My god... I don't know how much more of this incessant, childish whining I can take...
"This movie IS terrible because I said so," "Fox is ruining my fandom," Goku's hair is suddenly TOO much like the manga, "wah wah wah Piccolo," "I'm offended as a human being..."
What? This shit over a movie?
What's going on here? Why, so many long months after we started getting information and pictures, is nobody STILL capable of realizing this is NOT the exact same thing as the manga and anime? The looks and details of some things ARE gonna get changed as the creators see fit, to make it look and work better as a live-action movie. THAT'S why Bulma doesn't have all-blue hair. THAT'S why Oolong and Puar aren't in it. THAT'S why Roshi doesn't have a beard bigger than his torso. THAT'S why Goku doesn't have 2-foot tall hair. And apparently, the creators have seen fit to adapt Piccolo's look a little differently than we expected.
It's different. Not "bad," just
different. I've been keeping an open mind ever since the very day this movie was announced. I realized and expected some things to be different from the beginning, and adopted the mindset that I'd be okay with that, if it made it a better movie overall. So far,
I'm being proven
right.
I look at these promotional pics and these new screencaps, and what do I see? I see a well-made, ingenious martial arts, fantasy epic featuring live-action versions of my favorite characters. I see Goku gazing in wonder at a DragonBall in his hand. I see Goku (
with great hair) training with Roshi. I see Goku getting angry and preparing to face off against one of the most badass incarnations of Piccolo Daimao I've ever seen. I see a group of monks sealing Piccolo into a jar. I see a solar eclipse that we know is going to heavily factor into the story somehow.
But some of you? All you can see is, "Waaah, Piccolo's not green. This movie is terrible."
Honestly... what? I can hardly believe what I'm reading here, and it's becoming sickening. You're all completely ignoring anything good or impressive-looking this movie has to offer, in favor of focusing on the bits you don't like, which are things that should have been expected from the getgo.
Would Piccolo being completely green with slug-like antennae work any better or look any less ridiculous than Bulma having blue hair? I don't really know one way or another. But apparently, the creators have some reason to change him like this, so I trust them. He still looks really good, Piccolo-like, and we know James Marsters is gonna deliver the performance of his life playing it. So I can deal with him being a paler, more yellowed shade of green.
But some of you people are acting as if a group of FOX executives came to your house and raped your entire family. For god's sake, no. They're just adapting your favorite cartoon into a movie, and they happened to make a few inevitable changes that YOU didn't like. It's not going to affect your fandom or the franchise or the original manga AT ALL. So grow up and deal with it.
On the plus side, thanks to the complete and utter lack of any trace of it in the trailer screencaps, I don't see anyone pissing and moaning about the school anymore.
