That's common assignment made based on where the anime was at around the movie's release. Technically the same can be done for these:

6: Z-Senshi defeat Android 19 and Gero in time to prevent the awakening of 17, 18 and 16. Cell likely doesn't show up as well.
7: Piccolo defeats 17, 18 and somehow 16 and Cell too. Or, Goku and Piccolo team up with the Androids to defeat Cell and everything goes well later, just like that one Sparking Zero what if.
10 & 11: Babidi & Dabura are defeated and the plan to awaken Boo is successfully stopped just like in Mirai Trunks' timeline. Goku returns to Afterlife.
12: Gotenks defeats Super Boo. (Could be Ultimate Gohan too, but it was released prior to Ultimate Gohan in the anime)

1, 2 and 3 are a bit harder to work it, but you can imagine scenarios for them too, like the one I mentioned before about Goku arriving in time to help against Vegeta and Nappa before nearly the entire Z-Senshi was defeated. Sparking Zero what ifs already give a few such as Goku going to Namekusei and Vegeta defeating Freeza, could work with 2 and 3 I think.
I imagine DBZ Movie 1 took place in a universe where Raditz spaceship got hit by a comet and he died before coming to Earth.

Head canon it!

The things you're not thinking of.
1. If Goku killed Freeza with the Spirit Bomb, he wouldn't have gone Super Saiyan because Freeza wouldn't have killed Krillin. While I think it's fair to assume the writers of the movie went with "What if Freeza actually died on Namek," I don't think that's how they envisioned it.
2. Dende being God of Earth fucks with Gohan's age. Gohan is still as old as he is before he went to train with Goku in the Time Chamber which is impossible because Goku didn't go to New Namek & come back with Dende until after that happened. If Dende is God, then Gohan should be 11, taller, & have shorter hair than beforehand, as well as should to be able to go Super Saiyan/already be SS (same with Goku here). And on top of that, Trunks should be with them. Even if Vegeta didn't go with them to New Namek, Trunks would've, I would assume. Vegeta should also be able to go Super Vegeta &...

This would make sense. The ages of the characters would roughly line up & the ones who were dead being alive again would make sense since they'd be able to go back to Earth & wish them alive again.

Every other movie takes place in some weird timeline where certain events played out differently so they could happen. Not a lot of the movies were designed to actually logically take place in the regular timeline of the show.
The intent changes depending on the period you look at. To me it’s pretty clear that they didn't intend for the Anime to engage with movie content up until the end of the Freeza Saga, but the anime affecting the Movies only. It changes starting from the Garlic Jr. Arc though, and saying that this arc takes place in a different timeline is quite hasty considering that Maron shows up in the Android arc and Haiya Dragon as well. So at least Movies 1 and 3 were being considered at this point.
You can say that 2 and 4-13 are in different timelines indeed, but with 1 and 3 specifically it's complicated, so the easy headcannon for it is that unseen alternate versions of the Tullece and the 1st Garlic Jr. events happened in the anime continuity.

Also, Movie 1 in particular is a peculiar case, because there are things that suggest it was originally supposed to work differently, actually, the same way the 3 first DB movies and the 1996 movie did, which were about telling stories that were parallel versions of the events seen in the anime / manga, with different lore and characters.
What I mean is that Garlic Jr. and his henchmen, plus his backstory with Kami were intended to be a replacement for the Raditz events in the “Movie continuity”.
I say this because unlike the other 12 Movies, which all address elements or at least something seen in the anime / manga only, Movie 1 has absolutely nothing referencing Raditz or anything from Saiyajin lore.
It has Gohan at best and that's it, so I interpret it as that this movie was supposed to be a direct continuation to the Majunior Saga and it replaces the Raditz event.

Then with Movie 2 they dropped the idea, and then the Garlic Jr. saga came and pretty much soft-rebooted that original idea behind Movie 1 so it could fit into the anime continuity (even though they didn't care about the contradictions)
Well, not really. Dead Zone definitely acts like an alternate beginning to Z, but the filler arc in Z that they made as a sequel to it was pretty much made so they could let the manga get ahead enough so they could adapt the new chapters at a better pace since the end of Namek slowed to a fucking crawl. They were allowed to do anything that fit within the world they'd already established & they chose to make an arc sequel to that movie. Icarus was included because they'd already put him in 2 movies, so fuck it, why not? The arc makes much more sense to take place int he movie timeline as opposed to the show's anyways since it always felt like it should've just been a movie rather than a filler arc of the show. I genuinely don't think many of the movies were intended to take place in the timeline of the show. They'd also just come off of 3 DB movies that were just alternate retellings of the arcs from the show with higher quality animation & some remixed or changed elements, which is semi the formula they used for most of the Z movies, but influenced by the actual timeline of the show &/or manga.
Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.

Was this from a convention? Did anyone ask them if theres any update on a French dub of Daima?

This was not from a convention.

In any case, judging by an interview Philippe Ariotti gave a few days ago, he doesn't seem to know anything.

I thought Lord Slug was supposed to take place before the Namekian saga, although it doesn't fit neatly there either, since Goku is supposed to be in the hospital after his fight with Vegeta, which is why he didn't come with the others to Namek in the first place. King Kai acts like Goku's "Super Saiyan" transformation is something he hadn't seen before. Of course, the design is different, because we hadn't seen it in the anime yet and they had to guess. But if Goku had already defeated Frieza as a Super Saiyan, King Kai wouldn't be speculating on if Goku's transformation in Lord Slug was the legendary Super Saiyan form.

The Super Saiyan transformation was as it was in Lord Slug because when they were animating it, Toriyama hadn't finalized the design for the manga, not because it hadn't been int he anime yet.

Toriyama includes two references to volleyball in Dragon Ball (Tien vs Goku in the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai and SSJ3 Gotenks vs Super Buu). I don't remember any other sports referenced during a fight throughout the series. Did Toriyama play volleyball?

Not a fight but Toriyama did suggest Yamcha playing baseball.

There was a scene of Cell killing American Football or Rugby players, though I'm not sure if that was in the manga.

I always believe in this idea. My idea on the alternate timelines that DBZ Movies 1-13 take place

DBZ Movie 1: Raditz never came to Earth. Either he got hit by a comet or didn't know that Goku was there.
DBZ Movie 2: Piccolo survived his attack from Nappa and Goku finished off Vegeta
DBZ Movie 3: Goku came in time to save everyone from Nappa and Vegeta
DBZ Movie 4: Piccolo killed Freeza on Namek and Vegeta is dead too
DBZ Movie 5-6: Goku never gets the heart virus and stops Dr. Gero and #19 before they awaken #16-18. Piccolo also finishes off Cell as well. This could explain why Future Trunks was never mention in either movie
DBZ Movie 7: Cell never goes back in time and they used the bomb switch to defeat #16-18
DBZ Movie 8, 10 and 11- Broly was born on Age 737 which changed him compare to his Super counterpart. Cell never host the Cell Games and he probably took on everyone in a one on one fight instead. Goku doesn't visit Earth for a day which explains why he is in Other World at the end of DBZ Movie 11. Without Goku, Vegeta never falls under Babidi's spell meaning that there's no Majin Buu
DBZ Movie 12 - Gohan finishes off Super Buu. I feel like this makes sense power scaling wise as Base Gohan was able to kill Freeza in a single punch without going Super Saiyan
DBZ Movie 13 - This one almost fits until you realize Bluma has Cell's time machine in a better shape compare to the one in Super. I think it's probably set sometime after Goku used the Dragon Balls to erase Buu's memories and before Daima.

DBZ Movie 9 is the only one that I feel like that can still fit as of 2026

I believe It's supposed to be after, it's like I said in a previous post, with the exception of Movie 1, which was a alternate take on Raditz, all of the Z movies are imaginations of the actual arcs in the anime ending earlier, they're supposed to take place after the most recent events in the anime but not considering what came after, even though the manga was already ahead. So Movie 4 for example has Kaio casually mentioning Freeza to Goku as if he were already been defeated.
The only movie I think they made imagining taking place before the Freeza arc is Movie 2, given its release and Gohan's haircut.
Movie 3 is complicated though because everyone is alive, but it strongly suggests that Freeza is alive and has Goku wearing his Namek gi.

With these I can agree, but not the following ones given some specific details (most of them not being in-universe though)
DBZ Movie 5-6: Goku never gets the heart virus and stops Dr. Gero and #19 before they awaken #16-18. Piccolo also finishes off Cell as well. This could explain why Future Trunks was never mention in either movie
Movie 5 came out before the Androids show up in the manga, and it was also too late in production and too early for the anime for them to consider Freeza's return. So I think in this one would be most likely Goku defeating Freeza with the Genkidama and returning Earth with everyone. Muten Roshi in the beginning talks about the trip to Namekusei, so I think this a scenario where Goku never went to Yardrat. Plus, Gohan still has Namekusei haircut.

Movie 6 I do view as a Goku never getting heart virus and Dr. Gero & 19 defeated before the other Androids awakened scenario, but not Piccolo fusing and stopping Cell. The time Piccolo and Kami fuse and Cell is introduced I think was too late for them to view Piccolo defeating him. I do understand why believe that it's fused Piccolo in this movie though because of the Dende scene, though I personally think it's either just Kami retiring or them adding that scene in response to the latest manga chapters at the time, but not having time to fix Piccolo power level.
Without Goku, Vegeta never falls under Babidi's spell meaning that there's no Majin Buu.
Movies 10 and 11 somehow would need Goku dying after Movie 8 to work. So I view the Cell Games as still happening in that timeline, just slgihtly different.
Movie 11 has Android 18 referencing the events at the Tenkaichi Budokai where she fights Satan, so I like to imagine that Goku still visited Earth, the events at the Tenkaichi Budokai and Babidi's ship as we know still happened, but not everything that came after, that means no Majin Vegeta or Boo because Babidi and Dabura are defeated. So Goku returns to Afterlife, then Movies 10 and 11 happen.
DBZ Movie 12 - Gohan finishes off Super Buu. I feel like this makes sense power scaling wise as Base Gohan was able to kill Freeza in a single punch without going Super Saiyan
This one is very complicated, because the previous movies villains show up, so you would need to say that all of the previous movie happened in some unseen alternative way. As for Gohan, while Ultimate Gohan was already introduced in the manga months before the movie was released, in the anime there was still no Ultimate Gohan, and they would need the anime introducing the new form first before using in a movie, so I think it's more likely a scenario where either Fat Boo or Super Boo were defeated by Gotenks, or in other different way, but not by Gohan. And I do think it makes sense to have Base Gohan defeating Final Form Freeza without Ultimate.

I forgot about this (or never noticed) so thanks for pointing that out. Prior to that movie's release, we already see the Z-senshi dead in Kaio's planet, so I think it adds more to my theory that they indeed viewed them being resurrected and the end of those arcs much earlier.
It makes me think actually, if Goku is already using his new gi in the movie (which was not even show in the anime yet at the time), maybe they already thought of him defeating the Ginyu Tokusentai? The Freeza mention is really confusing though. Maybe the best theory is that Turles and his gang just weren't aware about some people on Namekusei defeating Freeza and his army lol.

I feel like Toriyama's take on a lot of the characters have always been so much more interesting than what Toei and by extension most of the fanbase sees, particularly Goku, Piccolo and Vegeta. I know we had a thread about "Toriyama's more ruthless Vegeta" but I find it fascinating that even reformed, Vegeta still has enough lingering evil in his heart to find Frieza's offer at least worth a thought rather than complete dismissal.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

It's fanmade, made for MUGEN by "Xande Toskomics" and "Ribeiro" according to this site, here's a video showing it, though it's hard to notice because he's barely seen running, but you can spot it if you pause or use the slow down option. Pretty good looking Goku imo, even has the first Z eyecatch music.

James Marsters was a disgusting choice to cast considering his history (and I don't refer to the live-action movie) and should be recast.
