About the Dragonball Universe...Literally
Hey there,
I'm going to start a DB web comic hopefully sometime next month. I thought while I'm busy drawing few comic pages and commissions for the next few weeks, I would like to take some time to get my facts striaght about the Dragonball Universe (Outer Space) before I start the fancomic in October. Please bear with me here, I haven't watched an episode of Dragoball (anything) for few years. All I have is what my friends call "an excellent memory for all things animated" but I'm not an elephant, I do forget things.
Here are my questions:
1. How long did it take Bulma, Kirllin, and Gohan to reach planet Namek?
2. How long did it take Mr. Brief (or was it Bulma?) to build a space ship for Goku? How long did it take him to reach Namek?
3. Was Dr. Brief space ship capsule compatible? (Could you just push a button and suddenly it would change into a capsule?)
4. What was space like during DBZ? I know that Freeza and the Cold family were rulers or tyrants of some sort (maybe someone can expand on this for me.) Was the Cold family rulers of the Universe or just like half it?
5. I remember Freeza's "soldiers/army" destroyed inhabitants on certain planets then sell them. But to who? Was this ever mentioned?
The questions below are about GT, now I know I mentioned that I haven't watched DB/Z in long time but I can hardly remember GT. I skipped a lot of episodes, especially the ones about space (the GT eps were heart wrenchingly bad I seemed to have blocked it of memory).
6. What was like outer space in GT? Aliens, technology, Space ships, etc. (feel free to tell me the title or numbers to any episode that might help your answer)
7. Did Goku, Trunks, and Pan use the old space ship during the Z saga to travel, or was new one built for them? How fast did that go? Was the speed even mentioned?
8. I remember in one episode Goku, Trunks, and Pan where outlaws, (If I'm wrong about this tell me) Why? What did they do or didn't do?
Thanks in advance, I will probably ask more questions in the future till the comic is complete.

Re: About the Dragonball Universe...Literally
It took them 33 days to get to Namek. The narrator says its been 34 days since they left Earth, but remember the landed on fake Namek, so take about a day off. It's not stated when Dr. Briefs started working on the ship, but my guess is that it took him about a month and like a week. It took 6 days to reach to planet Namek. I don't think his ship was compatible, but who knows. Most of the universe was known and ruled by Freeza. It's kind of a tricky question about who it was sold to, since all the invaders can do is killed them and the planet is theirs. It probably was bought so Freeza can own it or something to those lines.Scarz wrote:Here are my questions:

As for GT, they used a different ship to set out. It's not mention how fast it goes or the speed, but it's pretty fast since the managed to find the dragonballs and battle enemies before the Earth could explode in one year. In episode 5, they were outlaws because they got accused of stealing (their own) ship in planet Immecka. The ruler of that planet wanted everyone to stay in that planet and he didn't know Goku, Pan and Trunks were from another planet, but he still wouldn't of cared, but they straightened things out in they planet before the left.
I hope that answers your questions.
In the Dragon Ball universe, the galaxy that Earth exists in is split up into 4 quadrants. Earth is in the North quadrant I think, because the Kaio-sama that trained Goku was the Kai of the North. There are 5 Kai's per galaxy; north, south, east, west and the Grand Kai watching over them all.
Above them were the Supreme Kais (or Kaioshin), who looked after the universe on a larger scale. I think there were different Kaioshin for different galaxies, or maybe even larger (4 quadrants of the known universe?), the one that appeared in the Buu saga was the Eastern Kaioshin.
I don't think it's ever stated how large Freeza's empire was. It may have only been in our galaxy, although they often did call him the strongest in the universe, so we don't know really.
The ship Goku used never turned into a capsule form, nor did any of the other large ships such as the identical one Vegeta took and the one used in GT. Seeing as the size of the capsule does seem to matter (Trunks' time machine's capsule was twice the size of a normal capsule) it may just be that they were too big or complicated to be compacted easily...even though whole houses and large buses have been capsulised before.

The appellation of "strongest" should be taken with a huge grain of salt. Freeza was the Big Bad in his story arc, but if I'm not mistaken, Majin Buu was around (just dormant on earth), so technically he wasn't the strongest. When characters describe someone as "strong" or "weak," they're working with limited information. Even Kaioshin was mistaken on that point (Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan were FAR stronger than he realized), and if anyone would be in the business to know, it'd be him.I don't think it's ever stated how large Freeza's empire was. It may have only been in our galaxy, although they often did call him the strongest in the universe, so we don't know really.
I'm pretty sure he wasn't even close to being ruler of the entire universe. Perhaps it was just filler, but wasn't there an episode where Majin Buu went to the afterlife looking for Goku and Vegeta, and he wasn't recognized by most of the kaios and the dead people he encountered there? If Majin Buu, a danger on a universal scale, wasn't recognized, how much less would someone of Freeza's far inferior strength?4. What was space like during DBZ? I know that Freeza and the Cold family were rulers or tyrants of some sort (maybe someone can expand on this for me.) Was the Cold family rulers of the Universe or just like half it?
The highest numbered planet under his rule I heard of was #79. It's possible he had a lot more than that, but even hundreds of planets is a tiny fraction of the complement of the universe (at least in ours; the DBZ universe might be far smaller).

That's not right. There are four galaxies, which have no smaller subdivisions. Each galaxy is overseen by a Kaio, and those 4 Kaio are under the authority of the Dai-Kaio, for a total of 5 Kaio for the entire universe/living world. Above them are the Kaioshin, who are structured the same way, one Kaioshin to each galaxy, and a Dai-Kaioshin to oversee them all, making a total of 5. While the Kaio oversee only the universe/living world, the Kaioshin oversee both the universe and the afterlife.Bussani wrote:In the Dragon Ball universe, the galaxy that Earth exists in is split up into 4 quadrants. DragonBall Landmark says they ruled about 100 planets, which makes sense since Planet Freeza No.79 was implied to be a fairly recent conquest (Vegeta: "He's already grown tired of this world", or something like that).I don't think it's ever stated how large Freeza's empire was. This doesn't really say anything about the size of his empire, though.Herms wrote:DragonBall Landmark says they ruled about 100 planets, which makes sense since Planet Freeza No.79 was implied to be a fairly recent conquest (Vegeta: "He's already grown tired of this world", or something like that).
First, space is really freaking big, with a lot of empty areas. Sure, he may 'only' own 100 planets, but if there's only 300 habitable planets in the galaxy total; or if those 100 are spread over half the galaxy...
Second, he might only own 100 personally, but have lots of vassals or puppet states bowing to him, like the Soviet Union didn't really own East Germany.
Cold is the ruler of the changeling race? That implies that there are more of them out there, and that they were all as evil as Cold. But if Cold stayed in the shadows to help Freeza, where does that leave the rest of his race? Do they also secretly serve Freeza? Or are they killed off?
It's all GOOD
Just because of the leader being evil, it doesn't mean that the people are.Terra-jin wrote:Cold is the ruler of the changeling race? That implies that there are more of them out there, and that they were all as evil as Cold.
Like, Hitler was evil, but that doesn't mean that the German people were.
Most of them didn't know that the concentration camps existed, and the countries that were overtaken were so with force and controlled by fear.
Something tells me that King Cold wasn't democratically elected...
No more time for Daizex. Goodbye folks!

What page is that supposed to be on? I think you might be thinking of Cold's character dictionary bio, which says that he is the "head of the strongest family in the universe", but it doesn't mention anything about Freeza's race, and doesn't say anything about only Freeza running the organization.Stargazer wrote:According to the Daizenshuu 7, Cold is only the ruler of his race, but the Interstellar Empire is ruled by Freeza only.

True. But what I missed to tell is that Freeza and King Cold doesn't seem like "speechers". Hitler spell-bound the Germans with his speeches.Rocketman wrote:Hitler was.Wojak wrote:Something tells me that King Cold wasn't democratically elected...
I have a hard time imagining King Cold or Freeza holding a speech, and if they did, it would probably be like "I'm the ruler. Shut up or die!".

Thanks everyone! Your answers were extremely helpfully, I had to make a print out of the answers just in case I need to come back them. I have a few more questions: Okay, I know if I actually watched GT again, most of my questions will be answered but I'm just trying to hold out until then.
9. What the hell happened to Giru? Maybe this question is too broad. I simply want to know if he was present during the last episode with the rest of the cast or was he long gone before then?
10. Even though there was no mention of Universal Authority in DBZ or GT (ie like the Space Galaxy Police from the Tenchi series) correct me if I'm wrong, would it be too far fetched for me to included one in a fan manga?
11. This one is about Technology: Was Capsule Corp technology more advance then some of the known alien technology during the series? For one human (Dr. Brief) to build a space ship in little then two months is pretty impressive, not to mention the ability to turn large house and cars into capsules.
12. Whether its Bulma or her Dad, Dr. Brief, they were always building nifty, fun, and unbelievable gadgets. Sometimes pulling the old deus ex machina bit. Did Bra and Trunks inherit Bulma's genius mind? (I'm aware that Trunks became the president of CC but you can never be certainof ones intellect)
13. According to Dragonball.wikia.com "...neither Goten nor Trunks were shown to have tails. It is possible for them to have them since Gohan had a tail when he was born. When Akira Toriyama was asked about this in an interview he replied, 'Tails must be a recessive trait'..." For a moment, lets forget that website fail to site their sources or the fact that Toriyama statement is genetically impossible (I beg to differ, but I'm not a scientist nor do I watch DB for realism) does this mean that further along the line the new generation of Saiyans will gradually become weaker? I know that Goku and Vegeta Jr. are super saiyans but I like to believe they are because of fate and rest of the saiyan faimly tree is genetically fucked. All that human breeding can't be good.
This is completely unrelated question but I've also pulled this off draonball.wikia: ( [Trunks] often seen trying to escape from the drudgery of the office only to be dragged back by Vegeta) Huh? What episode did this happen?

Daizenshuu 7 does say there's a galactic police force, but that they weren't powerful enough to do anything against the Saiyans or Freeza.Scarz wrote:10. When Brief is look at the Namekkain space ship, he says something like "they're bigger geniueses than me at there", so some of it's more advanced. But Bulma was able to understand how the scouter worked pretty easily, and was able to recreate the armor Freeza's henchmen wore, so not all of it is beyond Earthling ability.11. At one point in GT, Trunks disables the computer system for Baby's life support in his big test tube thing, but makes a comment along the lines of "I was able to do that, even with my level of skill", so I guess he's techno-savvy, but he's no genius.Scarz wrote:

Did this “galactic police force” have a name and does Daizenshuu 7 explain what happened to them? For instance, did Freeza wipe them all out or did they attempt to remain out of his line of sight out of fear?Herms wrote:Daizenshuu 7 does say there's a galactic police force, but that they weren't powerful enough to do anything against the Saiyans or Freeza.
This is seen in a very early episode of Dragonball GT, as they were preparing to retrieve the Ultimate Dragon Balls. Trunks were shown before this that he had the habit of neglecting his work as Capsule Corp’s president and he would frequently escape from an upper floor window. On the last occasion, that he tried to do this Vegeta is waiting outside of the window. In the next scene, you see Vegeta dragging Trunks and Son Goten by the backs of their shirts and saying something to the effect that they are going on the trip into space because they need the experience.Scarz wrote:This is completely unrelated question but I've also pulled this off draonball.wikia: ( [Trunks] often seen trying to escape from the drudgery of the office only to be dragged back by Vegeta) Huh? The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.
