Mr Popo and the kidnapping of Dende were censored in episode 6 of the German dub, but the violence and jokes were left intact.

Gianluca Iacono (Vegeta's VA) has said there would be "nasty surprises" in the upcoming Italian dub.sangofe wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 10:35 am What is the case with Italy? Unwanted recasts and making dubbing cheaper?
Of course, nasty surprises can mean a lot of things but here are the three things I think he could've meant:
1) Daima wasn't probably dubbed in Milan like all the previous series but in Rome and only some actors from Milan like Gianluca Iacono could return.
2) Daima was still probably dubbed in Milan but some of the characters got recast with voice actors from Rome.
3) Daima was neither recorded in Milan nor Rome but in Turin, which frequently uses voice actors from both cities and only some from Milan got called.
If the Rome thing happens, it wouldn't be the first time that Rome dubbed Dragon Ball content. In fact, the first dubs of both the OG Dragon Ball series and the Z movies were recorded there.

First episode of German dub is on YouTube and Mr Popo is still censored. Hopefully things will be different for the home video release.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima Dub Releases Thread
What countries have had to unnecessary recasts where the voice actors are alive and well for the Dragon Ball Daima dubs, so far? Europe seems to be getting hit hard.
Re: Dragon Ball Daima Dub Releases Thread
The first episode of Dragon Ball Daima is available as an exclusive preview on Mediaset Infinity.
Several of the well-known Italian voice actors have been replaced including those who voice Goku, Vegeta and Bulma.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima Dub Releases Thread
There haven't been that many dubs of Dragon Ball Daima in general.sangofe wrote: Mon Sep 07, 2026 2:57 am What countries have had to unnecessary recasts where the voice actors are alive and well for the Dragon Ball Daima dubs, so far? Europe seems to be getting hit hard.
Outside of Europe theres only been the US dub, the Latin American dubs, the Taiwanese Mandarin dub, the Korean dub, the Thai dub and the three Indian dubs, so Asia is the only continent other than Europe that's had more than two dubs so far.
There was also a Cantonese dub, Kurdish dub, two Persian dubs and Russian dub but all of those were unlicensed productions.

As far as I recall, they said the same thing to Philippe Ariotti (Piccolo, Freezer, Babidi in the French dub) and he refused so it wouldn't surprise me if they replaced him too in a potential French dub.Banduck wrote: Mon Sep 07, 2026 4:38 am I heard the same thing about the german dub too... Re: Dragon Ball Daima Dub Releases Thread
Yea this Toriyama-centric obsession needs to end, let him rest in peace and don't use his name for doing cruel things like that.
Re: Dragon Ball Daima Dub Releases Thread
Not only him but Patrick Borg and I think Brigitte Lecordier, too. Wtf is wrong with Toei not letting the voice actors go to conventions and speak with the fans anymore?TheRed259 wrote: Mon Sep 07, 2026 5:01 amAs far as I recall, they said the same thing to Philippe Ariotti (Piccolo, Freezer, Babidi in the French dub) and he refused so it wouldn't surprise me if they replaced him too in a potential French dub.Banduck wrote: Mon Sep 07, 2026 4:38 am I heard the same thing about the german dub too... Re: Dragon Ball Daima Dub Releases Thread
For some reason, Toei Europe has become more restrictive in Europe; they've even imposed restrictions such as prohibiting the dub of songs.
It's weird and curious to contrast this with what's happening in America, where we'll soon have a convention featuring Sean Schemmel and Mario Castañeda (Goku's English and Latin Spanish V.A) as guests alongside Mazako Nozawa.

Hmm... maybe someone involved in one of the European dubs said "too much" and Toei Europe found out?M16U3L2015 wrote: Mon Sep 07, 2026 1:31 pm For some reason, Toei Europe has become more restrictive in Europe; they've even imposed restrictions such as prohibiting the dub of songs.
That kind of ridiculous restrictions from the companies often happen whenever someone breaks the non-disclosure agreement.

The Italian voice actor for Vegeta, Gianluca Iacono, shared the following message on his Instagram story:

Of course, I cannot know the terms of these contracts with 100% certainty but instead of directing all its strictness at European dubs, why doesn't Toei Animation Europe also do something about the illegal Albanian dubs that have been going on for 20 years?

Not even weird, it's really unfair.M16U3L2015 wrote: Mon Sep 07, 2026 1:31 pm For some reason, Toei Europe has become more restrictive in Europe; they've even imposed restrictions such as prohibiting the dub of songs.

Maybe it's because the Italian voice actor for Vegeta said Super 2 was coming in 2018 and Borg said he'd quit if Antoine Noel didn't voice Vegeta? Either way, I love all voices but Borg's Goku so I guess watching Dragon Ball dubbed in French is of the past for me. I'll check out the new voices but I really can't see how they can end up being better casts.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima Dub Releases Thread
I'm trying to think about some ulterior motive they could have, such a dumb restriction must have some hidden agebda behind it, but I honestly can't come up with anything.TheRed259 wrote: Mon Sep 07, 2026 10:00 pm The Italian voice actor for Vegeta, Gianluca Iacono, shared the following message on his Instagram story:

Gianluca Iacono IS Vegeta here in Italy. Claudio Moneta IS Goku, and the perfect successor to Paolo Torrisi.
Idk it feels like replacing Masako Nozawa during her prime for no good reason.
I don't like the new voices that much for now, all I can say is good luck to the new voice actors, voicing such iconic characters with such iconic voices before them must be quite a task.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima Dub Releases Thread
Yeah, it seems there's been some really poor decision-making over at Toei Europe (they were never perfect, but at least they seemed to do certain things better than their parent company). All this recasting nonsense has to be the reason Daima's European release was rolled out so late, I'd think. Wonder what their plans for Super Beerus and beyond are. Daima was a one-off thing that didn't seem to make a lot of waves, but anything Super-releated is a different story. If they keep all these cast changes or wait forever to release it....it could really blow up in their faces.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima Dub Releases Thread
They are unflexible and basically saying to the voice actors "cease to exist in the eye of the audience, you are supposed to be invisible and not a real person". As a reminder, they apparently go as far as to forbid the appearance at conferences EVEN if the conference is unrelated to Dragon Ball but related to any other existing TV shows or movie.
They are basically saying "you never appear in public, you stay invisible, you get forgotten by the audience so that it's like the characters' voices come from the fictional characters only and you stop having money to live comfortably between projects thanks to conferences between two dub jobs".
In the end, it's possible the voice actors will earn more of a living by NOT being cast for the new Dragon Ball projects but keep being able to still make it to various conferences throughout the years rather than by accepting Toei's conditions and relying only on sparse 20-episodes runs of Dragon Ball while never appearing in any conference or interview for any of their shows ever.
