The next episode preview is actually included within the ending credits if I'm not mistaken.
On Toei's channel, there is no picture of anything else than Shenron during the ending, cause it must be the "base" version.
While in the episode, the ending shows in-episode pictures of Goku fighting on Kaio's planet once there's enough of Shenron's tail to cover the screen, which is supposedly the content of the next episode based on the title.

So basically, this is a new way to make you watch the ending to catch the next episode preview, as Shenron will form a "screen" of sorts with his long tail and pictures of the next episode will be shown before the title of this next episode appears at the end.

That's what I think, but it seems to fit my observations above.

That makes the ending a little better with that innovative concept. Now I'll carefully watch it every week to see the NEP that's included within.
Still would have prefered a more classic ending animation, but it tempers my initial disappointment and actually makes the ending a bit interesting to check out now. Not too interesting when it's about the "base version" on Toei's channel though, since this concept is not there and it becomes just an ending where you keep seeing a not-so-well-crafted 3D Shenron without any added value or any innovative concept to make you interested in watching it.

Earlier in the night, I could acquire the ending on iTunes, but not the opening (which I could hear in full on YouTube at least, but couldn't buy it on iTunes). A quick search showed it's releasing physically only on November 25th, so it's gonna be around that time on iTunes too, probably.

Alright, I guess.
I like the addition of the mental training from the manga, a little too long the scene with the dino, wished they have kept Geets at the amusement park. Thank god they erased from existence that awful subplot of Goten and Trunks and that big snake.

It looks much better. Nothing to write home about, though, it mostly speaks volumes of how shitty DBS looked in the first place.

The opening and ending are the weakest links. The opening looks great, but the song seems like the soundtrack of the cave fight from BoG.

I liked it a lot!

Animation wise, this is by far the best opening of the franchise. The song is also much better than Chozetsu Dynamic, which is the worst.

The ending is crap though.

Pacing is great and I like the new scenes. Hopefully they keep taking things from the manga.

I like the darker tone they are giving to Beerus.
Didn't expect them to bring back the DBZ sound effects.

Visually is obviously better, even though modern Yamamuro designs are still crap.

After having Shintani, Kubota and Nakatsuru as character designers, going back to him is such a downgrade. That last Goku shot from the Opening is better than anything Yamamuro drew in more than a decade.

Shun Sawai is amazing and the best thing to come out from Daima.

Looking forward to the new talents that DBS Beerus will give us.

Never thought I would say this but its good to have Sumitomo back, after whatever was that Daima soundtrack.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Favourite old DB Animators: Masaki Sato and Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Favourite new DB Animators: Yuya Takahashi and Chikashi Kubota

Watching the episode reminded me of how Beerus and Whis were kind of Aholes when they were first introduced

The addition of the mental training scene from the manga was such a great touch. I’ve always loved that scene, and the Freeza, Cell, and Boo trio is one of my favorites. Hopefully, this is a sign that we’ll see more manga-exclusive content make its way into the anime.
The pacing was much better, too.

Well that was definitely Dragon Ball Super Kai.
Considering how lousy the start of Super was, I can't say a compressed version won't be an improvement... if only there wasn't already a compressed version.
Only thing I'll feel bad about losing was the character fluff SoL stuff, but that still exists in OG Super anyway. The actual martial arts action from the first three arcs was the worst part about it just because of how pisspoor the choreography, staging, impact, follow throughs, and animation itself were (some parts of RoF and U6 vs U7 literally looked like a late 80s Taiwanese bootleg), so why not fix all that?
And if anyone really cares about the SoL parts, I'm sure someone will take DBS:B and DBS and stitch them back in anyway

So not a bad start
At least they're giving the team more time to work on it

I watched it this morning and I have some thoughts:
  • The new OP is terrible. It's super generic, but also strangely directed with a bunch of music over the emptiness of space. I'm completely baffled by people glazing it. Especially since it has some hideously ugly Yamamuro art in it.
  • No recap of the end of the Boo arc in the first episode of a new series? - I know they're pressed for time but that's a bit odd.
  • As much as I love Joji Yanami as Kaio I thought they'd naturally get Naoki Tatsuda to re-do his lines - weird choice.
  • The pacing reminds me of the first few episodes of Kai, definitely some odd cuts here and there.
  • I don't love the tone change with Beerus, especially since in BoG he was dangerous because he was capricious and destroying the earth was utterly inconsequential to him. Not a fan of the more "villainous" angle they're trying to put on here.
  • The show looks good, it's really odd to see this part of the series with proper compositing.
  • The new musical pieces from what I heard seemed like an improvement - but that's not saying much.
All in all it was probably about as good as this kind of thing can be, but as someone that watched this arc recently I am really curious about how they can salvage it because it was so bad surely it would be easier to start over.

It's been confirmed that there was no new recordings for the entire series, so unless Yamcha is outright cut out (which should be easy to do), then whenever he speaks it'll be by his original voice actor.

I think that’s a good thing. Kai is usually my go-to when I want to watch Z since it’s more practical. It’s not like Super necessarily needs a cut-down version, considering it’s not that long, but the pacing could definitely be better. That said, I’ll miss some of the slice-of-life moments, since they’re part of Super’s DNA as a post-Boo story.

That is pretty funny. But after 10 years, maybe they see this more as a remake of Super rather than another sequel to Z. I mean, they don’t really need Z to sell Super anymore, since it’s become popular enough to stand on its own.

I agree. But that’s an angle that was already present in the original. I remember how the fight ended in the movie: Beerus pretended to be tired so he wouldn’t have to destroy Earth. He was being nice, and everyone knew it. In Super, they made it more explicit that he was doing them a favor by sparing the planet. It’s a change I never really liked.

That would be a shame. I like Yamcha, even if it’s just nice to have him around. He’s one of my top five favorite characters. I just wish his character wasn’t caught up in all this real-life drama.

hmm that's interesting, the new scenes that they may add will for sure need some additional lines, right? like I could've said those lines would've been a day of work for the entire cast, but not to the extent of not having a single new voice recording

From what I can tell, only Beerus's voice actor so far has made that claim. The official site says there will be new recordings.

But this is lame as hell if true, because it means any new animation/scenes would have to require no additional dialogue, which severely limits what they can add. Almost every manga exclusive scene has exclusive dialogue.

Kinda kills my enthusiasm tbh. Not that I had much for this to begin with.

They can get away with it if the new scenes are related to fighting and powering up; as long as there are no new scenes that revolve around the characters actually talking, then they should be fine.

Most of the story problems in the original can be fixed simply by skipping useless filler, like this remaster is currently doing by erasing Pilaf and friends. There's really no need to add new lines of dialogue. Just skip all the filler side stories. The main scenes have all the expositions one needs to understand the story. Also, when people complain about "dumb Goku!!!", they usually cite filler episodes or irrelevant scenes that aren't important to the story. If you focus only on the important scenes, the characters look a lot more intelligent without their dumb moments from the filler episodes.

In the end, what most people disliked about Super was 1) bad art 2) useless filler. And this remaster is removing both those issues.

The art is good (the Broly movie-style filter is good) and they are cutting down all the filler bloat which is also good.
At his core Zamasu is good like Shin, though I guess you could say he was so fastidious that it backfired. But you know, for this "Future Trunks Arc" you had to depict Zamasu and Trunks' inner conflict, right? If this was back when I was drawing the manga myself then I doubt if I could have done it. I mean, I'm not very good at depicting the characters' psychology on the page. So this all came together because now I only have to think up the story. [...] On my own, I doubt I would have been able to express Zamasu's fall to the dark side.

Am I the only one who thought this change was dumb and made no sense? Why give some random nobody the aura of a super villain? I know a big part of the reason is probably to cover up the shitty animation from the original, but this was way over the top.

Image

Like someone else said in this thread, the whole scene with Whis going after dinosaur meat is pointless. There's no need to hype up Beerus yet again when we've already seen him destroy half a planet with a single touch. They could've had him remember his dream about the SSG in some other way.

Maybe this guy is real strong but we'll never know since he happened to face Beerus as his only on-screen opponent

You are exaggerating the complaint, which is completely valid in this instance.

When people cite "dumb Goku", they are most likely talking about his recklessness and lack of consideration that didn't exist much in the original. Goku has done reckless and inconsiderate things in the original for the sake of fighting, such as letting Gero live, but most of those were accompanied with convenient plot excuses that made him seem less bad. "Dr. Gero hasn't done anything wrong yet, technically, so maybe killing him is going too far?"

Goku's characterization problems in Super are not a mistake made by someone at Toei who misinterpreted the character, they're imposed by Toriyama and are directly baked into the story. The Champa, Zamasu and Tournament of Power arcs would have not happened the way they did without Goku intervening in some shape or form and seeking needless conflict to satiate his hunger for battle. Heck, Toyotaro himself has mentioned that "Toriyama really must've hated the idea of Hero Goku..."

Once again: Goku's new characterization isn't a bug, it's a feature.
Fans have the right to dislike it.

We... always knew the animation would mostly be the old drawings with perhaps some cleanups, and it was always inevitable that the cleanups would not be for everything...?

Ah, pardon.
I didn't keep up with the news, I just saw the audio clips thing because it was a recent topic.
I was under the impression that they would redo the whole shot instead of reusing animation cells.
Shows how much I care about this, really.
