Non-thread-worthy discussions
Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
Actually, I've always seen it the other way around.
Messi was the one who started with a handicap, much like Goku. His growth hormone deficiency is somewhat comparable to Goku being raised on a planet with only 1G. He had to overcome that disadvantage and work his way up just to reach the same physical baseline as everyone else, and still be called a midget, lol.
The whole narrative that Messi just coasts through his career without putting in any effort is nonsense. It mostly comes from people who have no idea what it takes to be not just a professional athlete but an elite one.
Also, more than anything else, it's their personalities that make Messi the Goku of the story and Cristiano its Vegeta, at least in my opinion. The Cell Games had Goku do what Cristiano won't do for the sake of his team: recognize when someone else is better suited for the job and step aside.

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
I'm actually surprised Messi is playing this time around considering he won the cup for his country 4 years ago; that would have been the perfect time to retire from international events. I do believe his legacy is secure, but I can't help but wonder if his reputation will be slightly hurt if Argentina doesn't at least make it to the finals.
To bring things back to Dragon Ball; I feel the same way about Toriyama, some of the animators like Yamamoru, and the voice actors; they all should have walked away once the original run of the series wrapped up back in the 90s. Toriyama's writing was nowhere near the level it was back when he was writing the manga, the voice actors in a lot of instances feel like they're phoning it in, and Yamamoru's reputation has been destroyed since this revival era began. I think a Dragon Ball product set after Z, made up entirely of new writers, voices, and animators, would have been far better than what we ended up with. Modern DB, for the most part, feels less like a product made by people who still have something worth contributing to the series, and more like people trying to recapture their glory days but failing miserably at it.

With the next WC being in Spain and Portugal, I imagine Ronaldo will want to play. He'd probably just embarrasshimself tbh but Ronaldo gonna Ronaldo.
I'm guessing this forum is aware that Halaand is constantly being compared to Super Buu?

My Floridian relatives told me that there is 3 noodle bars themed around dragon ball called Soupa Saiyan. I wish i could go but I can't afford to fly to Florida at the moment so I thought I'd share this info with y'all. https://soupanoodlebar.com/locations/

The crowds at the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai were martial arts fans. They knew who Muten Roshi was. I think that's neat. After that, those crowds were frauds. They didn't care about any of the fighters except him (edit: by him I mean Mr. Satan).

Sorry, my bad. yes, it's Mr. Satan. I wrote something that explicitly stated his name. Deleted that sentence then finished the post. In my mind I wrote that crowds stopped caring about martial arts after Mr. Satan become a celebrity and won his first Budokai.Kid Buu wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2026 2:51 pmWho is him? I've always seen it that the Budokai declined in popularity after the 23rd. Though Mr. Satan becoming the "guy who beat Cell" helped rejuvinate interest to it.ABED wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2026 3:16 pmSorry, my bad. yes, it's Mr. Satan. More like there was such a long hiatus after Piccolo blew up the island that when it came back, it came back to a whole new audience.

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
Muten Roshi last won the tournament DECADES before the 21st TB. Few in that audience saw it, but they still knew of the reputation of him being the master of martial arts, so much so that when Goku and Kuririn tell the Tournament Announcer that they were trained by him, they immediately accepted why they had the goods. I get the humor that comes from it, but even in a fictional scenario, the audience having no knowledge of what they are watching bums me out. I also like the more intimate version of the Tenkaichi Budokai arenaDanielSSJ wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2026 9:42 pm More like there was such a long hiatus after Piccolo blew up the island that when it came back, it came back to a whole new audience.

It reflects what happens when a niche interest suddenly goes mainstream and loses its original identity.ABED wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2026 2:40 pm The crowds at the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai were martial arts fans. Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
When do you guys think they'll reveal new Japanese VA for Majin Buu?
I'm glad Mr. Kozo managed to record his lines for Xenoverse 2's last DLC.

Probably next month or early September; right before the Super remake airs.Zinnia wrote: Mon Jul 13, 2026 12:51 pmWhen do you guys think they'll reveal new Japanese VA for Majin Buu?
