They don't say outright what the DragonBoxes were mastered in (SD versus HD), however my assumption would be that they did an HD master. Then again, it's pure speculation (all they cover in the books is how in-depth the remaster was with removal of film damage, how it came from the Generation Zero print, etc. if memory serves).

'Could be ready' in the sense of their masters being prepared. I don't know if they've actually done any production work aside from that, though I'm assuming with FUNimation's Blu-ray push that they'll do it eventually. I think at the moment, since Blu-ray is still fairly new (and most who own it are picky about quality, probably to the point where they wouldn't buy cropped DragonBall like myself), they're holding off for greater adoption of the format.

Ah! I see!

Then, even if the Blu-Rey push doesn't work, they won't be hurt?

You are watching OAR. I think you don't understand what OAR means. 2.35:1 will always have widescreen bars. 1.85:1 is the widescreen you might be fond of.
On widescreen televisions that statement is true!

The smartest way to remove the black bars while keeping the OAR and maintaining resolution on 2.35:1 content is to purchase a 1080p projector. Next you'll have to buy an anamorphic/panamorph lens, and after that you'll have to purchase a 2.40:1 screen to project it on! I'm putting a link down so I don't have to quite explain it all, hope this helps.

I'm saving my pennies up!

Or watch it on a 4:3 monitor with a high resolution, and let it play the bars "offscreen."

About the whole disappearing lines issue, I can basically confirm that it's not present here. They already have high quality clips of Gohan's second transformation from Season 6 on YouTube, and there's A LOT of shaking during that scene, and the lines didn't disappear at all.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Could you provide a link to any of these clips? I'm having a hard time finding any.

Also, it seems like Funi's using an older audio mix for Season 6. I've seen Gohan's second transformation a billion times, and his screaming sound slightly different.

Why did they remove 16's voice filter in Season 6? I was hoping they would do that in Season 5, but why do it now?

Maybe they take away the filter once 16's upgrades and repairs are completed in Dr.Brief's lab.

Man, even without the filter, the acting is still horrible.

It was like that on the Funi single, too. As I said before, I've seen that part a billion times and have it on DVD.

You mean he doesn't talk in monotone anymore? I though FUNi made him sound that way because little kids wouldn't understand that he's a robot if he talked like everyone else. Also, am I the only one who though #16's dub voice was just a bad Ahnold impression?

I believe it's severely toned down in Sparking METEOR but in his other roles he does a great job. Boy is Inman a great Patty (One Piece).

After watching those videos, I've come to love the picture quality. I mean, even with YouTube's crappy encoding, it still looks absolutely gorgeous! The aesthetics and everything are just so perfect to me! Also cropping is a no-issue with this release, as our comparisons have shown that there is nearly nothing lost from the singles, and lots has been gained.

I know the DragonBoxes are considered the best by many, but I think this season is just as good, if not better picture wise. Let's hope seasons 7-9 look just as good!
