Let's be realistic here...The common fan considers Saiyaman to be a huge...dork.

That's because he is a huge dork. Even Piccolo thinks so.

I'd like to see Ronald McDonald on the final cover.

It would only be half as lame as Saiyaman.

C'mon. Its Piccolo. I'm happy.

They should have just stuck with Majin Vegeta! I thought that was a perfect cover! But no!
Gohan: "You're a Buddhist." Kuririn: "A hungry Buddhist!"

Yes, Gohan is being a dork when he dons the Saiyaman costume. This is what makes the whole thing so amazingly great. It's hilarious, and it's charming. The whole thing is hilarious, and that's why it's great. Dragonball as a whole tends to be about fun and adventure. Honestly, Saiyaman fits Dragonball's overall spirit more than any superawesome ohshit muscles n' veins Super Saiyan.

The early days of DragonBall yes...But not Piccolo Daimao and on. Which come on, we all know that with the "Saiyaman Saga" stuff Toriyama was trying to go back to his roots for a while. Yes the later stuff still had some comedy. But when you think DBZ, you don't think funny poses and comedy. You think action.

Don't presume to know what I think.

Saiyan arc: King Kai and his training was one big joke. The whole afterlife was a big joke. We had a lot of funny stuff with Gohan and his training.

Namek/Frieza: Ginyu was hilarious, with his poses and everything. Switching with a frog? That was a joke. There was plenty of funny stuff in there.

Android/Cell: We had Mr. Satan. We had the way the Androids acted in some parts, which I found to be funny. There was a lot of light-hearted stuff to the Goku/Gohan training.

Buu: This whole thing was pretty funny. Lots of Mr. Satan. Buu turns people into candy. Buu was a funny character overall. Even Babidi had his bits of fun jokes. Goten and Trunks were funny. Gotenks attacks included the Super Ghost Kamikaze, the doughnut attack, and that whole fight was full of fun little attacks. The elder Kai's whole story was funny. Lots of fushion jokes with the Grand Kai.

I'm only referring to the bigger jokes overall, but it's ridiculous to say that Z ever once slacked on humor.

Certainly you're not claiming Z to be as humorous as DB. All I'm saying is that DragonBall was a comedic adventure series. While Z was much more focused on the fighting with the humor much more to the side as opposed to DB up to the 22'nd Budokai.

What I mean about the Saiyaman Saga is that Toriyama went back to his older style...Little kids humorously shocking the established fighters and some wacky comedy.

Which is precisely why it's awesome. Yes, I understand the focus SHIFTED slightly. It went from a gag manga with plenty of action to an action manga with plenty of gags.

I am saying that I think of the humor and character development when I think of DBZ. Sure, there is a more centralized action focus, but the humor is there.

And I really like the Saiyaman saga, it has to be one of my favorites in all of Z. If the rest of the manga had continued in this vein, I could have quite possibly thought of the Buu saga as the best in the whole series.

Then we're in agreement. All I was trying to say was the common fan would be more attracted to an action shot of Piccolo then a silly Saiyaman pose.

Which I disagree with.

I think the average fan would prefer Saiayaman on the Saiyaman arc box over having Piccolo from the Saiyan Saga on the Saiyaman arc box.

When I say common fan I mean those 9 year olds that are born every day. They want FIGHTING AND ACTION...The common fan won't even think about the fact that it's a Saiyan Saga shot.

He was more relevant than Freeza Arc Goku on Season Six. Then again, so is Piccolo here.

Honestly I think the only reason this chaps the asses of most people here is because they did have someone from the Babidi / Majin Arcs but changed it to a shot of Piccolo from Season One.

It just makes no sense whatsoever. Though perhaps the Majin Vegeta one was fake and FUNi always planned this retardation.

I mean it's not like it's hard to think of characters to put on these covers. For corn's sake, their previous boxsets were almost all named after particular characters.

Also, it'd be different if they didn't establish some trend of relevance early on. Vegeta on Season One. Goku on Two. Freeza on Three. Trunks on Four. Cell on Five. They were all relevant. It's like they changed their mind about using relevant art in the middle of a release series that's supposed to be consistent.

If they wanted to have random heroes on each set, they should have done so from the beginning. If they wanted to have characters relevant to the set on the cover, they should just look at their saga titles from the set and pick a character whose name they see from each one.

God, I'm starting to ramble on.

This. I agree if they wanted to do random cover art, they should have done it from the start. But Funi knows these sets sell, so they don't have to follow any sort of logic.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Come to think of it, maybe they meant to put Paikuhan on the cover and got mixed up.
