It's probably just a generic mantra for himself to keep faith. There's no way Shueisha would let him be coy about the return of the comic if a return was being planned.

This was a little more than generic, as he outright says the series is returning. If I had to guess what's going on, I would say the manga's return was planned to be announced when he put this up, but for whatever reason, a last minute delay happened behind the scenes and he wasn't informed of the change.

It would be nice to have a final hurrah with a Black Freeza arc and bring things to a close for real, but I wouldn't hold my breath on the manga returning.

Even so, would they be able to stick the landing? I'd be mildly worried about that.

I'll still welcome the manga back, I really miss having fresh stories, even though it's so late.
On hiatus.

They made a point to say it's on hiatus, not cancelled.

"Everything is for the return of the series." is not outright saying the series is returning.

He could’ve pretty much just nodded to the series returning in fall with Super Beerus (coming “fresh” of Genkidamatsuri). I believe that’s the case, as the statement is so vague, it can be anything and nothing at the same time.

While it def means that the franchise is returning into full mode - tv show on air, video games/promo, some staying power in subsequent media - we’ll see if the manga is returning as well as it doesn’t have to.
But would be fun, if they did with the manga what they did with Super and complete and insert Ressurection F and Broly arcs in
FighterZ, Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat: Funky_Strudel
PS5: Dynamixx88

I certainly hope it will return in full force and that Toyotaro will be working with a skilled editor. If he does, I believe it could be better than what him and Toriyama did together before.

According to Geekdom, things are happening with the manga behind the scenes, so it shouldn't be much longer before it's back.

I'd trust just about anyone else before him, tbh. If anyone else more reputable can provide confirmation on that, then by all means.
Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.

There's not really a date for the manga returning, right?

No. Absolutely nothing has actually been stated on-the-record about it.

V-Jump continues to run (every single month) a tiiiiiiiiiny little "Dragon Ball Super will be on hiatus next issue" blurb in each next-issue-preview, even as of the latest issue.

This is actually good news for the manga, as going out of their way to remind people on a monthly basis that it's just on break means there's real intentions to bring it back eventually. If I had to guess, I'd say they're taking their time in order to plan things out properly and overall do things right; that's basically what they're doing with the anime now.

I do wonder if they will revive the manga later down the road, as we'll go to the Galactic Patrol series and they might again pull the "manga caught up and will influence future anime outings" PR card again.

But going year and half with tiny hiatus blurp, you might cancel it right away as it creates unnecesary anticipation and people will just give up.
Which is funny concept, because you can basically say nothing and when you release something Dragon Ball again, people will jump in anyway, just because it is Dragon Ball. But these hiatuses are insane in general.

In case of Saint Seiya Next Dimension, the author hiatusing because of health and after two decades, finishing the story abruptly and going nowhere with it and stating that we are still not where we should have been right away after Hades arc, people gave up. Next Dimension is waste of time. And insane development hell story on top of that - he also chose different authors to continue the legacy, but in comparison to Toyotaro with Super manga, it's mostly spin-offs recycling the same story arcs and beats from original show (and not like you would think, complete with the same characters like Poseidon or Hades), while the main story arc goes nowhere and the series is unfinished, with ton of spin-offs concluded over the years. Seiya is basically dead after being struck by Hades, end of story.

Dragon Ball still fares better than most of the legacy series, complete with the crap home releases.
