While I respect that your opinion toward these sets is positive, I think that you may be mistaking Corey's "hatred" for a simple statement of conflicting opinion.

Why do people keep doing this to him?

I doubt very much that he's out to put down the season sets every chance he gets, or at least in the manner which you seem to imply. It's indeed true that he has no love for them, and is in fact most outspoken against them, but to speak of things as though he's got an itchy trigger finger would suggest that he has A) lost faith in FUNimation's ability to put out a decent DragonBall product and B) is as a result against the very notion of them doing so and/or somehow wants them to fail with every attempt as penance for the orange bricks. Perhaps he has indeed lost faith-- many of us have-- but for B) to be true as well would require an incredibly narrow-minded attitude, which doesn't much fit into any description I could compose for Corey.

He's free to correct me on any of this should I be wrong, but I think that Corey would like to see a proper release as any one of us. Lord knows that FUNimation is capable, given their treatment of other shows.

If the picture itself were something to be pleased with, in his opinion, then it's rather conceivable to me that he'd compliment the colors or contrast despite the cropping (albeit probably in a way that stresses how said cropping makes the sets a predominantly negative thing irrespective of how good the picture looks).

But then, I talk too much. And I apologize for it. I just get so tired of people misinterpreting the man. And if you're looking for him to give "credit" to FUNimation where the season sets are concerned . . . well, I wouldn't hold my breath.

MagicBox- I already posted this on the FUNi Forums, but will simply copy/paste my entire post since there was other stuff I said.

Odd thing is, in the Booklet they still list Ceyli Delgadillo as Dende. However it's clearly Laura Bailey. So yes, she did Re-Dub Dende.

As for Goku...Er...Which flashback was this again? Tell me the Episode so I can go and re-check.

Also...Just found a new line addition...There are some Episodes that I know much better than others. So the early Cell Games stuff I probably wouldn't notice...But I don't think the following was in the Original Dub...

At the beginning of Episode 189, English title "Cell Returns"...There's this super awesome new line added that makes me wet my pants in fanboy glee...NOT!!!

Vegeta: What do you want from us Cell?

Cell: Nothing, I have everything I need now.

I'm pretty sure that wasn't in the original Dub...But just wow..."What do you want from us"?...What's Vegeta expecting Cell to say? "Oh a few cupcakes and some Orange Soda."?

IN ADDITION...These are not added lines but rather added battle noises...In the Episode Free The Future, when Trunks kills 18...It went like this...

Original Dub: THIS IS FOR GOHAN!!! Ung (Quick Ki Blast Grunt)

Season Set: THIS IS FOR GOHAN!!! YAAAAAAAHHHH (Long Scream)

I actually like this change personally. Sounds like Trunks is relieving the anger he's felt for those 2 Decades towards them.

Also, when Trunks kills 17, you here 17 gives like a scream of pain as he dies.
Gozar (or anybody else who has the set), could you please put the season 7 trailer up on YouTube or something? I'd really like to see it and get an idea for what they are going to advertaise most in that season.
It's already on YT:

Come now...Let's be fair...The Season Sets in these scenes look pretty close to the DBOX color wise. Which is what he was putting down. I really don't see how he can use the word "Horrible".

Actually, this exchange was part of the original dub. I don't have the set yet, but the corresponding singles retain that same dialogue.

All a matter of opinion, a'course. I respect both of yours. The unfortunate truth of it is that the only way we're ever going to settle the "ZOMG LOOKS JUST LIEK DRAGONBOX/HELL NO LOOKS LIEK DRAGONSHIT" argument to everyone's satisfaction is for two people with differing opinions to get into a room together and see the two releases in motion, side-by-side and in real time, because making comparisons via Internet-posted screenshots is just so . . . unreliable if you don't have physical access to both releases. It's when you see video in motion that you know what it really looks like.

Blargh.

Really? You positive? My god how could I have not remembered that?

Edit: I just pulled out my old single...You're right.

Plus, I don't even think Dameon Clarke is at FUNimation anymore (which is why he's replaced as Cell for video games and why a different actor had to fill in for him as George in Detective Conan movie 2), so he's probably not re-recording dialogue for them.
Gozar wrote:As for Goku...Er...Which flashback was this again? Tell me the Episode so I can go and re-check.
It's in the episode right after Gohan kills Cell. At the end of the episode, after Goku tells the gang that he's going to stay dead, Kuririn, Tenshinhan, Yamcha, Piccolo, and Gohan take a little bit to remember Goku's life. In these flashbacks, I believe Ceyli Delgadillo voiced Goku.

Actually, I'm pretty sure all this new dialogue was recorded when they originally Dubbed the series and hey ultimately decided not to add that dialogue in. I say this because in Season 5 when I heard Sonny's Kuririn, it sounded just like he did it in the Cell Era as opposed to the more laid back way he's done it in recent years.

OK, all of the dialogue was actually removed. I guess they didn't get Ms. Nadolny to Re-Dub and just removed it all. But it's not just with Chibi Goku. In the flashback they removed ALL of the dialogue by the flashbacks. The characters monologuing in the present is still there during the flashback though. Such as Piccolo's "Goku has and always will be Goku". But the actual characters in the flashbacks are not speaking.

Daemeon Clarke is listed in the character reference as voicing Tambourine for the English Sparking METEOR while Cell was listed as being voiced by Dartarian Nickelback but in the back of the intruction booklet Clarke is still listed as Cell but not this extra character, Tambourine. Additionally, Nickelback is not listed in the booklet.

Oh, well, all that's for the best anyway, since Goku wasn't the only one that sounded wrong in the flashbacks. Oolong sounded off too. I don't even think it was Brad Jackson.

No, you're quite right. Hell, I love what FUNi's done with some other shows. I also love that they made an agreement with Geneon to distribute their properties, since there are a number of great shows that I'd hate to see disappear. It's just sad to me that they can't apply the same effort to the show that made them viable in the marketplace to begin with.
If the picture itself were something to be pleased with, in his opinion, then it's rather conceivable to me that he'd compliment the colors or contrast despite the cropping (albeit probably in a way that stresses how said cropping makes the sets a predominantly negative thing irrespective of how good the picture looks).
Eh, I'll mention it, but I won't stress it. Everyone understands that the show wasn't created for 16:9, repeating it ad nauseum serves little purpose.
And if you're looking for him to give "credit" to FUNimation where the season sets are concerned . . . well, I wouldn't hold my breath.
Corey, a few posts back, wrote: They have also toned down the DVNR which I give them credit for.
I won't be throwing parades for their efforts, but I'll make some note of things I see that they've improved.
Gozar wrote:Come now...Let's be fair...The Season Sets in these scenes look pretty close to the DBOX color wise. Which is what he was putting down. I really don't see how he can use the word "Horrible".
Seriously, I don't see it. Sure, Gohan's not a black man (that's a joke, btw), but the colors aren't really close at all. Part of it I genuinely attribute to a shitty film master (since colors do tend to darken as film ages under poor conditions, which is Toei's fault), and part of it I attribute to FUNi messing with the saturation to some degree.

Examples? Gohan's Kamehameha looks like a light bluish-green in the original FujiTV/DragonBox versions. FUNi has it as a flat blue, sort of like the sky color-change in the Season 1 set. Then Gohan's eyes go from a lighter green to a dark forest green...I could keep going, but I'm sure I'd just get crucified for pointing things out. Sad thing is, loading the two images up in Photoshop, you can make them look somewhat similar with just a quick Gamma correction.

In any case, I appreciate Lemmy being a cool dude like always. People can have differing opinions in fan communities after all, and I'm glad some people can see that. That being said, if anyone were ever in Northern VA I'd be happy to demo the DragonBoxes (just keep in mind that I do have an AR-15 if anyone were to try and get cute...again, joke :P)

Heh, it's ironic! First these sets were too bright, and now they're too dark!

It would seem that they used the same process as the Double Features, which were also considered a bit dark. Although since those had tons of details left in due to the lack of DVNR, I am ecstatic to see how well everything will look on a TV in motion with the sets!

Either way it still looks close to me, and the lack of DVNR just really makes things fantastic in my eyes. The Double Features and this set (and the ones to come) are the closest thing to a Dragon Box we have had yet!

I don't know if I've said this yet but I also love how these sets look, sure they aren't the Dragonbox but compared to Season 2 they're godly.

Completely agreed! I'm also fairly confident that if there were no Dragon Boxes, people would be praising this set as the best the show has ever looked.

You know what's even weirder? Back when the HoT/Bardock double feature came out, I tried to imagine what some of the Cell Games episodes would look like in the unlikelihood that Funi gave it the same process as the Double features. Now, I might truly know what it will look like. :D

You think this looks worse than VHS? I'm guessing you also think the Double Features look better on VHS as well?

I see what you're talking Kamehameha Wise. But is that really worthy of the word "Horrible"? The skin tones seem nice and the Kamehameha color is slightly off. Horrible is way too harsh of a word.
