Woah! That's a lot of information. Thanks. It sucks that besides 2 and 7 they don't get any bigger. You'd think they could have just put all of them into one big book. I really hope they release all of them in America though.Herms said: Hujio has a good overview of it's contents up on Kanzentai. Basically, it's got Toriyama's introduction, then all the pictures sorted by year. This takes up most of the book, and the only text that goes along with each picture is it's number and where it first appeared. Then there's the Toriyama interview, and then the picture index, which describes in some detail when each picture was drawn and for what, sometimes with extra details about how Toriyama made it. Toriyama himself didn't write any of the index entries, though.
Daizenshuu 1 is kind of in the middle page number wise, at least compared to the other hardcover ones. 2 and 7 are quite thick, but 4 and 6 are much thinner than 1. 3 and 5 are about the same as 1.

I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

Found it for just under £10 ($20) on The Book Depository, I'll probably get it tomorrow.
I just thought, what if they don't release the 2 TV parts, or the Movie/Specials ones because of Funimation?

Wait, I take that back. Here are the exact page numbers for all the daizenshuu, except the two Carddass ones:Chrono Trigger wrote:Woah! That's a lot of information. Thanks. Daizenshuu 1: 217
Daizenshuu 2: 165
Daizenshuu 3: 233
Daizenshuu 4: 169
Daizenshuu 5: 233
Daizenshuu 6: 217
Daizenshuu 7: 313
Daizenshuu 10: 121
So from shortest to longest, it goes 10, 4, 1 and 6, 5 and 3, 2, 7. Well, I guess that still puts 1 in the middle
Anyway, if the released them all as one book, it would be 1,668 pages. Long enough for you?

Hm? I guess that is a a lot. It'd certainly be epic though. Think about it. One huge ass Dragon Ball "Bible".Herms said: Anyway, if the released them all as one book, it would be 1,668 pages. Long enough for you?

Right, hopefully they will put them out in good manner. The back of the book did have a one-star dragonball. It could mean anything, but it could be implied that more are coming out.We still have no real indication that they'll release the others, though.

I thought that might be a problem but then I saw this at Borders:The Time Traveller wrote:I just thought, what if they don't release the 2 TV parts, or the Movie/Specials ones because of Funimation?

A Full Metal Alchemist anime guide book. So it wouldn't be impossible for Viz to do the anime stuff...but then there's the translation differences between the manga and english dub so that could be a potential road-block.

Maybe, I don't think most dubbys actually read the manga. It could just be my own ignorance, but for me, at least, I didn't care for the manga until I saw the Japan version.Brad Redfield wrote:I thought that might be a problem but then I saw this at Borders:The Time Traveller wrote:I just thought, what if they don't release the 2 TV parts, or the Movie/Specials ones because of Funimation?

Ok, that's that bad thought gone, now then, that 1 star Dragon Ball...Brad Redfield wrote:I thought that might be a problem but then I saw this at Borders:The Time Traveller wrote:I just thought, what if they don't release the 2 TV parts, or the Movie/Specials ones because of Funimation?

I'd say that's a definite indication, but that's just me.

I agree on what I do understand! I think the one star dragon ball could be an indication!

But that's just part of the book design. Sure, for the Japanese version it's there to indicate the book number, but Viz probably left it on due more to laziness than anything else. I mean, the fact that they went out of their way to remove the actual "1" from the cover seems more indicative of their current plans. I'm not saying that there's no chance that they'll put out the rest, just that there's still no real indication that they will.
But if they do put out the others, I wonder what they'll do with 7's merchandise guide. It's a 50 page guide to all sorts of Japanese merchandise, even with a timeline of when it was released. Practically none of this stuff was released in America, and the timeline references Japanese TV shows and other events from the time all the stuff came out. The whole thing would be useless and inexplicable to most non-Japanese fans, so I think Viz would probably cut it out, which would reduce the size of their version of 7 by quite a bit. Or they could be really awesome and create a guide to American merchandise. Daizenshuu 6 also has some pictures of movie merchandise that was given to those who attended the movie.

That actually seems pretty likely to me. Viz has done similar things as articles in issues of Jump time and again. It wouldn't be too hard or far-fetched for them to whip up something for the US version of the Daizenshuu.Herms wrote:Or they could be really awesome and create a guide to American merchandise.
