One Piece sets after the ninth Wano set.

The sad thing is that even before this delay and Crunchyroll's piss poor home release selections/schedule, I had problems with their last big Dragon Ball complete series release - the Dragon Ball Super steelbook gift set back in 2022. I preordered from Crunchyroll's site MONTHS IN ADVANCE and for some strange reason, my steelbook set didn't arrive until like two weeks later than promised. Meanwhile, some randoms on Amazon who ordered it like two days before release got theirs on release day. And when my steelbooks came, they were damaged and the discs had scratches. So, I tried to return them and the process was SO COMPLICATED. Crunchyroll's return service is terrible and takes so long to get back to you, unlike Amazon. That was a learning lesson for me and ever since then, I don't even bother ordering from Crunchyroll's website anymore. Sure enough, when the YYH 30th box set with the new OVA released, I ordered it directly from Amazon and it came on release day.

Sorry for the rant, but basically, I'm not surprised Crunchyroll messed this release up. Again, if they decide to not release Dragon Ball physical media anymore in the future, I won't even be too upset about it because of how Crunchyroll has handled their releases for the past few years. In fact, how awesome would it be if the Japanese Blu-rays came with an English subtitle track like SAND LAND did? That way, even if Crunchyroll stops Dragon Ball home releases, at least, we can buy the Japanese releases. It'd be even better if they somehow could even include the English dub track, but that's wishful thinking, especially because the Japanese releases come before the international ones.

I'm actually surprised Japanese home releases don't come with more subtitle tracks, as they don't take up much space and would result in more international sales.

Yeah, it would definitely boost their sales and I'm honestly thinking, there's a possibility of it happening. Akio Iyoku was the one who pushed for the SAND LAND (feels right capitalizing it) movie to even get made, so if he's the one who pushed for Super: Beerus (and beyond) to get made, it only makes sense to also include English subs on those releases too. I don't know if Toei did the Sand Land movie, though, so I don't know the logistics of the whole thing.

Still, assuming Crunchyroll lets us down and either messes up future releases or abandons physical media entirely, it'd at least be nice to have Japan's home releases of stuff like Super: The Galactic Patrol and Super: Granolah the Survivor (whatever it would be called) to fall back on.
