Neko Majin, NMZ and The New Anime Special's Continuities

Post by Dayspring » Tue Sep 09, 2008 5:46 pm

So after re-reading the Neko Majin graphic novel, I'm seriously starting to think that it shares the same continuity as the regular Dragonball universe -provided certain things come true in the new anime special, that is.

Here's why: we know there to be an alien that resembles DBO's version of a Yardrat. In Neko Majin 2 and again in Neko Majin Z 2, the same alien is seen. Meanwhile, Vegeta still works for Freeza despite the story taking place well after the 28th budokai (possibly shortly after the 29th or 30th, as Thunderbolt is the winner of a major tournament and labeled the strongest man on the planet).

If the new anime special explains that the new villains are cloners, it could explain why we have a young Vegeta look alike in the new special, as well as why Vegeta, a mysteriously new Saiyan, and Freeza are still around in post-28th budokai era; the special is a prequel to the NMZ stories.

To explain why they make gag-manga comments in NMZ, use common senese: the special wasn't intended to be created at the time that NMZ was, and characters are always aware they're in a manga when it's a gag-manga (just like the Dr. Slump characters did in Dragonball).

Well...we'll see, I guess. Seems like a stretch though.

There's also that early bit with Pilaf where he refers to DragonBall as a manga and talks about the author wanting to keep things high-brow.

It's a stretch to say the least. I hope you're right though Mr. Dayspring. 8)
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

I think its amusing that Pilaf, Mai, and Shuu seem to be the only ones in the entire series who know they're characters in a manga.

I think Vegeta's head would explode (figuratively, not literally ^^;;; ) if he were to ever discover this fact.
On hiatus.

Or at least venture into space to fight cats in another manga? :P

Since the subject of Neko Majin Z has been broached (somewhat), does anyone, know the name of Lord Onio’s wife?
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

I think Yamchu also knows this but doesn't mention it to anyone because of shame. Remember when Goku punched him really hard (Desert Bandit-Yamchu), he actually hit the above panel, breaking it at the impact.
I think he then noticed that he was in the manga, not giving his full spirit when training, leading to him being the weakest Z-senshu (Chaozu does not count). He gave just enough for Toriyama wanting to keep him around. Nice theory, eh?
No more time for Daizex. Goodbye folks!

I think someone learning that they were, in fact, "not real", would be an intensely traumatic experience, which is why Yamcha didn't tell anyone. He didn't want them to suffer.
To a strong man, the end justifies the means. To a stronger man, the means justify the end.

^ That would actually a pretty interesting idea I'd like to see played out in any series. A couple days ago, I caught the finale episode of Spider-Man, and was surprised that they even went into that territory. Though I shouldn't be surprised, considering that it was the nineties: when alternate realities were part of a good number of cartoons (or at least felt like they were).

More on topic, I think it'd be awesome if they tied the new special to Neko Majin and it eventually led to it having its own series. Though I think the only reason that character designs for the new special resemble Neko Majin characters is because that was one of the more recent stuff he's worked on that was related to DB.
