The Fat Buu is quite an anamoly, since he's rather innocent and not quite the most funambilous of the bunch. No one can really say if it was because he took on too much of the fat, dumb Kai's traits, became too good, became less evil, or the mixture of everyone he absorbed kind of fried his brain like an egg on the hood of a Sedan in the mid-August Geo'gia sun. Anyway, your theory may work here, but I don't think it helps explain the later Buus.

Basically I think Goku would be stronger than Gotenks. It's only natural that the main character would be the strongest after all. 
Have a look at the battle with Goku and Kid Buu on Kaioushin Kai. You can say they were pretty much equal, just that Buu's stamina, his regenerative capabilities would cause him to win.
The Buu with Gohan is the strongest, then the Buu with Gotenks, and after that, it is Kid Buu.
I would think that Goku at his maximum would be equal to Gohan. Have a look at the fight between Goku and the Buu with Gotenks absorbed. I know that is filler, but Goku does stand up to Buu very well, when Gohan found it hard to do so.
Comparing the fights with Kid Buu and the Buu with Gotenks, I would think that Kid Buu is only a little bit below the Gotenks Buu in power, seeing the way Goku fought.

Dayspring i think the way you put each different Buu in the scale of which one is stronger than who is wrong.
This is a discussion i had with a well experimented guy called Monkeyman in another forum, he really showed to know a lot about the DBZ series and manga. The words that are quoted are mine when i was confused, and the replies are his answers. In this post he explains very well Buu´s strenghts, Gohan´s and Goku´s.
Please read it all, it will clear out many confussions with most people. After his replies i realized how wrong i had been.

Thus, when Buu absorbs SSJ3 Gotenks and Piccolo, he more than doubles his strength. It's like 2 + 2.5. The result is more thn 4, and 4 is double of 2. It's just like that.

Vegeta and MISTER Buu [NOT FAT BUU] were less than half Kid Buu's power. Of course they needed to rotate. Goku only rotated because SSJ3 drains power.

The Genki Dama was an overkill. Vegeta states Kid buu could be destroyed merely by SSJ3 Max Goku's power [See the picture]. Since I've proven that Son Gohan is about double Gokus max power, he can certainly destroy Kid Buu if it's stated by both Goku and Vegeta that Goku can.

Buu only has to be disintegrated into nothingness. With over double his power, Gohan could easily do that.

Incorrect. It only takes the manifestation of SSJ3 goku's full power, so Gohan can certainly do it.
So, in conclusion [because reading so much must have hurt your brain]:
-> Son Goku stated he could not, under ANY circumstances, beat Super Buu 1.
-> Gohan DID beat Super Buu 1. Easily. So, Gohan is much stronger than Son Goku.
-> Gohan lasts a while against Super Buu 2 who is more than double Super Buu 1's power, and since Son Goku is weaker than Super Buu 1 by a fair margin, at max power, by his OWN ADMISSION, Son Gohan must, therefore, be about double Son Goku's maximum power.
-> Goku AND Vegeta stated that SSJ3 Goku at Full power could destroy Kid Buu in an instant. So, since Son Gohan is stronger than Goku and he doesn't get a power drain like SSJ3 does, he can beat Kid Buu easily too.
-> So, Son Gohan >>>>>> Super Buu 1 >>> SSJ3 Full power Son Goku >> Kid Buu.

Oh, no... It looks like Fushar is trying to start a Buu argument. That's not allowed here. Hopefully that'll just be deleted and this closed before it turns into one of those old wars where people bring up several ideas that go against what he said and it turns into an endless argument. It reminds me of topics I've seen where that happens and it goes on for literaly hundreds of posts. Who cares what others' oppinions on it are. It's DB, there is no logic!
I'm not trying to start anything, i just posted that i once was confused and got my mouth shut after a guy with a lot of DBZ knowledge and the manga posted hard-cold facts and proofs about who is stronger than who. Dont delete it please, i think it really explains very well how is everything.
lol Any time something like that is posted on any forum, it'll most likely start a "Buu war". There are over a million things I've seen people say that "disproves" everything that that "proves". And there are no facts, it's all oppinion(The only real fact is that DB is just ink on paper). And it should be deleted since that very thing has been around a million times before only to go back and forth through pointless arguments and ain't allowed here.

All the same, you might have been better off stating your version of the Boo strength theory in a new thread, rather than reviving an old one. That kind of thing is generally frowned down upon, as is having page filling/stretching images.
Anyways; just on principle, I don't accept those ancient fanslations as any kind of "proof". I don't know the translator, he's not doing the work professionally (IE. Being payed), so he may just be making stuff up.

Why would someone waste their time scanning, and replacing the Japanese words with made up English text, on all 42 volumes of DB? That takes a whole lot of time, you know.
