Daizex seems to be a small but active community, which is the way I like it for a nitch anime/game/etc.
Plus the people who seem to be a little out of line or just plain dumb only post like once or twice. They get the vibe we give them: "Leave..."

Wow, I guess you guys have been pullin' the ol' wool over me eyes eh? I just find it ridiculous that I can get into an argument with somebody about a show that I don't even watch is all.Xyex wrote:You've just been spoiled by Daizex, is all. The "screaming 9 year old" count on here is relatively small (and those that do get in tend to get booted out eventually) compared to the norm... everywhere else. That was actually part of what I was talking about in my first post. Those types are more prevelant in DB fandom than any other I've encountered, this includes Naruto. In fact I've met very few of them in the Naruto fandom. Granted, I'm barely active in that, and I've met my share of them as attested to by the Dattebayo stuff earlier. But by and large I've encountered at least 50 of "them" in DB the fandom for everyone 1 in Naruto. But the thing that sets us apart is that our fanbase in large really isn't the screaming 9 year olds, where as with Naruto the horrible generalization of fans really is how most of the fans are. Maybe I'm just spoiled here at the forum and I've been around a terrific group of fans for so long that I forgot how it actually is

I wan't talking about arguing with him (Which I'm not) I was talking about arguing with Naruto fans.Forgotten Hero wrote:I don't think he is starting an argument. He is kinda just telling like it is.
By the way, I'm totally spoiled by Daizenshuu EX. I spend so much time here.

With Naruto, it also has to do with how some guys were introduced to it. No one complains about Kenshin's catchphrase, but most were introduced to Kenshin through the tv series which kept his catchphrase in both dub and sub, while Naruto fans were introduced through fansubs that didn't.Raki wrote:Then the Narutards complained to no end because that meaningless phrase was taken out. Leave it up to people who get near PERFECT releases for their franchise to complain about small shit like that. I think that most of the people who complained about never even watched the Naruto dub. Narutards are scum in my eyes, they have no clue what it's like to have substandard English releases for their franchise across the board.Onikage725 wrote:I believe I added "to us."
It's called "lost in translation." In the case of dattebayo, it isn't a vocab word with a direct meaning. But it conveys something about the attitude and personality of the character saying it (to the Japanese). To us it means absolutely nothing whatsoever and doesn't convey squat. That's why they went ith "believe it" in an attempt to give him something annoying to attach to his sentences to convey the same attitude.

I'm not trying to be snarky. I just think that something like what they did do with "believe it," or what they currently do with leaving the untranslatable phrase out entirely works better than saying that phrase as-is. Keep in mind that he doesn't just say dattebayo. He also attaches -ttebayo to the end of sentences.NeptuneKai wrote:Let me just state for the record once more I couldn't care less what Naruto says and the show has one of the best dubs I've ever seen. All I'm saying is if it isn't a real word and it is just up to the way he says it in the Japanese version couldn't it merely be up to the dub voice actor to convey the emotion in her voice when Naruto says the phrase? She could easily bring a false word like dattebayo to life in English and have it take the same cocky child like attitude with nothing but the infliction in her voice. Believe it works too all I'm saying is they could have left the phrase alone if they wanted to and I think it could have been pulled off equally as well. I don't even really watch Naruto all too much (in fact truth be told I really dislike the franchise as a whole) so hopefully no snarky comments were ignorantly directed towards me in this topic thus far.
"I'm going to be the next Hokage, believe it!" works much better in english than "I'm going to be the next Hokage-ttebayo!" It would sound really, really, really retarded.
@Super Sonic- that's a good point. My little brothers are into the show through the dub, and they are actually put off by Japanese equivolent phrases (ex- they prefer Shikamaru saying things are such a drag as opposed to saying they're bothersome).
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

Exactly, they complain about the no swearing bullshit in the dub, I suppose they only have seen the Cartoon Network version and never bought the DVD's, and just download fansubs, here's an example that the uncut keeps everything in, dialouge, blood, swearing, etc.:Raki wrote:Then the Narutards complained to no end because that meaningless phrase was taken out. I read pretty much the first message, didn't even bother to read the second, and scrolled all over the posts, I just had to say this. Those messages made me remember the Juggernaut from the famous "Juggernaut Bitch". Example: "You can't hurt me, are you a fucking ass? I'm the Juggernaut bitch!" and another: "Don't you know who the fuck I am? I'm the motherfucking Juggernaut, bitch!"
