Not sure if it's intentionally or not, but a joke quote from Kuririn (TFS EP39) got used in a similar way on Dragon Ball SD Chapter 106:


(So when Trunks' destroyed most of Gero's lab without giving a warning to the others)
TFS: "You're definitely Vegeta's kid"
SD: "As you would expect from Vegeta's son."

I think there are even more instances of similar jokes in SD, like I remember after defeating Raditz, Piccolo threw Gohan against a rock. While in the anime he fires a ki blast to destroy it, in both the TFS and SD version Gohan just collides with that rock and gets hurt.

Could all be a coincidence, but how knows, but maybe Ooishi watched some TFS?

Sorry for such a belated notification. I don't know how I didn't see this post before, but I saw it just now while checking the thread, and I realized I can explain the joke! So I figured why not, even though it's almost 2 years later lol.

Chapter 353, the one where #18 beats Vegeta, is titled "As You'd Expect of Vegeta". So Ooishi is more than likely referencing the chapter title. Doesn't mean she hasn't seen DBZ Abridged, though. With the ubiquity of the internet, anything's possible.

Re-watching Episode Commentaries, Lani and Kaiser commented how Freeza 2nd form PL of 1 million was ridiculous gap. But it would make sense if Toriyama ended DB on Freeza, who since Kaio "True root of evil" was hyped as this super powerful being, far stronger than anyone, Kaio kept warning Goku and others "Do not anger Freeza or even lay finger on him!" And even Vegeta knew "As if Freeza was someone you could beat by team-up..." and saw immortality as only way to beat him.

I don't know if I ever did that on this thread before, but I came here to give my appreciation to

DragonBall Z Abridged MOVIE: Revenge of Cooler - TeamFourStar (TFS)

Man, I remember watching this so many times back in 2012 that, to this day, I still think it's one of the best, if not the best, pieces of content TFS ever produced from this Abridged parody.

References, humour and voice acting were top-notch:

Krillin: "Wait, why you need my help? Can't Goku bench press a planet?"

Sauza: "Could it be the Legendary Super Swine?!"

Coola: "Look at you... wasted and gasping for air. But you don't get to go yet. When your planet is in ashes... then you have my permission to die." (The Dark Knight Rises)

Goku: "Go, Toriyama... and teach a dinosaur to ride a ball!" (Chala HEAD Chala lyrics)

Not only that, but the use of the soundtrack was brilliant! They used the movie's original soundtrack and even threw in the original ending theme, just for it to be cut to that scene where Sauza threatens everyone lol

Also I loved that they kept the irony of Coola also being responsible fo not shoot down Goku's spaceship.

I know everyone hypes up Broly, and it’s literally their #1 most viewed video, but for me, it didn't come close to having the same appeal as their Movie 5 parody. Personally, I think they peaked back then, and it's a shame they couldn't keep that.

My favorite Abridged movie might be either Dead Zone, Lord Slug, or Android 13. Broly was funny, but he's not a good antagonist no matter how they added a personality to him & I hate the scene they wrote with Goku scaring Pilaf that they showed in the commentary for that one. I get the kind of dark humor they were going for, but they didn't execute it right & it came off mean-spirited.

- All "Freeza did it!" jokes
- Coola henchmen "Beep" yet everyone could understand what they say
- Piccolo being strongest one, but he just wanna save Gohan, because "What about the others?"
- Geets being kicked into d.ck by every single one of Metal Coola
