Hoi! Yesterday, I was organizing my Dragonball books, because I finally completed my Daizenshuu collection (save for the two Cardass ones), and I came across a book I got ten or so years ago. It was released around the third DBZ movie (judging from the big section dedicated to it) and filled with a whole bunch of Akira Toriyama goodness, including screenshots of a short animation Toriyama worked on (the title of this post). I eventually picked up a VHS of that short at a Mitsuwa market in the discount bin!
Anyhoo, its a cute little short, and I was wondering if anyone else has seen it, or knows of a translation of it? Its raw Japanese, so I don't know what the heck anyone is saying, but the storytelling is good enough that you can get the basic gist of things easy enough (something Toriyama excels at). I googled it and only ended up with seedless torrents.
Any info is appreciated!

It would be the two kids on the right side of the book (except the one at the bottom). The VHS is next to it

Isn't that Dragon Boy?

Nah, Dragon Boy looks a lot like lil Goku, but with a much less crazy haircut.

A friend let my family borrow a tape made from one of the Dragonball laserdiscs many years ago and it had as an extra a little blurb about Kennosuke (the guy on the right bottom) Kosuke sama Rikimaru sama (the guys above Kennosuke), and Pink (she's the girl with pink hair on the left). The tape had just little snippets of the animation from these shorts. I've always wanted to see them.

He resembles Son more in the second picture. In the first, he resembles Puar.

Toriyama mentions that special a bit in his
Daizenshuu 1 interview:
Q: The way you paint colors has also changed quite a bit.
A:Yeah. For example, in the old days I shaded off the light portions on hair, but shading it off took a lot of time. When I made an anime called Kosuke-same Rikimaru-sama (screened at the '89 Jump Anime Carnival, and later become a Jump Video), I looked at the pictures of the animator Toyoo Ashida, and I thought that the anime-style way of applying light and shadow wasn't bad. I made my pictures like that from then on.
The truth is, Mr. Ashida is someone that I've always respected.
I tried looking it up back when I translated that interview, but all I found was its cover. So I'm afraid the above is all I know about it.

Here's a
feature from Daizenshuu 2 that covers Dragon Boy a bit.

I just finished watching this special. I always love Toriyama's super strong children. I've looked for the Pink and Kennosuke special many times over the years and haven't been able to find them. I'll keep looking though.
I'm not sure how the community here feels about fansubs, but since this is otherwise completely unavailable in the United States here is a direct download of 小助さま 力丸さま コンペイ島の竜 with fansubs (which from glancing at seem to be pretty accurate)

I'm not sure if this is against the rules or not. If it is please let me know, and I'll change my post immediately.

Yea, I'm really curious about Kennosuke and Pink, too. His stories are just too much fun!

Am I blind or isn't "Kosuke-sama & Rikimaru-sama" in the ANN database?

I've got a copy of both
Pink and
Kennosuke-sama somewhere on VHS, but I haven't watched them in a decade, and I've moved several times since then, so I don't know where they would be packed away.

And it will probably take moving again before I ever unearth them. I'll probably find my copy of
Tobal No. 1 while I'm at it, too.

Wow. This is really neat. First that Cashman and Go Go Ackman! shorts and now this. I was wondering if they were any subtitled versions of Cashman. I really loved the manga.

I had no idea there were "Cashman" and "Go Go Ackman" shorts. I just watched the "Cashman" episode on youtube and it was pretty great. I'll have to watch Ackman tomorrow. I can't wait to see what they do with that. Thanks for the heads up on these Sebastian (SB)!

Yeah, the Cashman & Go Go Ackman shorts were put up by our Japan native forum member Pekinduck a while back. I think he had to take them down due to copyright issues. It's a shame though, there's so much Toriyama stuff that never really made it outside of Japan. I'm really hoping Viz decides to release his one-shot collections. At least before most of the Neko Majin stuff. Cowa! was okay, but not enough to satisfy my Toriyama fix.
