I'll buy at least one of them someday; when I have the money... I have one of those DVD players that can trick me into thinking its fullscreen, so hey - it won't bug me as much.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Nevermind, I got my dubs confused. Funimation is helping release the Spanish dub for Mexico, not the Spanish dub for Spain (which is the Castilian Spanish dub to be exact) and Spain is the one getting Dragonbox footage.

My bad.

I'm buying the Season Sets becuase of the 3 audio tracks (ENG w/ JPN music, original JPN audio, & ENG w/ ENG music).

Other than that, I don't have to justify my reasons to anyone. I buy what I want. That's what a fan does.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

English with Japanese music did it for me! That's the reason I'm also picking up the Dragonball GT Seasons regardless of cropping.

I'll be getting the DBGT season sets because they will finally be cheap enough for me to find an excuse to buy DBGT.

Agreed, English cast with Japanese BGM was the best thing that Funimation ever did.

DBZ sounds so awkward to me in that track. Its something that I'm probably not going to get used to very quickly so I just watch it with original Japanese track or Eng w/ Eng music.
Gohan: At least he doesn't have his sword out anymore.
Kuririn: Yeah, and your dad put his finger away too.

Not so fast.

While yeah, they did include the Japanese track, they still opted NOT to redo some of the god awful script changes left in. Season 3 was when FUNi got lazy with the sets and just re-recorded the narrator, Vegeta and Krillin. Frieza had the effect taken out of one of his transformation's voice, but that was about it.

We're left hearing the same obnoxious 1999 Sean Schemmel Goku, the same football playing Piccolo ("YES YES YES, I FEEL GREAT"), Gohan sounds as raspy as ever, Frieza's still spouting out some of the most awkward dialogue out there.

When Season 4 came along, not even Vegeta was redubbed. Season 3 had Chris Sabat's recent voice for Vegeta, while Season 4 has him sounding like he's still trying to imitate Brian Drummond while breaking away from it.

It's really awkward hearing a tense situation, with serious sounding background music...and then hear Frieza shoot off one of his really stupid one liners.

The background music would be fine if ONLY they had just opted to redub embarrassing portions as well. Would have been nice to fix some dub errors as well, such as "General Tao." Dragon Ball was dubbed already. There's no excuse to not go over and fix mistakes like that.

Didn't Sean Schemmel decide not to come back to record Goku because he was "happy with the work he had done?" It's not like FUNi can force him to come back. Since Schemmel didn't return, that means that about 70% of Freeza's lines are stuck as they are as well. It all sets off a chain reaction. Piccolo and Gohan's lines I agree with.

But for the movies, which actually have dubs ranging from tolerable to frikkin amazing, the original music is a great addition.

Think it may have had something to do with the fact that he's in New York, working mostly for 4Kids.

I would have said fuck him...and got Ian to do Goku again.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Yeah, why try to convince a guy who just doesn't want to travel from New York to Texas when they could try to convince a guy who hated the role and wouldn't want to come back period? :P

It's really a shame, since Schemmel's more recent, well-scripted Goku voicework has been amazing, like in Burst Limit. If he and Linda Young were to redub the Freeza saga with a good script,, it'd be 1000 times better.

Hmm, I seem to have forgotten that. Isn't there another VA who did Goku?

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I say we get the Goku who did the "big green" dub of movie 3.

Where did you get that Ian hated the role? He stated in an interview that he had requested a pay raise and was denied, so he left the production. He came back way later for the latter Ocean dub (the "UK" dub), wherein I believe he played their version of the Pink Hat Guy (eat it, Jon Allen).

Yeah, Ian only left because the pay wasn't working for him.
