Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

RoF, to me, is the worst movie of the entire franchise.
I disagree. I watched it last night and found it very different from what I remembered.

It has a decent amount of humor, the fights aren’t boring, and it deviates from Broly’s second movie’s formula of having the kids fail and an adult save them. The antagonist is a petty guy with funny motivations, however, he’s against Bio-Broly killing a kid, he's already better than one country that shall remain nameless.

Bio-Broly is basically SS Broly with some weird powers, it’s not that bad. He’s defeated with brains, not brawn, which is awesome. And then there’s another problem with that slime that absorbs Bio-Broly, and water being the key was very nice.

I was pleasantly entertained. I was so wrong.

I myself thought it was a nice touch how the conflict in the movie was resolved through something other than brute force, but I can see why the typical Dragon Ball fan would find that to be lame.

I don't really mind Gokuu and Gohan not doing anything in the film, since they already got to fight Broly again in Movie 10.

Vegeeta and Piccolo were absent from Movie 10, though, so they definitely should've appeared here. Replace Kurilin and No.18 with them for sure. I'd do away with Mr. Satan altogether. You can keep Goten and Trunks; it's only their second time fighting a form of Broly here.

Maybe this movie could've referenced Vegeeta being corrupted by Bobbidi in some way? One of the Bio fighters could've been a clone of Vegeeta a la Copy-Vegeeta. But eh, I'd rather Vegeeta himself be the protagonist of the movie. I mean, why not let Vegeeta kill the main villain for a change? It's only for a non-canon movie, anyway. Throw Vegeeta fans a bone.

I haven't seen Movie 11 in forever, but here's what I remember about it:

-Trunks learning the word bioengineering and excitedly showing off that he knows the word and its' definition to Goten.
-18 repeatedly charging Mr. Satan money to save him over the course of the film.
-Kuririn cosplays as Piccolo with no explanation as to why.
-The village shaman antagonist from Movie 10 is a side character helping the Movie 11 bad guys.
-Bio-Brolli dies from being doused in saltwater?

I don't like Movie 11 much, and I can't see myself ever watching it again, but I can't argue it isn't memorable.

That one actually happens in Movie 10.

I did think about that when I was typing, wasn't 100% sure if it was 10 or 11. I normally double-check these things, but tried to rely solely on memory for this one.

Just means I'll make sure next time.

Shows how 10 & 11 bled into one another for me I guess.

I'm pretty sure that Kuririn dressing up as Piccolo was Koyama or Yamauchi making fun of the trope of Piccolo showing up to save Gohan.

Movies 10 and 11 are definitely more closely connected to one another than they are to Movie 8. I prefer Movie 11 though because it feels more focused and it actually does something different with Broly. Also, the B-movie vibes are kinda fun and again, the way the conflict is resolved is pretty unique for Dragon Ball.

Anyway, yes, Kuririn dressing up as Piccolo was definitely Koyama being self-aware about the fact that he kept having Piccolo save Gohan in the previous movies.
