Possible Dragon Ball DS US title and release date?

Post by Brad Redfield » Fri Aug 15, 2008 5:11 am

Found this little trinket over at GoNintendo that I wanted to throw out there.
System Title Release Date
DS Madagascar 2: Crate Escape (street Date 11/4) 11/4/2008
DS Bond 007: Quantum Of Solace 11/5/2008
DS Call Of Duty: World At War (m) 11/12/2008
DS Kung Fu Panda: Legendary Warriors 11/19/2008
DS Dragonball: Origins 11/26/2008
http://gonintendo.com/?p=52468

"games4gamersonline" is the source for this information. The site looks really shady so I wouldn't put too much trust in them. :?

*sigh* So if this is true, Atari changed the name. DB DS was a fine title. Fortunately, Dragonball: Origins isn't too bad of a name, since it straight up tells you what its about.

Edit: IF it is Atari, which is likely.

Hopefully the changes stay limited to the title....but I don't have much hope for that.

Why not? Aside from using dub names and changing the covers, the US versions of the games have been pretty much the same as the Japanese. Aside from Dragon Power, I don't think there's never been anything like the stuff they did to Kingdom Hearts II for it's American release (OK, Dragon Power had way more changes than Kingdom Hearts II, but you get the idea I hope: the censoring of game content rather than just messing around with the titles and covers).

Well, in the dub they toned down some of the jokes from the beginning of DB, so I assume they would do the same for the game? I don't know, maybe they'll actually surprise me and do a good accurate translation with no graphical censorship. (Although I'm not sure if there is any nudity or anything in the Japanese version anyway.) As long as the music and all that stays the same I'll be fine.

It looks like the Japanese version already has some jokey censorship: they show Bulma flashing Kame-sennin from a frontal view, but the space between the two screens blocks the view of Bulma's privates.

I wouldn't worry about censorship. So far Atari has been pretty nice to the handheld games; leaving/adding in profanity among other things.

The dub script in the games are also a hell of a lot accurate than the normal dub.

I think I'll just get the Japanese version.

Atari put out a press release about an hour ago confirming their release of the game in November (no exact date was given). "DragonBall DS" is indeed coming out here as "DragonBall Origins".

I'd link the press release and update the site, but that'd be difficult to do from my phone :P.

Wow. It comes out the day after Chrono Trigger if I'm not mistaken. That's great ! It's too bad they couldn't just call it Dragon Ball DS. I swear they have an obsessive compulsion to change things that really don't need to be changed but whatever. We're all used to it by now.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

If we're all here for a reason then I'm just visiting.

If it's held in your heart then you can't let go.

Really? Wow, with those, and the various DVD releases, my poor wallet is NOT looking forward to November... >_<;

So it's officially "DragonBall: Origins?" Not bad. A little cliche, but could have been a lot worse.

Do we know of any extras being released with this in Japan or the US? I'm really hoping they do a Nyoibo stylus, or at least a turtle shell or dragonball attachment to make your DS look awesome.

I hope it'll be as fun as Advance Adventure was for me.

OK, with the press releases I think we can confirm that Dragon Ball: Origins is Dragon Ball DS. I've updated Wikipedia's page to reflect this change.

How far along in DB will they go in the game?

From the looks of it, it will only take place around the first arc which is where the series began and therefore its "Origins".

Nice to see the name change. Looks like I might be buying a DS in the future.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Perhaps further than we previously thought, since it seems Krillin is in it in some form.

Sorry about that, was trying to emphasize the picture itself. Hosted it myself now.
